NEXT WEEK AT THE' EATER
MURRAY. . . "White Lies," a photodrama from the. novel by Charles Reade and presented by Willlaa Fox with Gladys Brockwell In the leading role, -will open an engagement at the Murray theatre on Monday. This is a thrilling story which tells of events following In the wake of lies
so-called "white" lies, but black enough in their evil influence, bringing suffering and disgrace to' Innocent victims. It is a story that appeals forcibly to the emotions. i Miss Brockwell is supported by' a strong cast, including William Scott. Josephine Crowell, Evans Kirk, Violet Schram, Charles Ki French. Howard Scott and Lule, Warrenton. , The scenario was written by' Charles Wilson and the picture directed by Edward J. Le Saint.
Altftougn "Captain Swift," Earie Williams' Vitagraph feature which closes Sts run Sunday at- the Murray theatre, has a- former highwayman and bank robber as its hero. It is by no means a "crook" play. The bandit has reformed, and it is the efforts of the police operatives, who have followed him over a goodly portion of the continent . and who ' meet - up witn him just as he has found redemption in the love of a splendid woman, to place him In prison that forms the basis of the engrossing story. ' A' prologue with Its scenes laid In the bush country of Australia, where he plied his nefarious trade,1 give at mosphere and lay the foundation of
the story to come. , Rayier than showing Captain Swift as a crook, a ban-! dit. a robber and a thief, he is shown with nothing but kindness in hl!heart. It was his wont to rob only 'those who could afford to lose, and most of his ill gotten gains went to charity. He becomes a real hero. . No harsh thoughts are given to his unfortunate past,' and there is nothing but sympathy and best wishes for Captain Swift when it looks as If he must' give up his titled sweetheart and return to Australia for a term In prison. It is far removed from being a "crook" play. It is clean and wholesome and full of tense action, from beginning to end. It is a typical Earle Williams feature, and the star is seen at his best. MURRAY VAUDEVILLE Princess. CWga and . her troupe of five trained' leopards are booked to headline the new bill which opens next Monday matinee at The Murray for the first half. For years she has performed the most hazardous feats with wild beasts In the Selig studios especially In the serial, "The Adventures of Kathlyn," where she made tigers, lions and lpopards obey her will. Her "pets" as she terms them are named Sappho, Sassy, Tiny, Queenie nnd Kelly. Princess Olga enters the steel cage entirely unprotected, not even using a whip, which is all the more wonderful considering the leopard is considered the most treacherous of the feline family. On the tame bill will be Bartlett, Smith nd Sherry, three clever boys
who sing popular songs and inject a
vein of comedy in their efforts, and Miss Bobby Harris, a comely young lady who is an adept at the art of
entertaining and who will furnish a
complete surprise. ' MURRETTE. One of the most unusual romances
ever conceived by an author is presented in Allan Dwan's production of a "Splendid Hazard." Harold MacGrath's vigorous narrative of love and burled treasure. It presents in true perspective the transitory influence of infatuation as opposed to the solidity and permanence of love that springs
from. sympathy, understanding, and sincere affection. "A Splendid Hazard" relates the romance of Karl Breitman, who is oh sessed with an overwhelming ambition and Hedda Gobert, beautiful prima donna. With, the deliberate intention of securing a treasure map In Hedda's possession, Breitman woos the diva, although he has no feeling for her. "She falls madly In love with him. Having, secured the map, he ignores
the pleas of the woman and sails for America. Her great love having blinded her, she abandons her career and follows him. Arthur Cathewe, her manager, who has proposed to thy singer many times and been rejected, insists on accompanying her to America, thus complicating the love story. This Interesting $ituation comes to head In a powerful climax in far-away Corsica, where Fate untangles the twisted ekelns of the romance. Breitman is played in "A Splendid Hazard" by Henry B. Walthall, while the character of Hedda Gobert is enacted by Rosemary Theby, and that of Cathewo by Pbilo McCullough. .... "A Splendid Hazard" is presented by the Mayflower Photoplay corporation, through First National, and Is coming to the Murrette theatre for three days, beginning Sunday. Red-blooded, adventure-loving motion picture fans should not fail to see "Desert Love," at the Murrette theatre and today is their last opportunity to do so. The Fox picture features the admirable Tom Mix, "daredevil of the
screen," and fully deserving the true. It is a typical western story, but with more than the normal "pep." The commonplace bores Tom Mix. He is himself a two-fisted, fighting specimen of the cowpuncher at the best in a story of intense . action and struggle. The rest of the cast Is of calibre high enough to live up to Mix's standard, and Includes Francella Billington, Eva Novak, Lester Cuneo, Charles K. French and Jack Curtis. The director is Jacques Jaccard.

COMMITTEEMEN GET READY TO GATHER IN VOTE INFORMATION
The precinct " committeeman the backbone of any political organization that functions is about to sally forth to gather information about the-voters of the Sixth district. He will list the names and addresses of all eligible voters. Inquiring of ach whether he or she is a Republican, a Democrat, a Socialist or possibly a 48'r. There are something like 3,500 precincts in the state. This time the committeemen's task will be doubly arduous for, in addition to men voters, he must get tab on all women willing to confess to 21 years, and get some line on their political
affiliation. It remains to b9 seen just what per centage of the new women voters are settled on what their party faith is to be. The Democrats, it is stated at their state headquarters, will list the new voters separately. The Republicans in most instances will take the men and women voters at the same time, listing them in the same pollbook in each precinct To Have Women Heads. The Democrats will have a precinct committee woman as well as a precinct committeeman for each precinct. The committee woman will take the poll of the. women while the committeeman will confine his efforts to the men. The Democrats have about perfected their woman's precinct organization, the names of nearly 3,500 precinct committee women having been reported by the county organizations to state headquarters. The Republicans probably will depend largely on their committeemen to gather the names of both men and women voters, though in many of the counties the committeeman will have the aid of a woman worker. Pol I books Are Out. The pollbooks, two for each precinct were sent out from Democratic state headquarters yesterday with instructions for the polltakers to get busy on Aug. 1. The Republicans sent out their poll-
books 6ome time ago and already complete polls have been received from some of the counties. They expect to have a report from every county by Aug. 15. The poll now being taken or about to be taken is preliminary to the first registration of voters to be made on Sept. 4.
A second poll, taken 30 days before the election, naturally will give better political Information to the party
managers.
