PLENTY FRUIT, BUT EVERYTHING ELSE'S UNCERTAIN, HE SAYS Housewirea are continually finding themselves emerging from food scares and complications only to be plunged
into another. For them It 1b losing game to try and provide staple articles at a reasonable figure. Now as tne canning; season Is close at hand we are told that there will be plenty of fruit, and that a.i a result of this bountiful supply the price will have to come down . But along comes the prediction by a local -wholesaler that sugar, a necessity of canning, la a doubtful Ingredient. Also that tin and glass cans, articles absolutely required, not only
are high but also uncertain. I In this city, he said, the supply of j sugar is fairly good, but the chance
or getting more for the large demand at canning time, 1b something that cannot be counted upon. There will be plenty In spotB, but whether Richmond will be one of the spots, is yet to be determined. Strikes Given Blame. Strikes by men employed at the refineries and bad transportation facilities are two of the most Important reasons. Manufacturers of tin cans and glass jars are experiencing much trouble with labor, according to this official. This Is limiting the out-put materially. Movements of shipments have been so slow and unreliable that orders placed for additional supplies may arrive when needed, or may not. Prices of these articles are now
28 ACRES Good house, barn 20x40, 1 higher than was the case last yeai.
x'spiie many tuuuiuuus yumuue iu the contrary, It Is hoped that sugar will sell for a few cents less on the pound by canning time.
