SLIP GOG AND DROP BACK WHEN DODGERS BEAT OUT REDS, 9-0 1 BROOKLYN. N. Y.. July 29. The Cincinnati Reds, baseball champions of the universe, can advance to within a few points of the league leading Dodgers by copping three out of four games. The book of dope says the Reds have a good chance as Luque and Eller remain on the pitching menu. This pair trimmed the Dodgers at Cincinnati and should be able to repeat. The Reds passed up an opportunity of hauling into first place during the series when an awful 9 to 0 defeat was slapped on 'em by the Dodgers Wednesday afternoon.. It was the worst walloping of the season. Brooklyn slammed Red pitchers for 18 hits, liowe, recruit, made the best showing, blanking the Dodgers in the two innings in which he worked. The score:

EARLY AUGUST TO SEE SMASH OF CLAY BIRDS

Preparations for a trap shoot on Aug. 4 and 5 at the old Athletic park on South Twenty-second street, are being made by the newly organized Quaker City Gun club. Omer Jones, one of the leading trap shooters in this section of the country, has been elected president of the club. Ed Higgs was elected vice president; Waldo Dubbs, secretary; I E. Harter, treasurer. Present plans are that 25 professional clay pigeon smashers will be sent here from the different powder and gun manufacturles of the country for an exhibition shoot next week and that various gun clubs in this section of the state and Ohio, will also be here. A trap Is to be erected at Athletic field this week and practice shoots held. Any Richmondites wishing to Join the club are to get application blanks from Waldo Dubbs.

H.S. ATHLETES MUST OBEY TRAINING RULES

Announcement that Harold Taggart will coach the Richmond high Bchool basketball team the coming season, has turned conversation of senior high school students from baseball to basketball. Judging from the tone of conversation, the student body is beginning to lealize that a good Jeam cannot bo turned out unless proper training rules are observed. Miss Alice Lanning, recently ap pointed dean, of girls at the senior high' school, and Miss Margaret Wickeraeyer, girls' athletic supervisor, will be called upon during the term to influence the girls to limit the number of entertainments and dances to which members of the squad will be Invited. It is realized that real successful training depends upon the action of the high school girls. Advance hints are that cigarette smokers on the squad will be warned once and fired the second time.

tennis tourneys have been received at the playgrounds. He is confident that about 15 entries will be made in each class. It is more than probable, however, that the boy division will be abandoned. One or two good players under 16 will enter the Junior division.

RICHMOND DIVISION TEAM GETS 11 TO 6 WALLOPING The Richmond division basebail team received a 11 to 6 walloping from tho Cincinnati division nine at Xenia, O., Wednesday afternoon. RUSHVILLE ROOTERS TO BACK TAIL LIGHTS

Breezes blowing here from Rushville indicate that a caravan of flivvers and automobiles will follow the Rushville baseball team to Richmond for its game with the Richmond Eagles at Exhibition Park, Sunday afternoon. Rushville is proud of its Tail Light team and backs it to the Imit. The Rushville visit means that Richmond will have to play a return game, however. The return game will not be played until the squabble for the championship of Wayne county is settled. Manager Everette Haas is not overly enthusiastic over Richmond's chances to send the Tail Lights back with the small end of the score to Rushville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis,

and other towns from which they were gathered. It is probable that another game with Connersvllle will be scheduled. The Eagles are still smarting oyer the fact that Connersville struck '1 them when the present strong line-up was in a green state. Since that ancient day, the Eagles have rounded into a strong aggregation. Women will be admitted to all games played by the Eagles at Exhibition park free of charge for the rest of the season. A Jitney war tax will be charged, however. Getting Antwerp Stadium Ready For the Athletes (By Associated Press) ANTWERP, July 29 Both the main Olympic stadium and the swimming stadium will be opened to the athletes for training within a few days. Entries in almost all events have now been closed, but it is understood the lists may be added because of delay in the mail service. England and the United States will

be represented in all the swimming competitions. Australia will take, part in many of them, while South Africa is listed for participation in several of the events, including those for women.

Phil Douglas. The other day down in New York Phil Douglas's shuiHin' feet (rot the better of him and once more the Giant pitcher fell from the straifrht and narrow path. It is believed that McGraw will offer the- hurler to the other big clubs in the league and that none of the clubs will take a chance on him, thereby leaving Phil with nothing to do but shuffle to the minors.
