Don't Carry Much Pocket Money

A most practical suggestion toward helping straighten out the tangles in the economic situa

tion is given in the current issue of Forbes

Magazine (N. Y.) This suggestion is simply that

everyone get into the habit of emptying his pockets weekly and take every dollar he can and put

it to work for him in the bank.

This practice, more rife today than ever be

fore, of carrying around large amounts of cur

rency is an economic crime, says Forbes Magazine. It tends to increase the costs of living. It checks the "development of the nation's resources.

It reduces the banks' ability to furnish credit to

the industrial and business world. It forces in

terest rates up. It fosters caution, even pessim

ism, among the banking fraternity,, the holders

of the nation's purse strings. And it hurts the workman by reducing the amount of business which could and would be done were money and credit more plentiful in banking channels. It will hasten the business depression which nearly nil experts declare is bound to come sooner or later. And, consequently, it makes for unemployment.

If everybody in America were to carry around $28 it would represent a sum greater than all the gold in the. land. It would more than equal half the total currency in circulation in the United States. Expressed thus, the crime of . withdrawing money uselessly from banking and business

channels by carrying unnecessarily large amounts m the pockets becomes as clear as day. Therefore, don't do it.

Answers to Questions

I the American tourist. "Why, In one of

cur museums we have the lead pencil

that Noah used to check off the animals as they came out of the ark."

Following Your Own Principles Too many of us are influenced by what "they are doing, saying, or wearing." The "they" being the majority or the others that make up the circle of acquaintances or friends. Why not be actuated by what "I" believe is right, appropriate or in keeping? Why not lay out the plans of your life along right lines, adhere to them, and courageously ignore the folly, mistakes and wrong conceptions of life, of the hundreds of "theys?"

Independence of determination, of action, of thought, word and speech does not mean that

you are eccentric, self-centered, or snobbish. It implies that you have the manhood and woman

hood to direct your own life in channels you

know are true and in keeping with your own sta

tion in this world.

The "theys" too often induce you to indulge

in extravagances, luxuries, follies and whims because you haven't the courage and resolute moral backbone to say no. What a lot of time, money

and worry would be saved if we guided our own

destinies and refused to ape after the "theys!"

How much happier we would be if the control!

ing factor of our lives would be our own wills , and not the seductive influences of others !

Augustine Birrell some time ago,

while traveling in a third-class railway carriage in the north of England, sat

Oliver P. Morton, on the court house lawn. v Tag day was observed in an effort to raise $12,000 to pay off the debt incurred by the purchase of a children's orphans home at Hadley, by the Children's Home Society of Indiana. Prof. C. W.'Knouff, principal of the

down hurriedly next to a little girl in ' h'sh school administered the paddle to

shawl and clogs. Happening to glance at her a moment or two afterward, he saw that she was regarding him with

no great favor. It dawned upon him

that he was sitting on her newspaper.

"Here, my dear," said Mr. Birrell, pulling the paper from under him and handing It to her, "I'm sorry." The little girl did not look quite satisfied, but she said nothing till a few minutes later the train drew up at a station. "Please, sir," she then inquired, weakly, "may I have my fried fish? It was in the paper.

Many Richmond automobilists and lovers of fast driving left for the races at the Indianapolis speedway. A Westcott motor car was entered in the free for all and was attracting much local attention.

. . i ONLY A FARMER! One of tho finest letters of encouragement I ever received, was signed, "Only a Farmer." " To my way of thinking, the farmer Is one of the world's greatest benefactors. I like farmers. For three years I worked with them out on the farm, and I learned to admire their fine and sturdy characters, their splendid qualities of patience - and patriotism. I place a farmer and a carpenter alongside of each other One is a creator and the other a builder. No matter what comes up, the farmer is always ready to do his part. He keeps no office hours. His joy is 1o do a day's work. And we owe a lot to the farmer for the way in which he does that day's work because, without him. what kind of a breakfast would we sit down to? What would wo do at the close of our work-day were we ot to be rebuilded dally by the fruita of his toil? Only a farmer! I wish they would put more of them into the halls of congress and as advisors to those who rule. Their common sense and practical straight-forwardness would help along. I envy the farmer his playground, the smell of the soil, the fragrance of the flowers and the concerts of the birds. And I envy him his daily toil with the dumb beasts which help hisi to perform his work so faithfully. It was a farmer who took tho helm at one of the most critical "periods in the history of England Oliver Cromwell. They were farmer"boy8 who

rallied at Lexington and Concord.

