Old Evils Creep Into Commercial League The action of the Pennsylvania commercial lengue baseball team in pitching Garthwaite in the fourth inning oi Hie gaine with Hip Home Telephone company at the Playgrounds Friday
liay be the beginning of the end for V'-e Commercial league.
It was made an iron clad rule at. th organization meeting that no club was allowed to play men that had S. A. L. or semi-pro experience for at least three yearsmrmious to this year. The second game the Pcnnsy wanted to pi'.ch Garthwaite, but was finally perisuaded not to. Other league members are point; to take the matter up with President Sam Vigran. A now ruling probably will have to be made or the league may break up, as three of the teams are said to bo playing men that play semi-pro baseball every Sunday.

July 10 The opening meeting of the 1920 grand circuit season came to a close at North Randall today with a card of five races, considered by horsemen to be one of the best of the week. The free-for-all pace, with seven of the greatest side-wheelers in training named to start, was the feature. Sonardo, Single G. Verlie Patchen, Grace Direct, Go'idie Todd, Louis Grattan and Gladys B., all with records of 2:026 or better, composed the field.
DOUBLE HEADERS FOR SUBURBANS SUNDAY
Sunday's Suburban League Schedule. New Paris at New Madison, two games. Shamrocks at Lynn, two games. Eldorado at Centerville. Senators at Whitewater. Miller-Kempers at Boston. Double headers will be played by Suburban league teams for the first time Sunday afternoon. Richmond Shamrocks at Lynn and New Paris at Lynn are the teams that will have the two-somes. The Eldorado-Centerville game probably holds the greatest significance. The former team is leading the league with a perfect percentage and expects to continue to lead after Sunday's game. Centerville has a powerful team, but has been off form in recent
scraps. The standing: Team W. U Pet. Eldorado 4 0 1.000 Whitewater 3 1 .750 Lynn 2 1' .666 Senators 2 2 .500 Centerville 2 2 .500 New Paris 1 1 .500 Boston 1 2 .333 New Madison 1 3 .250 Shamrocks x 1 3 .250 Miller-Kempers 1 3 .250 PENNSY TRYOUTS TO CONTINUE NEXT WEEK
REDS DROP FROM 1ST PLACE AS RESULT OF BEATING BY BRAVES
CINCINNATI, O.. July 10 Slim Sallee and Senor Luque have been nominated by Manager Moran of the
Reds to collect a pair of games from the Boston Braves at Redland Field, Saturday afternoon. The Reds were great stuff on taking two games at one bite last year. This year they shine on losing two gamea at one gulp. . Excepting Eddie Roush, the Reds are in the midst of a batting slump. Duncan, Groh and Daubert have not had a good batting day for a week. The weakness of this trio can be blamed for the 3 to 1 defeat handed our boys by the Boston Braves, Friday afternoon. The Reds were all set to cop a game as Walter Reuther was in the box and going good. In recent game the Reds have been getting about five runs for their star. McQuillen held the Reds to five measly hits and except for Roush's timely bingles, would have shut them out. Drop From First Place. The defeat of the Reds while Brooklyn split even with the Cards in a double header, cost the Reds first place. They have a 40 point lead over the third place Cubs. "This means," says Todd, "that players that appear to have jobs on the division team cinched, may be displaced by some player from another town. Hamilton, Ohio, has several good players employed, and' I look to get hold of them." The players that appear to have jobs cinched are Fitzgibbons, ss; Winters, 3b; Dunn, c; Roop, and MeCon aha, pitchers. Ilengstler, Craycraft, Runnells, Rhinehart, Moore, Garth waite, Holden and Wilson are mentioned as likely candidates. Exhibition park has been obtained by the Pennsy for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons of next week. Other teams will use Reid field at Earlham, Playgrounds and the Glen Miller diamonds.

Also the Palladium had hit the bottom of the heap. The Telephone company climbed into a tie for first place by a 5 to 3 victory over the Pennsy Railroaders The winners assumed an early lead although their hitting was not as hard as usual. The Pennsy put Garthwaite, pitcher for the Wayne Works, in the S. A. L., in the box In the fourth inning. Fortunately the Telephones won the game or else a protest would have been filed because of the Railroaders playing a S. A. L. player.
