Breaking the Tieup Business men and workers will welcome the efforts of the interstate commerce commission to break the freight blockade which had attained monumental proportions and equalled, in its menacing possibilities, the tieup that threatened our successful participation in the war a few years ago. Their weal and woe are intimately connected with the restoration of efficient freight sendee. Virtually all the state railway and public service commissions of the country have been asked by the interstate commerce commission to help get accurate data on freight congestion in their districts and to. co-operate in devising means to expedite the unloading of freight and the movement of cars. There is every indication that federal action is necessary to relieve the situation. Freight congestion on a gigantic scale involves not only the lessening of profits for manufacturers and business men, but also threatens the food supply and the wage earning capacity of the millions residing in the cities. As a direct result of the congestion the high cost of living has again soared skyward. Foodstuffs that should be moved over the roads, or removed from terminals, are still in the cars. Supplies are growing scarce and prices are soaring in proportion. That's one reason

why all people are directly affected by the situation. But it manifests itself in another highly important aspect. If the roads cannot move foodstuffs and commodities, factories are unable to obtain raw materials and to deliver the finished

We have an unregenerate friend by the name of Joe Hopkins of Flushing. About two weeks ago Joe bought a horse, one of the hatrack breed the tame being the only horse he ever owned in his life. He planned to use the horse to drive to his farm which is located on Great Neck bay, seveneighths of the farm being on the bay and one-eighth on land. After a week or two he fountl that it was necessary to do more than to crank his horse up and jump in the seat and steer his as he had been doing with his Ford. It was necessary to feed the beast, and Joe drove to Long Island City to get a bale of hay. When he got there the hay was so expensive that Joe compromised by buying a bale of shavings. Then he went to an optician and bought a large pair of green goggles and put them on the horse. Joe. horse and green goggles PIES ITCHED NIGHT AND DAY On Face and Neck. money tied up in finished products which they cannot deliver to their customers, the result being that they cannot collect pay for them. They are unable to borrow freely at the banks because of unsettled conditions, and consequently will be forced to close their plants. The railroads seem to be powerless. The full effects of the "outlaw" strike are beginning to be felt now, and, sorry to say, the people must again pay the price for the folly of the men who called an unwarranted and unjustifiable strike. When freight piles up at junction and terminal points, because of an interruption in switching facilities, it requires weeks to relieve the blockade. A strike of teamsters in the seaboard cities has aggravated conditions there. Thousands of cars are standing idle on sidings and in the seaboard yards waiting to be unloaded and returned to service. The tieup is costing the country millions a day. Production is being retarded, men are being thrown out of employment, prices are soaring. Gevernmental action is imperatively necessary to forestall dire consequences. . The lesson it teaches is that of the absolute necessity of co-operation of all classes to maintain a healthy industrial condition in the nation. If we persist in the policy of retarding production by strikes and avoidable interruptions we will soon undermine the stability of our industrial structure.

HANCOCK COUNTY MONTE CARLO RAIDED; KEEPER IS ARRESTED GREENFIELD. Ind., May 19. Four federal prohibition enforcement officers of Indianapolis and Chicago, Ora Myers, mayor of Greenfield; Charles Nigh, city marshal, and John Mulvihill, sheriff, conducted a raid on the house occupied by Mack Warrum, five miles west of Greenfield, known as the Mont Carlo of Hancock county yesterday morning. Although the raiders were disappointed in failing to find any liquor they found and destroyed several thousand dollars' worth of gambling paraphernalia. A faro bank outfit, elaborate roulette wheels, a stud poker table, poker chips, cards and dice were found. EARLHAM GRADUATE IS MADE POLICE CAPTAIN IN CAPITAL The board of public safety and the city are to be congratulated on the promotion of Lieut Herbert Fletcher to a captaincy in the police department. Criticism is often heard, and HEALTHY PEOPLE HAVE GOOD BLOOD Health and strength depend to a large extent upon the appetite and digestion, which have been discussed in previous announcements, but also depend to no less a degree upon the blood Pale, watery blood can't carry nutrition in proper quantities to organs and tissues of the body, and weakness and poor health follow. Strong, healthy people have rich, red blood capable of carrying nutrition to organs and tissues all over the body, thus keeping them strengthened and built up. If you are weak and run down and want to get back normal strength and health, look to your blood. The blood is to the human system what the big railway system is to America. Both are carriers of vital necessities. The railway system transports food supplies, building materials, all kinds of necessities hither and thither over the country, If rail operations are entirely suspended, catastrophe would quickly come. If transportation is partially curtailed, as has happened during "strikes", the nation quickly suffers. Similarly does the human system suffer and weaken when the blood becomes weak and emaciated. The blood in this condition is not able to carry nutrition in sufficient quantities to the organs and tissues of the body to keep them strengthened and built up. As a result, weakness and a general run down condition comes. Vola-Tonic. "Builder of Strength." builds up and enriches the blood and enables it to do its full work in a normal way. In addition, Vola-Tonic brings a good appetite and good digestion and soothes the nerves. Strength and health in every way is benefited and the weakened, run down man or woman feels better all over.
