TNEXT WEEK AT THE HEATER'S
WASHINGTON. .. There is one character in Vivian Martin's new Paramount-Artcraft screen comedy, "His Official Fiance." showing at the Washington theatre Saturday whose name does not appear on the list of the oast. He is called "Skip," and is a full blooded Airedale terrier. He appears In everal scenes In the picture, and it was his screen debut. He was a howling, bow-wowing success .For ten days he was on hand early every morning and worked like a beaver while the camera man cranked. Yet his master would not take a cent for his services, despite the fact that good "atmosphere dogs" are worth five dollars a day, while high class canines draw more. The owner is Forrest Stanley, Miss Martin's leading man In the picture. "The dog comes with me," Stanley explained. "Hire me, hire my dog, alt at the same price." Nevertheless, the studio officials inisted that the dog b rewarded. So "Skip" was presented with a beautiful new collar and It was fastened upon him with appropriate ceremony. WA9HINGT0N. Doris May and Douglas MacLean, recent acquisition to the ranks of the motkm picture stars, are"the life of the party" out at the bly Ince studio these tumultuous days. Miss May is only 17 years old, and Mr. McLean is a youth in his early twenties. Happiness is their middle names. Mr. McLean insisted upon his dressing room being papered with a bluebird design, and amuses himself and others between scenes by playing the ukelele and singing popular airs in a most jaz&ful manner. He was a member of a college glee club and possesses a pleasant voice. Miss May
breezes in every morning with a big bouquet of beautiful California flowers and presents everybody with one for their buttonholes. High spirits and wholesome fun are the chief ingredients of "What's Your Husband Doing?" the new screen farce in which this delightful pair are featured. It is a picturizatlon of a well known Broadway farce and will be hown at the Washington theatre for three days, beginning tomorrow. The film was produced by Thomas H. Ince for Paramount-Artcraft. MURRAY VAUDEVILLE. There are two good comedy acts and a novelty act booked for the Murray the first half of next week, opening Monday matinee. Kelly and Post are two comedians who have won their spurs on the big-time circuits Lubln and Lewis, two male comedians, use for their billing "Colored, but Not Born That Way."On the same bill will be Jewel Busse with a troupe of canine performers who are skilled In the art of entertaining. Corinne Griffith will be the screen attraction in her latest five-reel Vitagraph production, "The Garter Girl," repicting the romance of an actress. MURRAY. Frank Coltiletti, the little New York Jockey who proved to be the riding sensation of the winter racing season at New Orleans, will be seen for the last time Sunday at the Murray theatre, during the showing of "The Sporting Duchess." Alice Joyce Is starred In the production
The racing scenes were taken at the fair grounds in New Orleans when the racing season was at its height. The race in which Cllpston wins the Derby was a special attraction. Sev
eral well known horses and jockeys rode. So thrilling was the race that many of the players wanted to bet on the outcome. After the scene was finished Coltiletti admitted that It was a real race and that he only won by a close margin. Alice Joyce has a strong emotional role, in which she has the bearing of a duchess and proves to be a girl of no mean ability. "The Garter Girl," which will be seen at the Murray theatre the first half of the week, is one of Corinne Griffith's best efforts. It is a story that will appeal to thousands of picture fans throughout the country because of its theatrical and rural atmosphere Miss Griffith has a role that calls for great diversity of action and characteriation From the care free headliner on a vaudeville bill to the prim little soloist in the village church is quite a jump and calls for versatility. Miss Griffith rises to great heights In her interpretation of the role. Her personality, her mannerisms and attractive gowns lend themselves well to the portrayal of Rosaile Ray, the girl who left the stage to go to the country in search of a real man, a man unlike those who hang around the stage door. She found that all men were alike. Miss Griffith had several gowns created especially for her use in "The Garter Girl." They are distinctly feminine and present the star at her best. She makes an exceptionally clever vaudeville performer. RICHMOND "The Honor System" the powerful and spectacular drama of human interest which William Fox will present
at the Richmond Theater next Sunday, deals with one of the most vital and perplexing questions of the present day and alms right at the hearts of the people. In the big production will be shown the individual In a tragic battle against the forces of society. The story Is a stirring and absorbing one. A number of the scenes were taken in Arizona and California near the Mexican frontier, and one, showing a raid by Pancho Villa and his bandits on a border town, actually beggars description. An all-star cast will be seen in this production, including Gladys Brock-
well, Miriam Cooper, George Walsh and Milton Sills. MURRETTE Keeping the secret of a clandestine love affair of a friend nearly proves the undoing of the happiness of Polly Hopkins, played by Mildred Harris Chaplin in "Polly of the Storm Country," to be eeen at the Murrette Theater for the last time Saturday. Evelyn Robertson, who some years before had been secretly married to an uncouth farmer, Oscar Bennett, loves Marcus MacKenzie. rich landowner and enemy of the squatters. Rather than betray this knowledge, Polly risks the loss of the man she loves. Some of the most beautiful settings, both out-doors and interior, are shown in Anita Stewart's greatest picture, "The Yellow Typhoon." which will be shown at the Murrette Theater the first half of next week. The settings include beautiful country estates in New York, great New York hotels, chateaux of Paris, Paris
hotels and fashionable cafes and gambling places, scenes from Shanghai, Manila, Washington, London and the famous watering places of Europe. There are also beautiful scenes aboard ship, and wonderful scenes of the sea Itself. In fact there is a wealth of beautiful scenery and background for one of the most fascinating and thrilling pictures ever presented.
