OUTLOOK IS DARK FOR SUFFRAGE AS LOUISIANA REFUSES

I BATON ROUGE, ., July 9 Efforts (,to Suspend the rules of the Houae of ; Representatives of the Louisiana legislature so as to act on Jhe suffrage amendment before adjournment of the session tonight failed Thursday, the motion being voted down, 52 to 46. The attempt to have the Legislature reconsider Its action In refusing to ratify the amendment was made following receipt of a telegram by the chairman of the state Democratic committee from Governor James M. Cor, Democratic presidential nominee, In which the governor expressed the opinion that the legislature owed It to the Democratic party to ratify. KNOXVTLLE, Tenn., July 9. Miss Annie Bock, of Los Angeles, former equal suffrage leader to V. K. Anderson, representative In the lower house of the Tennessee Legislature, urged him not to support ratification of the Buftfage amendment. Suffrage, she says, "ooarsens and cheapens women?" She expresses regret as to her former activities in its behalf, saying that Bince suffrage has been granted there has been an alarming Increase In Immorality, divorce and murder In California. The letter follows: "I was one of the prominent workers who helped to bring suffrage to California, and I regret It. "A year In politics has taught me that women are lntolerent, radical, revolutionary and more corrupt In politics than men; also, all this socalled reform leads to the Socialistic co-operative commonwealth. "Since suffrage there has been an alarming Increase In immorality, diI. voice and murder in California. "Woman suffrage has made cowards end puppets of men. It has coarsened and cheapened women. Were the men to vote on woman suffrage in California today, it would not carry. "Suffragists asked for suffrage that they might put only good men in office; now the clamor for a 50-50 show for all offices. "I shall do penance forever for the part I played in bringing suffrage to California. "Please urge your colleagues not to do what will bring regret and disaster, but to stand for that 90 per cent of women who do not favor suffrage but ore glad to trust all politics and governmental affairs to their husbands, fathers, sons and brothers. "To the South woman suffrage would bring more than calamity." OFFICIALS TO GIVE BATTLE. WASHINGTON, July 8. Balnbridge Colby, Secretary of State, and Attorney

WASHINGTON In Pinna Nesblt the Goldwyn staff believe they have found the Ideal woman for the part of Mary Regan in Leroy Scott's picture "Partners of the Night." ' She la the only girl In the cast and surrounded by crooks and detectives has a very unusual acting opportunity. She is dark and very interesting to talk to, but declined to be interviewed. She gave as her excuse that there was nothing interesting to tell. It was easy to believe that Miss Nesbit was not telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. It wasn't possible to be so charming and have nothing to tell. "Of course," said Miss Nesbit, "I was bom in Canada and have lived most of my life in army posts. Since I was ten I have always wanted to act, but then every girl does, doesn't she? I had always wanted to act on the stage but never thougght of motion pictures until one night at dinner I met Frances Marlon, who has written many scenarios for the screen. She asked me if I would like to play in a motion picture. She knew of one that was being taken in a camp in tho Adirondacks. "I went, saw and was taken. Almost everyone knows that Sage Tea and Sulphur, properly compounded, bring3 back the natural color and lustre to the hair when faded, streaked or gray. Years ago the only way to get this mixture was to make it at home, which is mussy and troublesome. Nowadays we simply ask at any drug store for "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound." You will get a large bottle of this old-time recipe improved by the addition of other Ingredients, at very little cost. Everybody uses this preparation now, because no cne can possibly tell that you darkened your hair, as it does it so naturally and evenly. You dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time; by morning the gray hair disappears, and after another application or two, your hair becomes beautifully dark, thick and glossy and you look years younger Advertisement.
