PAGE TEN CARDS FALL WITH A CRASH BEFORE REDS; SCORE YESTERDAY, 2-0 CINCINNATI. July 1. It has been the role of the Cincinnati Reds to hook up with their nearest rivals for first place when these said rivals were going at top speed. Way back in" May the Pittsburg Pirates were skimming along like a house afire. Then came the Reds and the Pirates dropped from first place. The Cubs started raising things in general about this time and it toon the Champs to take the pennant prospects from them. Then the Reds walloped Brooklyn from first place and assumed the place themselves. And now St. Louts has been turned down. The Cards broke even in the six game series, however. The last game of the series was won by the Reds. 2 to 0. Chief credit for the game must be given to Walter Reuther, as the crack southpaw pitched a masterful game. He was given support par excellence at all times, however. Reuther had to be good, as Jess Haines of the Cards, was equally well in form. He allowed the Champs but 4 hits and no walks. An error, sacrifice and hit gave the Reds their rst run. A triple by Allen ajid a sacrifice fly by Reuther scored him. The Cards did not gt a man to first base after the first inning. the Suburban league are the main contenders. Hagerstown is not in the Suburban league. By virtue of the hundreds of men employed at the Teetor-Hartley Motor company at Hagerstown. good ball players are plentiful. The Motor company is also willing to hirf good ball players from other towns. The Richmond Eagles are supposed to represent the pick of baseball talent in Richmond. Thus, Richmond and Hagerstown consider themselves the most logical contenders for the championship of the county. Brehm Puts in Claim. George Brehm, president of the Suburban league, is anxious to have hjs league considered in when picking the county champ. He suggests that the winner of the Suburban league cup be counted as a contender. The Richmond Giants, in their turn wonder just "where they come in". George Brehm again comes to th front with a suggestion that Wayne county could have a little world's series all its own this fall. Brehm believes the Eagles, Hagerstown, winners of the Subruban league and the Richmond Giants should get together and settle the championship dispute in action rather than on paper.

The drenching downpour of Wednesday caused the ball field to be a slippery mass of mud The hundreds that trampled the infield part of the outer gardens Wednesday, chopped the ground into ruts. Haas says that although the players may Blip and fall in occasional ruts, a crood game will be forthcoming. Hamilton possesses a strong aggregation. Proof was given when an even break was made with the strong C. N. B. team in May. However, the C. N. B. aggregation is not thought by Richmond fans to have anything on the Eagles. Minner probably will start the game

against Hamilton. When he 6tarts. he usually finishes. Hawekotte may have to await another game before strutting his stuff from the hurling line.
