TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEY NEEDED IN INDIANA ACCORDING TO LOGAN

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 22. Numertus benefits which would accrue to Indiana from a topographic survey are Sited by Dr. W. N. Logan, state geologist, in a pamphlet Just issued entitled, "Topographic Mapping in Indiana." "The necessity for a complete topographic survey of Indiana seems to me Imperative," says Dr. Logan. "Almost every line of Industrial development utilizing the natural resources of the

state are dependent upon the informa

tion contained in a topographic map and where such information is not at hand it must be obtained at great expense and generally to the discouragement of industry." The cost of mapping the entire 6tat Dr. Logan estimates at $966,000. By

co-operating with the United States Geological Survey however, half of the expense of the mapping would be

borne by the federal government. Not Mapped So Far.

Until the present year Indiana has not invested any money in topographic

mapping. In this respect it is far be

hind surrounding states. Dr. Logan cays, as Ohio is completely mapped and other states have large areas

mapped.

The features shown by the topo

graphic maps are the location of the

boundaries of sections, townships, counties and states, the location of

towns and cities, of wagon roads and

railroads, churches, school houses.

mines and quarries, bridges, streams, lakes, ponds and marshes. The map also distinguishes level lands from rough lands and bottom lands from

highlands. It shows by means of contour lines the elevation of the land area above sea level and above and below neighboring lands. Because of the specific information such a survey would give concerning

the vast deposits of coal, clays, kaolin, sands and gravels it would be particulsrly beneficial to the state Dr. Logan believes. He also emphazes that it would contribute to the economic development of the state by discovering dormant water power sources, giving information which would encourage exploitation of gas and oil fields and by stimulating forestry interests.

How to Have Pretty Natural Looking Curls

Straight, lank hair is becoming to but few women and there's no excuse now for anyone looking homely and unkempt on that account. Those who have foresworn the curling iron because of the damage it does by drying and breaking the hair, will be glad to hear that the simple silmerine method will produce a far better and prettier effect, without any injurious result whatever. If just a small quantity be applied with a clean tooth brush before doing up the hair, the loveliest natural looking curls and waves will be in evidence in three hours, and there will be nothing streaky, sticky or greasy about it. A few ounces of liquid silmerine, obtainable at any drug store, will prove a welcome addition to many a dressing table. It is best applied by dividing the hair into strands and moistening each of them separately from root to tip. The beautiful wavy effect will last for a considerable time. Ad-

eeping Fit

BY DR. SAMUEL HAMILTON.

It is because of the war that the perfect physical man has all

at once become the idol of the world. You can make of yourself, even rather late in life, almost anything you like. Y.6u are not going to get fit in one day, one month, or, perhaps, a year, unless you take enough outdoor exercise to keep the circulation going and practise the athlete's first principle to keep tho system clean. jHe does not give his body a chance to absorb poisons. He not only takes his cold shower, after exercise, but he knows a cleansing of the intestines is important, and he takes occasionally a good regulator and liver cleanser, such as a dose of castor oil, or, what is much better, a tiny pill made up of May-apple, aloin and jalap, and sold by almost all druggists in the land as Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets. Keep the kidneys in good order also.

Avoid too much meat, alcohol or tea. Drink plenty of pure water, preferably hot water, before meals, and drive the uric acid out of the system by taking "Anuric" (anti-uric-acid). This can be obtained at almost any drug store. Send a bottle of water to the chemist at Dr. Pierce's Invalids' Hotel, Buffalo, N. Y., and you will receive free medical advice as to whether the kidneys are affected. When your kidneys get sluggish and clog, you suffer from backache, sick-headaches, dizzy spells, or twinges and pains of lumbago, rheumatism or gout; or sleep is disturbed two or three times a night. Take heed, before too late! Get Anuric (anti-uric-acid), for it will put new life into your kidneys and your entire system. Ask your nearest druggist for it or send Dr. Pierce ten cents for trial package of "Anuric."
