Her condition became such that she was taken to the Reia Memorial hospital where she died about 8:00 p. m.. May 11th. 1920. At the time of her death she was 28 years 6 months and 5 days old. bne leaves her husband, two little girls, a mother. Mrs. Mary Warner, one sister, Kate, of Greenville. Ohio, three brothers. Robert D.. of Troy, O.. Oscar, of Chicago, and Glenn !.. of Akron, Ohio, besides numerous other relatives. Her father preceded her In death about eight years ago. Mrs. Shaffer was a woman that was well liked by everyone with whom she came In contact. None but good words were spoken of her; as a neighbor who was alwavs willing to do something for others. Her popularity is shown by the numerous friends she has in Greenville and by the ones she made during her five years residence in Richmond. It is Indeed sad that one so young and who Is go much needed here to care for her two little children had to be taken away. But it is God's will and we will have to abide by It. An abundance of sympathy Is extended to the grief-stricken husband, mother, sister and brothers. Oil, Thou, Who reignest enthroned In light. Whom heavenly hosts obey. Creation, owns Thy boundless might; Thou rulest with potent sway. Humbled beneath Thy wondrous power We at Thy footstool fall; Thine be this consecrated hour; Thine be our lives, our all. GAS QUESTION UP TO COMMISSION, NOT CITY, SAYS JOHNSON "The matter of revaluation of the gas company's property and a revision of rates la up to the Public Service Commission, and not the city council," Nimrod Johnson, of the Richmond Light, Heat and Power company, said Tuesday morning. Council Monday night announced a determination to fight any proposed rise In gas rates. "The property of the gas company was valued at $450,000 In 1915 a ridiculously low figure, according to expert gas men who are disinterested," said Mr. Johnson. "Now the tax board comes along and values our property tor taxation at $700,000. That's all right. We paid it." "But e feel that we are entitled to earn a seven per cent dividend on that amount instead of the figure at which the plant was valued In 1915. We have had practically to double our salaries and wages paid for labor. Material ia costing us 200 per cent more than it did a few years ago." Couldn't Operate on 7 Per Cent "Very few private corporations could operate on a seven per cent margin of profit," declared Mr. Johnson. "They have gone about making their increases to meet the increased costs. The difference is that a public utility must go before a tribunal." "Just as long as there Is one foot . of natural gas here we will continue to serve it to our patrons, but when that is gone we will have to manufacture artificial gas." "We are confronted with the problem of refinancing. The commission will want to know on the first of September how we are going to do that financing." "A revaluation of property ia one of the ways, and is our answer to th commission and it is up to them and not the council or the mayor." High School Important plans for commencement, week were discussed at .a meeting of the sc-nior class Tuesday. Practice for the Spanish play was held in high school auditorium Tuesday morning. Rehearsals indicate this play will be one of the most eussessful of its kind ever held in the high school.
