The Diary of an Engaged Girl By Phyllis Phillip

TuesdayrMade some dashing caricatures of my handsome count in divers roles; one of me in the act of receiving a kiss upon my rather grimy hand, by his nibs. Got the very swing to his long body, as he leans over, and clicks the military heels together. 1 am sure it will please "The Leader." The count asked me to visit his tudio in the Quarter; told me he had many treasures that would Interest me, he felt sure. But although I know he meant well, and doesn't think anything of inviting a woman to his place any more than he would of inviting a man, I pointed out to him that American girls did not visit men in their bachelor apartments; it was against all rules and regulations. Had an effusive letter from my erstwhile Prince Charming today. It certainly seems funny that all my friends can manage to write to me, and my fiance hardly at all. -Tote that the Frenchmen are inclined to be persnicklty; that means in the language of the young and themselves. Have had many a laugh since arriving here in Paris, watching them when they are oft guard. A dapper French monsieur will waltz into a restaurant 'with a very pretty woman, let's say, and sit down. After gazing at her and through her for a few seconds, he will glance at the menu. That being accomplished there is but one more thing to gaze at, and that is himself! Then he gets really funny, for he will deliberately turn round and look at his reflection in the mirror- behind him, twist his head this way and that, like any woman, and admire his features, study his skin, rub his hand over it to see if It ts smooth as he wishes it to be, then take a look at the woman beside him; then back to the mirror again; this time he Invariably produces a pocket comb, and uses it on his hair and his long beard and mustache, preening like a peacock all the while. It's all quite harmless, this little by-play, but to me, most amusing. Meanwhile the lady has fallen

Heart Problems

Dear Mrs. Thompson: I am, 27 vears old, married eight years, and have two children. I have been in divorce proceedings (that was about three years ago), but forgave my husband and took him back on his promise to reform. As it was all In vain and prove 1 worse than ever, I again started a suit. But my husband begs me and says he is willing to do anything in the world for be just to forgive and to forget. I am a nervous wtpck and under a doctor's care at present. At times. I think to unite and again I don't, as I never could forpet the wrong he did me. I know if I went back, I could not stand it any longer, for it is serious and a thing I cannot mention. The secrets of my married life are deep in my heart and they can not be forgotten. My husband said ho loved me dearly. He, showed a kind heart toward me. but he has an awful temper anl he Is unreasonable. I can't say I love him. but still like him. Do you think I should forgive (no forget, as I could not) for the sake of my two sweet children, and take the burden upon me which will keep me in poor health and nervous? I am a Catholic and do not believe in divorce. Please give me your advice. I think that divorce in such a condl tion is necessary before I sacrifice my life for one man and leave m3' minor children behind whirh need me

too on her dejeuner, and is evidently not a bit surprised or annoyed by her escort's absorption in himself, no siree. I should not like to have a Frenchman for a husband, and I find that the most attractive men In this city are the foreigners, the Poles, Russians, Latins and Americans. That's the truth. Am beginning to wonder if Cecil has also deserted me. Haven't seen him for more than a day. He may have written to me" cars of the American Express. Will drop In there later and see. Maybe he Is cross with me about the count. I'd like to see him, for he's awfully good company, is Cecil; besides he understands mfe. He did say something about going out to Montmorency. Lots to be seen there, Including the lovely view of Paris, and several statues of-Rousseau. I do hope that Cecil has written. Aunt Cecilia and Jeffry have been out to Montmorency, and fell so in love with the old church there that they are going to be married in it, on Thursday, just a few hours off, now. My life is flying away, and yet nothing seems to happen. At least not the events that I would like to happen. (To be continued.)

UNA. Though not In general usage, TTna is one of the most interesting of feminine names. It means "famine", according to etymologists, though the great and only Spencer who . brought the name into fashion rejected this interpretation. It is typically an Irish name and since, it resembles "one," Spenser gave the title of Una to his lovely personation of the one truth, the one true, undivided Church, the guide of the Red Cross Knight. Una is queen of the fairies in the county of Ormond, in which she appears In. one version of the soldier billeted on a miser. The man was amazed at his hospitable reception and entertainment, as he thought, by the avaricious squire, until morning disclosed the fact that Una had raised the mansion and provided the supper. Una is much in use today among the Irish peasantry. It is often pronounced Oonagh and has been Anglicized as Winny. - The pearl is Una's talismianic gem. It is the emblem of purity, popularity and affability. She who wears it will have many friends and' admirers. Tuesday is her lucky day, and 5 her lucky number. As a result of privation the present school generation in Germany is said to be doomed.
