The Diary of an Engaged Girl By Phyllis Phillips
J
Such a thrilling evening, such a dinner, and such dancing. To begin right from the beginning, I dressed about six o'clock, very slowly, for this was an event in my young life. Dreamdresses are not donned by Miss Nineteen every day, I can tell you. Aunt Cecilia bustled In and out for a while, while I was dressing my hair, and told me several times that I looked radiant. I love to hear that better than anything else, somehow. I decided to wear my hair quite low, and it did gleam and burn beautifully, and waved softly round my funny little face In the way I like it to do. I even let the stray curls wander at will at the nape of my neck, and close to one ear. This was wilful and deliberate on my part, for as a rule I pin all rebellious locks up sternly. Was trained to do that-a-way! Aunty sat down and watched me for a while, and then asked me casually what.dress I was wearing. I said a new one, and let it go at that. You see, I had it all figured out to a nicety. Jack due to call for me at six-thirty, new dress to be slipped into at sixtwenty, so that there could be no possible question of time to change same should orders to that effect come from the fi it. Besides I had a naughty desire ij burst upon Aunt Cecilia's vision just before leaving, and watch her expression as she saw my frock. It all worked out as it should. After prinking up to the last minute I took clown my scarlet surprise, and then slipped into it. It shivered dellciously against my body,' and I kissed the hem of it, as it descended from my shoulders; while it in turn caressed each curve that I am guilty of. I was made for that dress.
Heart Problems
Then I stood in front of my mirror, swaying slightly to the giddy reflection that dimpled and smiled back at me, and waited for Someone to catch me! Sure enough Aunt Cecilia came bumming into the room, and I heard a gasp I turned, as a young gypsy queen should turn, and looked at her provocatively. "My darling, you look perfectly beautiful, but that dress cannot be worn by you not out, not with Jack, Lindsey!" At this point her voice
trailed off into nothingness, and I stood and waited for the rest. She explained that Jack would be furious at my sophisticated get-up, despite its loveliness; that all men hated the women of their families to wear red In any shape, form or manner, and that I would Just have time to change into a decent (rock before my lover arrived. I was really peeved with aunty; she who - usually understands, but I saw that It was hopeless to make her this time; so I simply went up and shook her and told her she was an j old goose to be distressed about nothing. In the mid6t of my speech the bell rang and I knew that I just had time to descend and be whisked off by Jack. I descended, well covered by my evening cloak, which is of a safe old blue, with gold on it, so there was no chance for Jack to have any ad-; vance hysterics, even if he so wished. He saw nothing but my face, and caught me up in his arms and kissed me, then whirled me off to the snorting motor. Luck was with me for once, after all.
your difficulty. Of ..course, temper your frankness with kindness and politeness.
Dear Mrs. Thompson: I would like
to have little advice. I am a girl of j
l years old. I went with a fellow for about a month then we quit for about a month. Now he has come back, and says he will do anything in the wide world for me if I will just let him come. back. I love him and he loves me, but my folks do not like for me to go with him for he is about seven years older than I am. He wants to marry me. Undecided what to do, BL.ONDIE. Dear Blondie: I should suggest that you consider the question of disobeying your parents seriously. Learn why they do not approve of the young man, and then let me know. I can not answer you with this meager information. My Dear Perplexed: Your letter asking advice regarding the attentions of your employer is at hand. If he professes real interest In your "wholesome companionship," I'm sure he will appreciate the predicament in which you find yourself in accepting his kindnesses. Tell him quite frankly just what unhappiness the situation causes in the heart of your lover. Explain to him that you really love this young man, but that you rightly feel that you should not marry 'yet, but wait until you are both older,
and he has a better grip on life; that you- must keep on with your work. ! Then, I am sure he will understand the situation and not press his atten-;
tions. To ride with him occasionally should not, however, cause your sweetheart to be jealous. You can not have too many men friends who take a friendly interest in you. Such
friendships are always delightful. J Frankness is the only method out of 1

ALL GOOD DRUGGISTS
That Seldom -Used Piano
can be exchanged for an instrument that will give you wondrous music at any time, without having to wait for the musician of the home to come in and play. It is usually the case that there is only one musician in the home. When that one is absent, your piano is silent; and, if gone permanently, your piano is useless. You can have a Player Piano to use any time. It will furnish the finest music, and can be operated by anyone. Wouldn't you rather have an instrument which can be used and enjoyed by the whole family?
