THERE'S ERRAND COST?

COST OF EVERYTHING

What has become of the school boy that could be sent on an errand by a 1usy housewife for a penny or two? "Where Is the washer-woman that could be had any time In the week at the promise of 50 or 75 cents for her work? Can anyone locate the man that begged to do your lawn up In great 6hape for a very modest sum? Wondering about those grand old times, the writer started out to get the solution and guarantees, that If any one can answer the questions: "Where is the sugar that sold at five cents a pound? the potatoes at 50 cents a bushel? the bread at five and 10 cents a loaf? that he will then tell

where the willing worker at a moder

Have you tried to get the boy next door to run up town for you with the promise that you will give him a jenny when he returns? Try it.

You'll be surprised.

Of course he can't be blamed, because almost any old enough to do

any work can secure odd jobs during

his vacation and make as much as the experienced clerk used to make with

his nose close to the grind stone. But He Don't Publish It.

One citizen of Richmond was telling

of his trials with his washer-woman, he lowered his voice to a cautious

level and with a marked note of self

admiration told how skillfully he

handled his affairs.

When he got to the point where he

expressed himself unfavorably with Fhort hours and big price, he looked

pround as guiltily as a Bolshevist

Q There is one thing sure however, pnd that is that local residents have

rot been pestered with persons hav

ing a hard luck story and a new brand

of needles for 10 cents.

Our barn is unusually free from the

well known chalk crosses which tell

some other pard that a good feed can

be had for the asking. 'Tis an ill wind

that blows no one some good.

MURRETTE To get the desired realism, scenes

from Charles Ray's new picture, "Red

Hot Dollars," at the Murrette Theatre,

were made inside a big iron foundry near Los Angeles. Between "shots,"

Charlie conversed genially with some of the regular workmen. Knowing the star's fondness for athletics and various feats of strength, one of the laborers led him to a huge sledpe hammer and made a small wager with the actor that he couldn't lift it. Charlie went at his task cheerfully enough, but after several minutes' effort found, to his surprise, that he couldn't budge the sledge, though it looked to be perfectly normal size. He looked around to find a broad grin on some of the workmen's faces and grew suspicious. "Has this sledge been 'doped up"? he demanded. "Yep," admitted the workman who had made the bet. "Three men couldn't move it. "We prepared it 'special to win lunch money from husky visitors like you." MURRAY Harry T. Morey, the star in "The

Flaming Clue," which will be shown at Murray theater, the last half of the veek, thought that he would enjoy being a detective until he made the picture. Now he believes that acting is good enough for him. He was forced to travel over the dusty roads, through swamps and underbrush in three states, work around lime kilns in Westchester, Pa., and carry all sorts of disguises in his pockets while making the picture. In addition to this he was forced to learn how to use suction climbers, deform himself into a hunchback, handle a sound magnifying disc, use a pocket periscope and do a score of other

things. Before commencing the picture he studied with a famous New York detective in order to present a character true to life. Mr. Morey makes It a
