DARKE COUNTY MAN COMPLETES TICKET; IS FOR JUDGESHIP
COLUMBUS, Ohio. Sept. 17. The Democratic state central committee Thursday chose Judge George W. Manix, Jr., of Darke County, now holding a Common Pleas judgeship, to be candidate for associate justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, to succeed Judge Kent "W. Hughes, of Lima, who resigned. Judge Mannix was appointed by Governor James M. Cox, in 1919, to take the place of the late Judge" David W. Bowman, of Greenville. His selection was made unanimous after votes had been cast for Judge William H. Spence of Lisbon, who also was placed in nomination. The tally of votes was not given. Previously Judge Mannix was Indorsed by the Democratic Executive committee of Darke county, so that the choice is a harmony one. In August he was a candidate for the Democratic nomination In the Fourth congressional district, losing out to congressman Ben F. Welty, of Lima. Ballot is Now Ready. When this action had been complete ed the ballot was ready for certification to the county election officials by the Secretary of State. It will contain four complete state tickets Democratic, Republican, Socialist and Single Taxers. The Prohibitionists and Farmer-Labor groups have lost in their struggle for a place on the ballot, and their strength will be divided among other candidates. There came before the democratic committee today a dispute Involving the fourth district, now represented on the stato central committee by J. Lendall Williams, of Darke county. 'The executive committee of his home county has asked that he be eliminated iron the committee, basing its action on his attitude of opposition to certain of the candidates. The matter was not taken up in detnil today because of the absence of Williams. Williams was opposed In the primary election by the regular organization, which lost to him through overconfidence.
