DEAF CHILD ESCAPES INJURY; WANDERS ON WINCHESTER TRACK WINCHESTER, Indiana. May 15. The two and a half year old deaf child of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Met.-waa found Friday morning in the east"?art of the

city, playing along the traction track. The tot was turned over to Chief Fletcher, who was unable to make it answer any questions. It took several hours for the police to locate the child's parents, and it was then found that he child was deaf. Firm Dissolves. The undertaking firm of Clark, Maynard and Thomas, has dissolved partnership. John W. Maynard is now proprietor of the Winchester business, while R. Thomas has become sole owner of the business at Lynn. Ernest Clark will remain here and engage in other business. Nichols Released. ennls Nichols has been released on $2,000 bond, with John H. Nichols, of Muncie, and Willis Hodge, as his sureties. Hia attorney Thomas Miller, accompanied by some women, came to this city, Thursday, and took him back to Muncie. Nichols is one of the persons charged with robbing the Oliphnnt store at Losantville. Mrs. Crick Dead. Mrs. Geneva Crick. 74, is dead at her home at Pikeville, Dark County. Ohio from the effects of a nervous breakdown. She Is survived by a son and daughter. Mrs. Carpenter Dies.

Mrs. Susanah Carpenter, 77. is dead at her home in Union City, from the infirmities of old age. Propose Gas Plant. W. W. Goodrich, of this city, one of the owners of the Union Heat, Light and Power Company, haB reqt ted an pudience with directors of the Cornet mercial Association, for the purpose of Qf discussing plans for the new artificial p,as plant. The plant will be located In this city, and will supply gas for Portland, Union City and Winchester. Hospital About Finished. The Randolph County Hospital is bearing completion, the new addition 1 now ready for the inside finish and Mill soon be ready to install furniture and hospital equipment. A superintpndent will be selected in the near future. Auditor Calls Meeting. County Auditor Browne, has issued a call for a special meeting of the council, to he held in this city, on Saturday, May 29. The new tax law last year complicated financial affairs rf the county and the levy, which was cut by the State Tax Board. $20 on the $100 and does not provide sufficient fund by about $14,000 for the rew bridges and renairs that are planned annually. The meeting is called for the purpose of changing this condition. Funk's Lake Ooens. Funk's Lake, west of here on the traction, about three miles, has been onened for the summer, and is being visited by large crowds. A female baseball team was one of the attractions, recently. Vaudeville attracts a large number of people, also. The park will be improved as soon as the weather will permit. Sues For Divorce. Suit for divorce was filed Wednesday by Elsie E. Taylor vs. Arthur Taylor. They were married on August ft. 1915 and separated on April, 1920. The defendant is charged with cruel pnd inhuman treatment. The plaintiff asks for the custody of their child.

Reed Gets Place. Charles E. Reed, of this city, has

been appointed by Governor James P. Goodrich, a member of the Indiana Board of Pharmacy, to fill the unexpired term of William H. Fugas, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Mr. Reed is a graduate of the Winchester High School,

and also of the School of Pharmacy, of Purdue University. McGriff Special Judge. Judge E. F. McGriff, of Portland, acted as special Judge Wednesday, and granted the removal of a guardian for William Clark, a resident of Lynn. Candidates File Expenses. Statements of candidates expense accounts were filed Wednesday as

follows: Reed E. Haworth. $82.75;

George Stephens, $87.30; W. M. Batcheler, $48; A. E. Purdy, $58.50, and G. Cal Shultz, $43.50. Warner Wants Divorce. Suit for divorce has been filed by Harry W. Warner vs. Eva D. Warner. They were married August 8, 1898, and separated in October, 1918. The defendant Is charged with cruel and inhuman treatment, also that she cursed and abused the plaintiff. Want Land Partitioned. Complaint for. partition fo land was filed Tuesday by Andrew Shaneyfelt vs. Mary C. Simmons, Martin Shaneyfelt, Sarah E. Miller. Charles Shaw. Edward Shaw. David Shaw, Delia Small, Oliver Small, Maud Smail, Eva Small, and Max Shaneyfelt, administrator of Henry Shanneyfelt, deceased.
