Honoring John E. Bundy
When the Earlham college faculty conferred upon John E. Bundy an honorary degree, only given by that institution for exceptional merit, his many friends in Richmond commended the step. Mr. Bundy is an artist of note, and, like most men who obtain eminence in art, he had to strug
gle many long years before recognition crowned: his efforts. Mr. Bundy's name is a household word in Richmond. His pictures are appreciated by thousands who have seen them exhibited in the public art gallery or are fortunate enough to own one or two of them. Richmond feels proud to know that Earlham singled out an artist for the signal honor. We believe it is the first time in the history of the institution that it has given an honorary degree to a man who has devoted his whole life to the presentation of the beautiful in nature. Usually
honors of this kind go to men who have accomplished great things in other walks of life or
who have made a contribution to the fund of
knowledge. The singling out of an artist for the
degree makes it doubly worth while to the re
eipient, especially so since Earlham has rightly
adopted a policy of granting few honorary de grees.
Today's Talk By George Matthew Adams
THE FEELING OF INADEQUACY To walk humbly and respectfully before the great forces of Nature and Life, is to present oneself in an attitude of strength, with the willingness to do one's part in meeting the great itaues of responsibility. Sometimes so deeply do we feel the opportunities that we inherit, that to ourselves, at least, we appear inadequate before them. And that is a good sign. Most of the great decisions of the world the decisions that have affected humanity most at its heart were made when thoso under the necessity of making them, had come to realize their utter inadequacy. When the fact of the Crucifixion was assured, tho man around whom it all revolved withdrew to Oethsemane and there prayed. History records that Washington did the same thing at Valley Forge, when it seemed as
tho his own powers had to have rein-1 forcement. Lincoln did tho same thing during the trying years of Civil War. i
And the story is told of soldiers during the late Great War who saw Marshall Foch kneeling in obscure nie churches, away from the battle liiX, earnestly praying for guidance. You have to feel inadequate in order ever to become adequate. And it matters not whether your task Is simple and ordinary, or fraught with heavy results. To be adequate is to do the best that you know how for the combined best of all of us is tne best of the world.

o'clock?" asked Bibbleton. "I saw you about midnight." "Was I er attracting undue attention to myself?" "I wouldn't call it undue attention, considering the circumstances. You were marching down the street with your arms around two newsboys and lustily singing, 'Over There.' " The youth seated himself in the dentist's chair. He wore a wonderful striped silk shirt and an even more wonderful checked suit. He had the vacant stare that so often goes with both. "I am afraid to give him gas," the dentist said to his assistant. "Why?"
Answers to Questions
K. C. B. Why does thunder always
follow lightning? Thunder always follows lightning because the electric
discharge, as it breaks its way through the atmosphere, instantaneously heats the air in its path. This rudden heating causes violent ex
plosions of the air along the path of the lightning flash and a violent com
pression of the cool air farther away. This process starts a great air wave, which is the thunder. When a lightuing flash occurs near by, the sharp cracking reports come from its branches, and the heavy crash comes from the trunk of the flash. Subscriber How fast will money double itself? since he gets good sleep every night. Has big appetite and stomach digests fully. Rheumatism relieved.
Big improvement in local man since he took Dreco, the great root and herb remedy. The plan of advertising the new medicine Dreco is so open and above board and shows such honesty of purpose on the part of the owners, it is small wonder that Dreco has sprung into such popular favor everywhere it is introduced. You frequently read the testimonials printed by medicine companies from persons living in distant cities but with Dreco we print the testimonials from persons residing close by, many right here in the city, giving their street address, so if every word you read about Dreco was not true, we would soon be exposed. Here is one of the recent statements received from a responsible home town man. He is Mr. J. Gregg, resident of Richmond, Ind., and says: "Dreco has surely done me a lot of good. My liver is active again so that I don't have that tired, drowsy, no-account feeling nor dizzy spells. The pains in my limbs, arms and back are all gone. THE reputation of Midwest engineering and of Midwest products has carried to the remotest countries of the globe. In the rice fields of Japan you will find pumps made by the Anderson branch of the Midwest Engine Company, driven by Midwest dependable power. Midwest steam turbines drive American merchant vessels. Midwest oilburning engines are doing duty in all waters and under many flags. In the mines of Siberia, South America and Mexico, Midwest prime movers drive dependable Midwest pumps. The volume of Midwest equipment sold here in America, however, exceeds Midwest exports. Midwest produced 634,850 horse power during the war.
Every loyal Hoosier should know these facts in order that he may speak knowingly about this big Indiana manufacturing institution. Since the war Midwest has developed the Utilitor, a farm motive unit of vital importance to food raisers the world over, and a heavy duty, high speed engine that has met with such general approval among truck and tractor builders that even Midwest's capacity is taxed to the utmost to meet resulting demand. Today Midwest ranks high among the world's best and largest producers of motive power. Its industrial importance is being internationally recognized. Its power is helping drive civilization forward.
