Mr. and Mrs. Alton Hale were host and hostess for a reception at their pretty 'country home on the Henley road, Tuesday afternoon In honor of Mr. and Mrs. William Bayard Hale and Bona, Hadley Hale and William Bayard Hale, Jr., of New York City, who are the houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. Hale. Thirty guests called. During the afternoon an informal musical program was given by Mrs. Fred Bartel, soprano; Miss Alice Knollenberg, pianist; Miss Cornelia Shaw, of Mt. Clair, New Jersey, violinist, and Miss Mildred Schalk, pianist. Late in the afternoon refreshments were served on the lawn. Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Youngflesh, South Fifteenth street, entertained

in honor of their eon. Stanley Youngflesh, and niece, Miss Getrude Veit, of Wapakoneta, O. Japanese lanterns and garden flowers presented an attractive scene for the dancers and the pretty summer f rockB of gay young

girls added to the beauty of the occasion. Miss Mary Katherine Young-

flesh and Miss Virginia Harris presided at the punch bowl during the 'evening. The guests included Miss Velt, Miss Helen Hill of Detroit, Miss Gertrude Williams, Miss Mary Jones, Miss Jane Carpenter, Miss Winifred Comstock, Miss Mildred Whitely, Miss Benlta Monarch, Miss Louise (Monarch, Miss Dorothy Lebo, Miss !Mary Kinehart, Burr Simmons, Roland Cutter, James Sackman, Richard Robinson, Marlon Zuttermeister, Robert Hodgln, Elwln Hoerner, Claude Miller, Harold Latta, David Host, and Stanley Youngflesh. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lebo, East Main street, have- as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Tanner, of Milwaukee, former residents of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Julian McCarthy, nee Miss Martha Illff, have gone to Los 'Angeles, Cal., for residence. Lawrence Chrow, North Tenth street will leave Thursday afternoon for New ;York City, to remain until October, when he will return to Carnegie, in Pittsburgh, where he is a student. Mrs. Charles Shaw, Miss Elizabeth Shaw, and Mrs. Paul Wilburn, of j Indianapolis, came Tuesday to visit 'Mrs. Ira Swisher and Mrs. Harry Shaw.. The R. M. C. R. club will meet Tuesday at 7 p. m. at the home of Miss Ruby Wettig, South Eleventh street. The -Perseverance Bible class of the First Baptist church will postpone its regular meeting until a later date. All women will be admitted free to the ball game to be played at Exhibition park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Will Long, South Ninth street, entertained Monday evening for the pleasure of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Guston. who will leave soon for residence in Piqua. Miss Irene and Miss Thelma Daub have returned from Indianapolis, where they spent a week. Mr. and Mrs. George Albright of Cincinnati are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Daub. Miss Mary Parks, of Washington, D. C, has come to spend a month with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Parks, southeast of the city.

FREIGHT CONDUCTOR KILLED. LAPORTE, Ind., July 13 One man was killed at Hanna, Ind., Sunday afternoon when a caboose on the Penn

sylvania railroad was pushed Into an open switch. The switch was left open by the crew of a local freight. Conductor Williamson, who was standing on the rear of the caboose, was thrown off. Hi3 neck was broken and he died in a few seconds.
