MANNIX IS BARRED FROM ENGLAND FOR PRO-IRISH SPEECHES LONDON. July 27. Seriousness ot the Irish situation was increased Monday when Premier David Lloyd George announced in the House of Commons that Archbishop Daniel J. Mannlx, ot Melbourne, Australia, would not be permitted to land in England because of his utterances regarding conditions in Ireland. Premier W. M. Hughes, of Australia, denounced the archbishop In a speech in Bendlgo that has caused a profound stir throughout the BritiBh Empire. In part. Premier Hughes saidf "Today the British Empire is surrounded by enemies. It is being attacked by Bolshevism, Sinn Feinism and Germanism. Says Empire la League. "The British Empire la a League of NatlunB, bound by Us ties of blood and race. "If you break Britain, you break Australia. "When you see in our midst, therefore, men who would break up the Empire and plunge a dagger Into its heart, what are we to think of such men except that they are traitors?" "I, care not what you think of England as England, but I am concerned about what effect that will have on Australia. "It means death for us, and because of that I shall smite them hip and thigh. "When Archbishop Mannix said that the sentiments he uttered were supported by the bulk of the inhabitants of Australia, he said that which was not true. "He has only one objective and that is the destruction of the Empire, or, at any rate, the founding of a republic of Ireland. Irish Repubhe Opposed. "I am not going to say that Ireland has no grievance, but I am opposed Irrevocably to a republic of Ireland and will fight it tooth and nail by every means in my power, because it means the dismemberment of the Empire and the dismemberment of the Empire means the destruction of Australia. "Monseigneur Mannix says his one hope is that England and America will be enemies and that Ireland will fight England, and that America will fight England. "If that hope is realized we will see a war the like of which the world never has seen. "Hopo for the peace of the world lies not in a league of nations, but in that firm alliance of understanding and co-operation which has existed for more than a hundred years between America and Britain and between the British empire and America. Branded as Criminal. "If it was necessary to choose betwen the kaiser and that man as to

A Simple Way To Remove Dandruff
There is one sure way that has never failed to remove dandruff at once, and that is to dissolve it, then you destroy it entirely. To do this, just get about four ounces of plain, common liquid arvon from any drug store (this is all you will need), apply it at night when retiring; use enough to moisten the scalp and rub It in gently with the finger tips. By morning, most if not all, of your dandruff will be gone, and three or four more applications will completely disrjlve and entirely destroy every Bingle sign and trace of it, no matter how much dandruff you may" have. You will find all itching and digging of the scalp will stop instantly, and your hair will be fluffy, lustrous, glossy, silky and soft, and look and feel a hundred times better. Adv.
which was the greater criminal, I know which one I would choose.' The kaiser was pushed Into this, but Monseigneur Mannix went on his own free will. "The Australian publlo repudiates him. It wishes America to understand that Australia is part and parcel of the British empire and Intends to remain there. "Australia holds out the hand of friendship to peaceful nations, particularly America. We realize that America's destiny and our own coincide in the Pacific and we desire America's aid there."

WASHINGTON. , The "Hispaniola," the vessel In which the stout hearted treasure-seekers in Stevenson's "Treasure Island" sailed the Main and fought pirates and mutineers, lives in Maurice Tourneur"3 film version of the classic of adventure, which will be shown at Washington Theatre Tuesday and Wednesday. For many weeks before the making of the picture, Mr. Tourneur sought foi a replica of the treasure-ship. Finally a barkentlne called the "Fremont," long since abandoned as unseaworthy, was located and arrangements made with the owner to make repairs and use it. The "Fremont" fits Stevenson's description of the "Hispaniola" in every detail. It was built originally to trans port slaves from Africa and made two such voyages. Later it became a pirate ship and as such was seized by the government, which for many years used it as a jmtrol boaC Mr tourneur equipped it with all the gear of the pirate days, filled its decks with swarthy turbaned buccaneers, and rechristened it "Hlspanola" for its

Wallace McDonald, who la playing opposite Marguerite Clark In her new photoplay, "A Girl Named Mary," at the Murrette theatre this week, secured his first motion picture engagement as the result rof a "handsome man contest" conducted by a prominent screen publication. The result of the voting was something of a surprise, as McDonald was at that time an unknown, and outstripped several popular film favorites n the contest. Ths brought him to the attention of a film producer and he became a leading man, making good from the start. His role in "A Oirl Named Mary." is that of a foreman printer, a loyal, good hearted ohap in love with the pretty stenographer-heroine, played by Miss Clark. The picture is from the story by Juliet Wllbor Tompkins, which first appeared serially in a popular magazine. It is a paramount
