MOTOR SPEEDWAY TO BE BUILT AT ONCE BY WINCHESTER MEN

WINCHESTER, Ind.. Aug. 14 A number of Winchester business men have formed a company to be known as the Funk's Lake Speedway Company, and have taken over the race track at Funk's Lake. A number of improvements will be made to the track and g vi s. The turns on the track are to oe banked much higher than at present, enabling race drivers to make much faster time than was

possible heretofore. The track will be oiled to eliminate dust, which has been objectionable, at former races. A new grand Etand is to be erected, as well as a new refreshment stand. A new traffic system has been worked out so that large crowds may be handled without confusion. It is the intention of the new organization to stage nothing but high class races. No "barnstormers" will be allowed to enter any races, and no motorcycle races will be run. A race is already scheduled for Labor Day,, with a purse of $1,000. Thieves Visit Barn. The barn of Fred Weist, who lives on the Irvin Cranor farm, one-half mile south of town, was visited by thieves,- Wednesday night and goods to the value of about $150 were stolen. The articles taken consisted mostly of buggy harness, work harness, bridles and halters. Entertain Prof. Clark. A very pleasant evening was spent Wednesday at the handsome new home of Mr. and Mrs. Allison Burnsworth, in Farmland, the event being in honor of Professor and Mrs. J. R. Clark and little daughter, Janice, who leave that place soon for Winchester, where Prof. Clark has been engaged as one of he Instructors in the McKinley school. Missionary Rally. The Woman's Missionary societies of the Churches of Christ of Randolph county will hold an all day rally on the school grounds at Lynn, on Thursday, August 19. The confer

ence will be led by Mm. O. H. Grelst, state secretary, of Union City. Mrs. J. A. Walls, district secretary, of Richmond, will talk. Well-known Farmer Dies. Oliver Coats, 75, is dead at his home here of heart disease. He was born and reared in this county. He spent the past few years In this city. He followed the occupation of farmer, until Ihe last few years. He is survived by the widow and four children, three sons and a daughter. No funeral arrangements will be made until word is received from the daughter, who lives in northern Canada. Soldier Gets Medal. Wesley Leisure of this city, has received from the War Department, a picture of the "Goddess of Liberty" with an American Soldier kneeling by her side. This picture was sent to Mr. leisure as a token of services well performed while in the service of his country, in the world war. At the top of the picture are the words, "Served with honor In the World War," and at the bottom are "Columbia gives to her son the accolade of the new chivalry of humanity." Elect Officers. At a meeting of the Randolph county Poland China Association held Thursday evening, arrangements were made for the annual sale to take place in Winchester. Octboer 19. The officers

are, Earl Wise, president, Winchester; Harry Powers, vice-president; Union City and Dean Purey, Secretary, Winchester. Accused of Robbery. James Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Martin, of this city, has been charged, in connection with three others, of robbing a store in Rushville, Indiana. He was arrested by Sheriff Davisson, on information from officials in Rushville. He was returned to Rushville and is now in jail awaiting bond. Field Meet. The Haynes Automobile company, of Kokomo, and the Union City Body company have Joined together in a field meet, on August 19, at Kokomo,

The McKinley school house, east of the city, was broken into Wednesday night, and over $100 of tools were stolen from the Manual Training room. The lock on the outer door was broken, and the door knocked in that led to the manual training room. Tiny Tot Injured. The two year old son, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Voats, living two miles southeast of Winchester, is suffering from a severe scalp wound which he received when he fell from a wagon, the wheel

running over his head. The child saw his brothers on the wagon which was coming down the road and ran to meet them. He attempted to climb on the vagon and fell, pjad thus frightened the horses. They started with a jirk and he was thrown under the wheel.

He will recover. Inter City Baseball. Two interesting ball games were played at Goodrich Park, Wednesday afternoon. The Southside boys, 20; Northside boys, 6. Professional men, 9; merchants, 2. G. O. P. Women Organize. The Republican women of Randolph county completed an organization of the 44 precincts at a meeting held in Republican headquarters, Wednesday afternoon. All county officers were named and arrangements were made for women of the county to attend the

public meeting to be held at the same place, Thursday evening.

Marcus Murray was arrested by Sheriff Davisson, Wednesday, on a charge of being implicated in the grain robbery for which Peter Fogle was arrested Tuesday, and placed in jail. Besides the grain which was located at the Harrisvllle elevator, 13 sacks were found this morning hidden In the woodshed at Fogle's home. Fogle was put through a sweat box by the sheriff and confessed that he was

guilty. He said that Murray, an employee at the Graft Elevator, would

open the place early in the morning and put the grain out for him to haul away. Murray has been in the employ of Graft for 12 years. He was released on a $2,000 bond, with Charles Graft as surety. Will Probated. The will of Silas Dudley has been admitted for probate. After the payment of all debts, he wills to Ijis two sons, Orland and Orville Dudley, and to his daughter, Minnie C. Williams, the sum of $10 each and to his wife, Arena Dudley, the residue of the estate. After her death, the estate is to be divided between his two sons, Tessie and Leland Dudley, share and share alike. He desires a monument

to be erected at a cost of $400. He names his wife as executrix. The will