We always enjoy reading college comic publications. We especially enjoy it when they publish extracts from this column bodily without credit Then, when the extracts are republished by "Judge," with credit to the college publication, we have a chance to enjoy them all over again. So far as is known, the pleasure is all ours. We feel in duty bound to say that this

does not in any way refer to the Columbia "Jester." The "Jester" has its own corps of writers, and is the best college paper in America. THE TIME, YOU WILL RECALL, IS MONEY. The automobile is a great timesaver, as it does not take you much longer to find a place to park it than it would to walk downtown and then you have it to go back in, if you can remember where it was and it hasn't been stolen. 'Ohio State Journal. If any man really wants to be vice president, he is a patriot and ought to have the job. If we ever own a racehorse we are going to call him Gas Meter and nothing will ever beat him.

Householders in GreatBritain are barred from entertaining their mothers-in-law, or other guests, longer than four weeks by an order from the ministry of food.

The Rev. Mr. James R. Connor, widely known minister and author, journalists and publicity, of Cincinnati, Ohio, recently made an investigation of Vola-Tonic "Builder of Strength." He called on Cincinnati reople whose testimonials about VolaTonic appeared in the Cincinnati papers to hee if the statements that appeared there were true. Finding the testimonials true in every respect, tho Rev. Connor took Vola-Tonic himself and has been greatly benefitted. "I kept reading in the newspapers about Vola-Tonic. and was so impressed that I decided to find out about this medicine," the Rev. Mr. Connor said. "So I kept the names and addresses of several Cincinnati people who had made statements about Vola Tonic and I called on these people. "After the first call I was fully convinced that Vola-Tonic must be a good medicine, but I made several more calls. Then I decided ta take Vola-Tonic myself.

"I have only taken a small quantity of Vola-Tonic now, but it has done wonders for me. For four or five years my nerves have been out of order and have been getting worse. My daughters are musicians and the noise of the music annoyed me. And noise during the night, too, would wake me up and usually I lost three to four hours sleep during the night. "Vola-Tonic has improved my nerves a great deal and has proved to be such a good medicine that I am glad to recommend it to others." This statement from a man of 6uch prominence fully proves the merits of Vola-Tonic. If you are feeling weak and run down, get Vola-Tonic TODAY. Vola-Tonic Is sold in Richmond by the five Quigley drug stores, and by one leading druggist in cities and towns all over this section. Advertisement.

lacking in a nourishing, health

givingsubstance called vitamines, which is absolutely essential to build muscle, tissue and brain. No wonder that without this nourishment, one out of every three children becomes weak, puny and anaemic fails to reach proper weight t nd development and is constantly dull, nervous and fretful. But it is not their own fault if they are backward in their studies, restless at -night, sallow complexioned and apparently lacking in energy to help around the house. Through cooking, canning and baking as well as by the peeling of vegetables most of the health-giving vitamines are lost from such everyday foods as white bread, potatoes, turnips, carrots, polished rice, boiled or pasteurized milk, pickled and salted meats and many others. So even three hearty meals a day with plenty of fresh air and exercise are not enough to make strong tissue, firm flesh and active brains if the foods do not contain plenty of vitamines, and as a result there n signs of weakness, fatigue and general lassitude. In order to make up for this lack in eur everyday foods and supply the vital elements the system must have to over

come weakness and build vigorous health, physicians are now pr cribing vitamines in concentrated tablet form known as Vitamon. When taken along

with meals three times a day, VUamoa provides exactly what the system needs. It helps put the natural peach--bloom glow of health in the cheets and send streams of strength and energy flowing through the bodies that need assistance to reach the full physical development which Nature intended they 1 attain. Not only for the young and growing are vitamines needed to build health and strength, but they are equally needed by parents who are weakeneu. run-down and lacking in energy, without knowing the real reason why. Vitamines, as contained in Vitamon, represent that substance lost from most everyday foods which is absolutely necessary to build up the tissues as fast as they shrink and die out and to promote a powerful -resistance against disease. A remarkably beneficial effect is usually produced in a very short space of time. In fact, the tremendous health value of Vitamon as a true tonic, nerve and tissue builder is becoming so generally recognized that its use promises to quickly become worldwide. Results in every case are absolutely guaranteed by a refund of the purchase price. Vitamon may be obtained in this city from all good druggists, including Thistlethwaite's Drug Stores, A. G. Luken & Co., Quigley's Drug Stores, Fosler Drug Co. Advertisement.
