That we have lost our Individual and national idealism in accepting the peace treaty, Is the belief of Dr. M. H. Lichliter, of Boston, who lectured at the Richmond Chautauqua Monday evening. England and Japan, he said, had gone Into the peace conference with the delegates well informed and prepared to get what the two nations wanted. And they got it. America, he said, had lost everything. There must be a revival of American idealism, he said; a rebirth of patriotism. Americans must cultivate a will of friendship toward the foreigners whom, he says, we have not given sufficient consideration. The speaker urged the practical application of the gospel of Jesus Christ in bringing about an international brotherhood and a world kinship, which, he said, would adjust political and social antagonism. Denounces Attitude Toward Alien Dr. Lichliter denounced the indifferent attitude of America toward the foreigner who comes to this country inspired by the high ideals of American institutions, desiring to became a citizen, and. who, because of this indifference, has been alienated and made a prey of the selfish industrial interests and unscrupulous politicians until he eventually becomes a member of the party of the discontented. We must give them a chance to know us, he said.
