STORM CLOUDS (Continued from Page One) committee and the general prediction today was that he would be chosen to that position with little opposition. Some of the anti-administration managers had not abandoned hope, however, that they might combine their forces to elect some one else. Chairman Cummings said today that it still was an open question whether the adoption of the platform or the choice of a nominee would come first on the convention platform. The prospect of a prolonged fight in me committee over prohibition and perhaps some other subjects has led to movement to go ahead with balloting while the committee sits. The usual order is to dispose of the platform first, however, and the general feeling seemed to be that custom will be followed. Deadlock Looked For. Such talk as there was today regarding candidates seemed to strengthen the prospects of a deadlock for several ballots. Some of those in the inner circle of plans said it was hard to conceive how the twothirds necessary to nominate could be brought into one column for two or three roll calls at least, and they punned ,out tnat if two or thre candidates divided the bulk of the voting strength among them, favorite sons and dark horses would be encouraged to prolong the deadlock by holding to their balance of power. In the generally accepted view, the withdrawal of William G. McAdoo will operate to make a deadlock more likely by distributing more or less widely the strength which had been lined behind him. Some thought, however, that a considerable following would vote for him, despite his public withdrawal, while the most enthusiastic of the McAdoo supporters still were predicting that he would be the nominee. GREAT FALLS, Mont.. June 23. Speaking before several hundred people here last night, William Jennings Bryan declared that no candidate who stood against the policy of prohibition should be nominated by the Democrats at San Francisco. Mr. Bryan will join the Montana

delegation enroute to San Francisco, at Butte this morning. The Forum (All articles for this column moat not xced 200 words. Contributor mast sign their names, although the nam will be wlthhald by th management . at the request of t4 writer. Articles having no nam attached will be thrown into the waste backet.) Editor of Palladium: I want to comment and express my appreciation and thanks for the excellent and timely editorial of Monday the 21st instant, upon carnival companies and I would be glad if every citizen of Richmond could read and thoughtfully consider it. The very name and definition of carnival ought to be sufficient to cause our city authorities to refuse to license such a menacing exhibition in Richmond. And I think this was done until some city club or organization by promising the mayor and chief of police nothing improper 6houId be permitted, succeeded in getting a license and then brought the carnival here upon the club's responsibility, the latter to receive a stipulated portion of the gate receipts. These promises have not been kept and the only way to get rid of this "carnival nuisance" lis for the city authorities to reruse their admission into the city. I I commend the following from anI other Richmond editorial: I "If an organization in Richmond needs help it would be much better to ask for it directly than to encourage the rowdyism and the gambling and the roughness of these carnivals which take good money out of tfce town and give nothing worth while in return. "The controller ought to pay some respect to public opinion." Respectfully, TIMOTHY NICHOLSON. Palladium Want Ads Pay. ee 9th Street .J 46 MONEY TO LOAN 46
