or to approve fitness and beauty.

It is then necessary to circulate a petition and obtain the signatures of

500 tax payers In Wayne county who shall approve the plans and specifica-

tions, costs, etc., of the memorial set

forth In the petition. In case of remonstrance or protest, the same is put into writing and signed by the same

Upon order of the establishment of such a memorial, a board of trustees 13 named which shall constitute a board : for the establishment, maintenance,

rial. Three trustees are named by the county commissioners or county

council and two are named by the Judge of the circuit court, five In all. Money to cover the cost of .the me- ; -norlal may be raised in two ways, first by Issuing bonds, payment on ; which shall not exceed 20 years with five per cent interest, or a special tax ' actually to be levied and the ; money collected In time to pay for the memorial when completed.

Senator Brandegee

Connecticut, B. B. . Brandegee, senior U. S senator from that state, whose

term expires March 4 next, will not be

opposed for renominatlon at the Re

publican- primaries. His reelection

in November seems assured. . Senator Brandegee was born in New Londan, Conn, in 1864. He graduated from Yale in in 1S85 and three years later was admitted to the bar.

The same year he was elected a representative to the general assembly of Connecticut. In 1889 he was elected corporation c o u nsel of New London and was re-elected

several times, filling that post for ten years. Senator Brandegee, going to the senate in 1905, succeeded Orville H. Piatt. HeBerved until 1909 and was reelected in 1914 for the term expiring March, 1921. Strongly opposed to the league of nations yet In favor of confirming peace at the earliest possible moment, the senator has been a stern critic of the Wilson administration. At one time be asserted In an interview on the league covenant that the United States was facing the question of preserving or surrendering the independence of this nation. "The so-called covenant for a league

of nations," he said, "is a hideous monstrosity. I shall never vote for it till hell freezes over and I think that event is somewhat remote."

These calves will be sold at Public Auction Friday, Aug. 27, at 10 o'clock a. m., to the highest bidder and the amount over and above the actual cost of the calf will be given to the boy who raised the calf.
