Business Courses in Colleges The establishment of a business course in Earlham college is in line with a disposition of colleges and universities to broaden the scope of the courses offered to students. Indiana university has just established a commercial department which will award degrees to students completing the specified courses and Columbia university has a school of commerce. Educators are answering the demand of business men and financiers for men trained in the principles of business and commerce. The paucity of trained college graduates for the business world has long been keenly felt by heads of organizations. They wondered why colleges prepared young men for the professions, but overlooked a field invaded by thousands of young men. - v The full effect of the establishment of com

Understanding comes only through long patience and charity and tolerance. If it is true that much we think, we don't mean, it is all the more true that many of our looks are also misunderstood. The only way to judge .another's looks accurately is to be invited into their heart. There you will learn! How often folks go through bitter and unhappy days because they say, "Well, it looked as though they meant to hurt," whereas no hurt was meant at all. The look of the world is a composite look. mercial courses in colleges will not be felt for, three or four years, but after that these courses j will occupy the same relative position that the schools of journalism hold. These schools have developed hundreds of capable young men for newspaper work. The war gave many young men without collegiate training opportunity to prove their ability. Many of them rose to comparatively high rank. Few are satisfied to occupy the mediocre positions they 'held in civilian life. They are anxious to forge ahead. Colleges with commercial courses will find that many of the prospective
applicants' will be
their minds and accquiring knowledge to help them in commerce and industry. Graduates of the-'Tiigh schools, who do not care to pursue professional careers will find these courses helpful. Formerly many of them entered business colleges. The college courses will grapple with deeper and more fundamental subjects than those taught in business colleges and will prepare young men to accept positions of greater responsibility. The leaders of industry and business say there are greater opportunities for the young man today than ever in the history of the country. The young man who prepares himself for the opportunity will certainly be in a position to grasp it. Education is a desirable asset. The application of knowledge is true wisdom. The young man who is seeking a business career cannot complain that the opportunity of training does not exist.
"Why, all I see is a long stretch of low ground," said the visitor. "Well, that's It," said the member. "It?" exclaimed the Scot. "Great heavens! I thocht it was a mon." An untraveled countryman once treated himself to a trip to' London, where for the first time in his life he saw a schoolgirl go through her gymnastic exercises for the amusement of the little ones with whom she was playing. After glaring at her with looks of interest and compassion for some time he asked a boy nearby if she had fits. "No," replied the boy; "them's gymnastics." "Ah, how sad," said the man. "HoV long's she had 'em." An elderly lady was questioning the ex-artilleryman. "And what was the. most terrible sight you witnessed in the war?" she asked. "Well, it was like this," replied the soldier. "We had just spotted a German machine gun nest with about 12 enemy gunners that were holding up our advance. We located the nest and put the first shot right in the middle of the Jerries." "How dreadful!" interrupted the old lady, "did it kill them all!" Io'm," replied the soldier, sadly, "it was a dud." Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler, candidate for the Re publican presidential nomination, has icsue(i a statement of his Drincinles. favoring among other things light wine and beer and the principles un derlying the Kansas court of industrial relations. This will be the only public statement that Dr. Butler will make prior to the Republican convention in June, according to John R. Davies, manager of the Butler campaign committee. SPRING FEVER Following Colds, Crip or Flu, Thin, Watery or Poisoned Blood (By Dr. Valentine Mott.) At this time of year most people suffer from what we term " spring fever" because of a stagnant condition of the blood, because of the toxins (poisons) stored up within the body during the long winter. We eat too much meat, with little or no green vegetables. Bloodless people, thin, anemic people, those with pale cheeks and lips, who have a poor appetite and feel that tired, worn or feverish condition in the spring-time of the year, should try the refreshing tonic powers of a good alterative and blood purifier. Such a tonic as druggists have sold for fifty years, is Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery. It is a standard remedy that can be obtained in tablet or liquid form. Made without alcohol from wild roots and barks. Milwaukee, "Wis. "For the last twenty years I have used Dr. Pierce's Q olden Medical