Ray Keck, George Welsch and Frank Uenn were In Indianapolis, Thursday tn consultation with Adjutant General Barry B. Smith in regard to the formation of the Richmond company. Permission to form the company was gained. Members of the committee said that work in recruiting would probably start the first of next week. Considerable demand has been voiced by members of the old guard company, and by veterans of the World War, that some military organization be formed. May Enlist For One Year. : The length of enlistment is to be for one year for ex-service men and three years for others. The pay is divided nto seven grades ranging from $106 a year up. i Adjutant Smith stated that companies were being formed all over the state and that particular interest was being shown in the northern part of tfc'6""$1$te where the labor unions were backing the organizations. The first city in Indiana to be mustered in will be Michigan City, which has a complete company organized. The formation of the local unit Is in accord with the army reorganization bill passed by the last congress. All equipment will be furnished by the federal government. John F. Niewoehner Thrown " Frbjn Wagon an$ Injured " John F. Niewoehner, 69 years old, living about four miles sontheast of the city, suffered a slight fracture ot the skull, bruised shoulders and left arm, and other minor cuts and bruises, Thursday afternoon, when thrown from his wagon on South Ninth street between J and L streets. He was reported improving by his attending physician Friday. Mr. Niewoehner, according to his own - story Friday, said that the wagon ran up against the team of mules: This startled the animals into a run, and a jar caused him to lose his balance, throwing him to the cement pavement. A -telephone call to his son, John H. Niewoehner, caused his removal to the latter's home, 823 South G street. Mr. Niewoehner, who is a farmer living about . four . miles southeast of Richmond, -was on his way to town for supplies. .'

City Lodges

Moose Local Moose will meet at the Moose club rooms Sunday morning at 9 a. m. to organize an, automobile caravan that will go to Connersvllle to attend the Moose celebration Sunday at that city. A large number of local Moose Is expected to attend. Red Men The' second degree will be given to several candidates, Friday night, by the local order of Red Men. A called meeting of the lodge will be held next Friday night, Sept. 17. The purpose of the meeting canbot be given out

at this time but officials of the lodge are anxious that every member of

the lodge be present at that time. Odd Fellows Whitewater lodge of I. O. O. F. will confer the first degree on 57 candidates at Eaton, Friday night. The

local degree team and several other

members will make the trip to Eaton. Seven candidates were given work In the first degree at the local hall, Thursday night. K. of P. The K. of P. entertainment committee has promised the members of the

lodge a dance and entertainment to be given some time in the near future but the exact date has not been announced.

Ross Attends Red Cross Meeting in Cincinnati Dr. L. F. Ross, chairman of the Wayne county chapter of the American Red Cross, attended the meeting Of the Red Cross chapters of Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, held in Cincinnati Thursday. Peace time service of the American Red Cross, was the topic at the opening session Thursday night. Frederic C. Monroe, general manager of the American Red Cross with, headquarters in Washington, was the principal speaker. Another session was held Friday. An attempt was made at the sessions to give chapter members a view of Red Cross work from a nationsi standpoint.

Olive Thomas, American moving picture actress, died at the American hospital at Neuilly at 11 o'clock this morning. ; She was 1 taken to the institution several days ago, suffering from mercurial poisoning, having swallowed bichloride of mercury, It was said, by mistake. Dr. Choate, her physician, 6aid Ihe

actress had swallowed a solution ofj alcohol preparation containing 12 grammes of bichloride of mercury, sufficient to kill 25 men, adding that It was taken through error. Recently Miss Thomas, It is said, had been suffering from nervous depression and had expressed fear for the safety of her husband, Jack Pickford. According to Dr. Choate, It was only through the prompt first aid given ' by Pickford on his return to the hotel that Miss Thomas stayed alive so long.
