TANGLE FOR TOP OF LEAGUE IN A GAMES CINCINNATI, Ohio, July 13. The league leading Brooklyn Dodgers will arrive In Cincinnati Friday and will play four consecutive games. The largest crowds of the year are expected Saturday and Sunday, as the series with the Dodgers will about settle the league leadership question. Three times this year the Reds havo been forced to put the skids beneath an ambitious contender, Brooklyn. Chicago and Pittsburg being the unlucky. The three out of four games at Brooklyn on the Re,d's eastern invasion, pulled the Dodgers out of first place. They have recovered, however, and are leading the Reds. The Dodgers appear to have easy picking with the Cubs, as they copped a double header Monday by sand lot scores. The Reds also copped, defeating the PhlUlea 4 to 3 In ten Innings. The game should hare been won In nine InningB, but three errors In the ninth allowed the Phillies to score two runs and tie the score. BIG BRASS BAND TO HELP WELCOME NINE FROM ZANESVILLE, 0. Tentative plans by Omer Todd, athletic manager, aro that a brass band, parade, automobiles and electric horns will usher in the first game of the inter-divisional series between the Richmond and Zanesville division baseball clubs at Exhibition Park Thursday afternoon. Todd believes that a stinging defeat will accompany Zanesville from Richmond Thursday night. Todd Is optimistic regarding his team. He believes Zanesville and Cincinnati will be taken into camp. He is doubtful of Columbus, however. The latter division has had a railroad league for peveral years and is perfectly organized. A railroad semipro team travels from Columbus on Saturdays. This team, strengthened by several players from the league, will be shoved against Richmond. Fltzgibbons Is Captain. Cy Fltzgibbons has been named cap-! tain 01 tne Richmond division team. He had a squad of 30 players at Exhibition Park Monday afternoon. Half of these were from out of town but no sensational players were discovered. The same number of players will be out to the park Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Indications, according to Todd, are that Roop will start Thursday's gnme against Zanesville. The lanky Hurler has Bhown great stuff in recent workouts. Chlng McConaha has also been going good. Qarthwalte, the other hurler, may play second because of his hitting. Cy Fltzgibbons at short. Winters at third and Craycraft at first complete the Infield. Carl Runnels, the 18 year old hurler for the Shamrocks, seems to have center field clinched. Ilengstler has been going good in the left garden. Tommy Fltzgibbons is a capable gardner, but has a fatal weakness with the stick. Despite this, however, he has a good chance for the right field berth. Work Starts on Field. Work is to be started on the athletic field at the Pennsylvania east yards next week. This is to include a cinder running track, baseball diamonds and football field, and four tennis courts. Although not contemplated this year Todd says a recreation house or a Y. M. C. A. building may be built by the railroad at the yards. Columbus has a large building that is maintained for the employes but which is selfsupporting. Suburban Leaguers Worry Over Centerville Defection Sunday's Suburban league baseball games depends upon action taken by a meeting of Suburban league moguls In the Y. M. C. A. Friday night. The chief topic at the meeing will be Centerville. This latter ball club has been slipping, and last Sunday it slipped. A meeting of baseball fans is to be held at that town Tues day night for reorganization purposes. It Is believed that Suburban league moguls will bolster Centerville so as to finish the season. Except this town, the league Is a real success. Lynn was one of tho latest teams to enter but Lynn is on a par with Whitewater and Eldorado for record crowds. Commercial League The Item and Pennsylvania Commercial leaguers will stage the first game of the week of that organization at the playgrounds Tuesday afternoon. GIANTS ISSUE DEFI TO RICHMOND EAGLES

Manager Charles Cooper of the Richmond Giants has issued a challenge to the Richmond Eagles for a 6eries of games to settle the championship of Richmond and Wayne county. Cooper has pointed out that his team has defeated the Dayton Rubbers, an aggregation that trimmed the Eagles. The Eagles defeated Hamilton by a lop-sided score, however, where the Giants had a hard time winning. It Is understood that the Eagles have several games scheduled, but are willing to play the Giants later in tho summer. Manager Cooper, of the Giants, said he would take his team to New Richmond, Ky., on July 26 for the national convention of the colored Knights of Pythias. Five games will be played
