Using Your Mind Many persons who have successfully passed ! mental tests that are now so fashionable are preening themselves on their mentality and
looking down upon those who, in

; Psychologists and psychiatrists say that the juse of the mind is what counts. To persons may 'have the same mental capacities, rank equally

A person wnu
mental test should exercise his mentality to the fullest capacity. A plodder in school often makes the greatest success in life, and the "brilliant" student who flashes through his courses some times fails miserably in life. It is fortunate that the world does not guage every person by a mental test. If it did, many slow thinking person would be hopelessly handicapped at the outset of his career. There is room here for every person who will use the mentality he has. j

Potatoes Two years ago, when the price of potatoes was less than half the cost today every one was urged by the government to raise them. Vacant lots were put under cultivation and thousands of bushels of potatoes were stored in cellars and
their estima
pantries for winter consumption. Two years ago the cry was that home gardens would help win the war. .Today the call has lost none of its potency, even if the war is over, for if urban dwellers do not plant potatoes, indications are that they will not be able to buy them this fall. The country is facing a menacing crop shortage. Foodstuffs are going to be scarce and high. They will be plentiful and cheap if vacant land within the city corporations are planted with crops. Many of us have been so engrossed in condemning the profiteer and devising methods to smash him that we have overlooked the weapon nearest at hand the home garden. Direct action often pays. In this case it is the cultivation of a home garden.

And as he waved a trowel and a hammer in the air, he went on: "Two years ago I was a working bricklayer, and although prosperity has smiled on me, I still treasure the implements whichf brought me my Wild cheers greeted his statement, and the tools were handed around for inspection. The candidate thought to make his point more telling with the explanation: ' "Brother workingmen, can I rely on your support?" "You can that!" exclaimed a man who was examining the tools, with an air of awe. "A chap wot can lay bricks with a gardener's trowel must be extry clever." One summer, when little Martin was paying a visit to his cousins in Ohio he was taken to see an elderly woman. She was much attracted by Martin and asked him, "Have you any brothers?" "Oh, yes," replied little Martin, T have two of them. One goes to high scbo1 and the other 13 a gentleman." HIGH SCHOOL BOY FACES MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE RUSHVIL.LE, Ind.. May 11. TRIAL OF FORMER SHELBY COUNTY OFFICIAL OPENS RUSHVILLE. Ind., May 11. The trial of the state against Cecil B. Colons, former clerk of the Shelby Circuit court, charged with embezzlement. The case was sent here on a change of venue, with John Craig of Greensburg, as a special judge. One of the principal witnesses for the state this afternoon was Burney B. Spradling, a field examiner for the state board of accounts who disclosed an alleged deficit of over $3,000. ' Spradling testified that in 1917 he examined Collin's books for the entire year of 1916, and they then showed a shortage of more than $5,000, but this was never made public, as Collins made good the shortage. The defense attempted to show that the deficit on Collin's books was carried over from a former clerk. TO RELIEVE CATARRH, CATARRHAL DEAFNESS AND HEAD NOISES Persons suffering from catarrhal deafness, or who are growing hard of hearing and have head noises, will be glad to know that this distressing af fliction can usually be successfully treated at home by an internal medi cine that in many instances has ef fected complete relief after other treatments have failed. Sufferers who could scarcely hear have had their hearing restored to such an extent that the tick of a watch was plainly audible seven or eight Inches away from either ear. Therefore, if you know of someone who is troubled with head noises or catarrhal deafness, cut out this formula and hand it to them and you may have been the means of saving some poor sufferer perhaps from total deafness. The prescription can be prepared at home and is made as follows: Secure from your druggist 1 ounce Parmint (Double Strength). Take this home and add to it M pint of hot water and a little granulated sugar; stir until dissolved. Take one tablespoonful four times a day. Parmint is used in this way not only to reduce by tonic action the inflammation and swelling in the Eustachian Tubes, and thus to equalize the air pressure on the drum, but to correct any excess of secretions in the middle ear, and the results it gives are nearly always quick and effective. Every person who has catarrh in any form, or distressing rumbling, hissing sounds in their ears, should give this recipe a trial. Advertisement. Ohio's Wheat Crop Scarce Half of That ot 1919, Is Estimate of Crop Reporter Ohio will have scarce half the wheat crop that it had a year ago, according to a review of the crop situation by the state and federal crop reporting system released at Columbus Monday. There will be 720,000 acres less to harvest and the condition Is only 68 per cent of normal, representing a prospective crop of 13.9 bushels per acre. There is in sight a crop of 29,000,000 bushels, as compared to 53,000,000 a year ago. The abandonment is estimated at 16 per cent, due principally to winter killing in many counties and to the damage caused by the Hessian fly last fall. Farmers generally ignored the suggestion of the state experi mental farm for late sowing. There is yet only a slow growth of grass for pasture and hay, due to the cold and unfavorable weather. Pasture condition Is poorest in years. There are general complaints that farm work has been most seriously retarded by the shortage of labor and inability to cultivate the fields. Oats and other small grains will be below the average and corn plowing has seldom been so late. Frequent predic tions of food shortage are heard. One Dead in Interurban Crash Near Springfield, 0. GoodE looa ravening By Roy K. Moulton YES, BUT WHADDY YA MEAN? We find this In a Missouri weekly: "Mr. Blair will recover, but has a broken leg and a fractured Jaw, which will be good news to all his friends." There seems to be a lot of bother over the coming scarcity of clothing. Judging by the appearance of one of our well-known sexes, that scarcity has already arrived. Wants his friends to know what the new medicine, Dreco, did for him. . 1 just feel so much better that I want my friends and neighbors to know what It was that brought me out," are the words of Mr. Harrison Lloyd, of Route 5, Marlon, ind., who is a well-known farmer. "I've always suffered from constipation; bad pains in my back, kidneys acted bad and had rheumatism in my shoulders, which annoyed me very much. On top of this I had Flu, which left me in a very weakened condition; seemed I couldn't get my strength back. I got to where I didn't want to go to the dining room at alL for the sight of food made me sick at the stomach. ' "I noticed In the papers where people were praising Dreco so high, so went to town and got a bottle, and now I can't praise this medicine enough. It gave me a good appetite; stopped the backache and pains In my shoulders; got my bowels moving regularly; in fact it has helped me in every way. I am taking a bottle home to my Bister, as she needs a good medicine to strengthen her up, and I know Dreco will do it." Dreco is the pure liquid extract of many roots, herbs, barks and leaves, which act on the vital organs of the human body. After taking Dreco it is noticed that the stomach is soothed and the gassy condition eliminated; the liver becomes -active, relieving headaches, that dull, tired-out feeling: nerves are quieted, which induces sound sleep. The kidneys are strengthened; appetite Increased; bowels act with ease and regularity, and the whole system takes on renewed energy, vigor and vitality. Dreco is harmless, pleasant to take and the effects are quickly felt. All progressive druggists now sell Dreco and it Is being especially introduced in Richmond by Clem Thistlethwaite's Seven Drug Stores. Advertisement.
