Indiana at the Convention

Even if Massachusetts looms large in the de

liberations of the Republican national conven

tion, we cannot well escape the fact that Indiana

is taking no mean part in the discussions of

that body and in the shaping of the policies that

will bring either victory or defeat to the party,

The chairman of the national committee is an Indiana man, and credit for the rejuvenation of the party is given to Will Hays by almost

every fair-minded Republican. The absence, vis ibly at least, of many of the objectionable fea

tures of past national conventions is directly attributable to him, say close observers of political

events.

The effort of A. J. Beveridge to obtain the

permanent chairmanship indicates that Indiana believed she had an opportunity of landing the

post. The fight which the former senator and

his friends put up kept Indiana in the forefront during the early hours of the big meeting. Sen

ator Watson was able to obtain the chairmanship

he sought. His victory was an easy one, and

seemed to show that the leaders of the party have faith in his judgment and ability to handle

successfully the perplexing problems that this committee must consider.

Many minor officers are held by Hoosiers. One need glance only at the number of Hoosiers listed as doorkeepers and sergeants-at-arms, insignificant to be sure, but nevertheless indica

tive of the political strength of the state, for

thousands of Republicans from all parts of the

country sought the appointments, using every ounce of pull they could command. When the convention is closed and the Democrats have chosen their leaders and written their platform, Indiana will again become the battleground of the two parties. Always regarded as

GAPS It wasn't meant that should run smoothly all Human nature the most

thing in the world was made fallible.

Our whole life experience is broken into by gaps things which we have missed, things which have meant disappointment to us, and things which didn't come to pass at all. A really good road is much more appreciated after running over a very rough one. And that is the way it is with the gaps that make up every one of our lives. They may bother us a lot, and cause us great anxiety but they also make us think, and plan, and re-consider. If we didn't pass thru the gaps of darkness and misunderstanding, there would be littlo impetus given us to rise higher and higher. And then to fill up your gaps, to keep improving the road over which you tread from day to day, means a happier ending of each stage along the way a greater, finer trail that you have blazed when all is clone. ' That heart must indeed be poorly nourished which cannot feel its gaps in longings for better things, for a correction of mistakes and errors, and for a solidifying of purpose and effort. Gaps had to be, you see so that Nature's breath might cast its fragrance abroad, and there might be meaning to the stars, and reason for smiles and kindness. You know how it is to have your own gaps filled. Try. then, to lessen the gaps in the hearts and lives of those whom you know and love. It is the things which you lack to which you may aspire!

When A. G.. Emerson, 918 Portsmouth street, Cincinnati, O., a street car conductor, got over the influenza recently, he was so weak and run down that for edght weeks he couldn't do a bit of work. Mr. Emerson took Vola-Tonic, "Builder of Strength," and says he is now feeling like a different man and is able to work every day. "I was so weak when I got over the influenza that I couldn't even walk two squares," Mr. Emerson said. "If I did try to walk even as short a distance as two squares, I'd be so tired out afterward that I'd have to go to bed. For eight weeks I didn't do a bit of work. "My appetite was almost gone entirely and I didn't enjoy any of the food a bit that I tried to force down.

"I kept reading In the newspapers about Vola-Tonic and what it had done for other people, and finally I decided to try it. "Before all of the first bottle of Vola-Tonic was gone I began to feel

better. My appetite came back and

then I started getting stronger. "I kept on taking Vola-Tonic and now feel like & different man and am back at my work every day. "Vola-Tonic surely is a real 'Builder of Strength' and helps health in every way, and I am glad to recommend it." Vola-Tonic, "Builder of Strength." is being specially introduced in Richmond at the five Qulgley drug stores and is sold by one leading druggist in cities and towns all over this section. Dinner Stories

He had always suggested that he was much too good a player to indulge in billiards with inferior players, but

ping the cloth!

At the end of the game some kind of excuse was necessary. "Of course," he explained, "this table is not full size only about a quarter the proper Bize, in fact. I couldn't possibly play my proper game on It." But the table, as it happened, was full size, and one of the club members became annoyed. "I understand, sir. As a matter of fact, this isn't our billara tables only one of our card tables. They've got the real billard table in the next room, so we can't use it. They are playing a football match on it!"

"I heard that pretty little woman say the other day that she was going to make her Billy's life perfectly hap py. She must be very much In love with her husband." "That wasn't her husband she was talking about; it was her pet "poodle"

AT LAST THE PERFECT LAXATIVE Medical research has finally produced the actual vegetable equivalent of the mercurial ' salt, Calomel. You owe it to yourself to try them. Take one every night for awhile watch the re-5nlfs.

Besides, it is difficult for us to

write an unprejudiced article on the subject. So, we have only the following to say: And we guess we won't say 1L The Adriatic question has'been settled, and we won't have to worry about that again until possibly next Smith doesn't care to be vice-president. Somebody has got to do it. Isn't there a patriot left in the land? ' Perhaps the Democrats will ask Mr. Bryan to check his dry plank at the door when entering the convention. The revolution in Mexico is all over, but during the intermission fighting will go on as usual. Having retired as a bandit, Villa ought to do real well a3 a respectable profiteer. It is being bruited about that the lead pencil trust invented the Income tax.

GREAT BENEFITS FOR LOCAL MAN Declares his liver is now active, stomach digests his food, pains in his back all gone. Has no more headaches or dizzy spells and feels "fit" since taking Dreco, the great herbal remedy. It is a well known fact that the failure of the human system to eliminate its waste matter gives rise to more suffering, disease and shortening lives than any single cause. The bowels must be kept moving daily, the kidneys must filter the poisons from the blood and throw them off and the liver must secrete its juices properly to aid in this operation and also to help the stomach carry Its load. Dreco, the great herbal tonic, acts on the bowels, kidneys, liver and stomach in an effective and pleasing manner. "Since taking the great herb and root remedy, Dreco, I am feeling greatly improved," stated Mrs. Luther Irvine, living at 730 South Thirteenth street, Richmond, Ind. I had suffered from a lazy liver which gave me dizzy spells; I had n dull, aching pain in my back over my kidneys; I became very nervous so that I never got a good night's rest. My stomach seemed unable to digest my food thoroughly for it gave me nausea, pains, and gas would fill

me up. '"I must say that Dreco has entirely relieved me and I no longer suffer as before, but feel full of energy and vitality. Dreco is truly the great medicine that I heard it was." All good druggists now sell Dreco and it is highly recommended in Richmond by Clem Thistlethwaite's seven drug stores. Advertisement.
