Better Pay for Postal Employes A determined effort is under way to obtain better pay for postal employes, and it is the sincere wish of the public that congress act justly and quickly. The postoffice department is operated for the service of the public. When the service is impaired because the government, which controls the department, fails to remedy
weaknesses and faults, the public is entitled to
voice its protest and demand remedial legislation. The public has enough information to know that the hard working and efficient members of this branch of the federal service are not receiving adequate remuneration, and cannot be criticized for quitting by the hundreds. The employes of the postoffice department are underpaid for the specialized service they perform. Their service is indispensable, for they keep open a channel of communication that is of the
seientious employes will cost the country infinitely more in money and dissatisfaction than the additional pay required to keep the men at their jobs performing a highly specialized service. The efficiency of the sendee depends upon its best men. If they keep on leaving by the thousands the service will soon be manned by inexperienced men, and, it is to be feared, by men who are vastly inferior to the ones now performing -the work.
The country should exert every effort to maintain the splendid organization of the postal
service. Salaries should be raised to the point that will enable the employes to keep their jobs and to be satisfied with their work.

Home Gardens It is not too late to start a home garden, says Supervisor Rice. If you have a vacant lot, put it under cultivation. The country is threatened with a serious food shortage. If an early frost should ruin the corn crop, suffering for lack of food will follow. The winning of the war did not remove the menace of decreasing crops. This year the farmer has been handicapped by lack of labor in putting out a large acreage. Delayed corn planting means a late corn crop,
and if an early frost nips the immature corn, its
yield will be greatly reduced

Mr. James -II. Allen suffered for years with rheumatism. Many times this terrible disease left him helpless and unable to work. lie finally decided, after years of ceaseless .study, that no one can be
free from rheumatism until the acv
cumulated impurities, commonly called uric acid deposits, were dissolv
ed in the joints aud muscles and expelled from the body. With this idea in mind he consulted physicians, made experiments and finally compounded a prescription that quickly aaid completely banished every sign and symptom of rheumatism lrom his system. He freely gave his discovery to others who took it, with what might be called marvelous success. After years of urging he decided to let sufferers everywhere know about his discovery through the newspapers. Your druggist has been appointed agent for Allenrhu in this vicinity with the understanding that he will freely return the purchase money on the first two bottles to all who state they received no benefit.