Discovery, at times, as a general tonic, with excellent results. One bottle in the spring, and one in the fall, is usually all - sufficient. It has given ,me added strength and endurance and has greatly aided me in following the strenuous life of a freight handler. I have also found the Pleasant Pellets very beneficial." JOHN W. THIS MAN HAD PLENTY TO EAT BUT NO APPETITE "Since taking the new medicine, Dreco, I can eat anything put before me and it doesn't hurt me either," said Mr. J. H. Reed, 317 E. Monroe Street. Kokomo, Ind., who is well . known and highly respected in that section. "I used to have- dull pains in my stomach and everything I ate seemed to lay heavy and would not digest. The pains in my back and limbs would hurt so bad that I could hardly go on with my work at times. I would also have dizzy spells and spots would float before my eyes. I was constipated so that I had to take medicine nearly every night. I had taken several different patent medicines and had a good doctor prescribe for me, but none of it did me any good. I was growing worse all the time, so that when Dreco came 1 along, and the people right hfre in our own county and city were praising it so highly, T decided to give it. a trial. The very first bottle helped me very much. It seemed to soothe my stomach and my food began to digest and the pains to grow less. My bowel action got regular and natural and talk about eating. My, but I think I can now eat too much, and it is giving me Lstrength also. The dizzy spells passed off, which showed that Dreco was acting on my liver. I expect to take three more bottles, and I know I will be absolutely cured then." People, everywhere Dreco has been introduced, have found greatTelief from stomach trouble, nervousness, weakness and debility through the use cf Dreco. It builds up the whole body and strengthens it, clears the blood of all poisons and impurities, stimulates the liver to healthy action, corrects constipation and clears the system of malaria and biliousness . Dreco has been found especially good for women who have spells of depression and blues, poor circulation, hot flushes, numbness, poor sleep and are pale and listless. It puts new life and vigor into the nerves, brightens the eye and improves the complexion. That Dreco does what is claimed for it is proven by the many testimonials given by persons who have received great benefits by its use. All progressive druggists now sell Dreco and it is highly recommended in Richmond by Clem Thistlethwaite's Seven Drug Stores. Advertisement. RICHMOND BATTERY AND RADIATOR CO. V W. G. How soon after the Civil War did the government begin 'to redeem greenbacks? A law was passed providing that specie payments be resummed on January 1, 1879. John Sherman, secretary of the treasury, gathered together a large amount of silver and gold in the treasury and was prepared to pay it out in return for United States notes: but when the time came there was almost no demand for the coin. When the people saw they could get gold and silver for their paper money, they were not anxious to do so. Their paper money would buy just as much as the coin, so that it was useless to make the change. Since 1879, our gold, silver and paper money have been on an equality. L. H. How may the president of the United States be removed? He is removable by impeachment. He may be charged with "high crimes and misdemeanors", of violating the constitution or the law. The charges are brought by the house, the senate tries the case, the chief justice presides, and it requires two-thirds vote of the senate to convict. If the president is found guilty he may be removed from office and disqualified from again holding office under the United States. Why Measles May Be Dangerous
This is No. 3 of a series of advertisements, prepared by a competent physician, explaining how certain diseases which attack the air passages such as Pneumonia, Influenza, Whooping Cough, Measles or even a long continued Cold often leave these organs in an inflamed, congested state, thus affording a favorable foothold for invading germs. And how Vick's VapoRub m.ay be of value in this condition.
Few of us escape measles it is one of the commonest of childhood diseases. Every mother knows the symptoms, but the mistake that most mothers make is in failing to realize that the child is not fully recovered after the eruption and fever disappear. The air passages are still inflamed and if this inflammation is not cleared up, the air passages may be weakened, thus paving the way for pneumonia or serious disease of the lungs. Nightly applications of Vick's VapoRub will aid nature in relieving this inflammation. Because Vicks acts locally by stimulation thru the skin to draw out the inflammation, attract the blr;cd away from the congested spots and relieve the cough. In addition, the medicinal ingredients of Vicks are vaporized by the body heat. These vapors are breathed in all night long, 30c 60c 81.20 VapoRub More Than 17 Million dr. r. h. Once-a-Week Polish Keeps Teeth Stainless Why do so many use pumice stone, ashes, charcoal, or other harsh, dangerous substance, to remove the unsightly yellowish or blackish tinge from the teeth? Simply because they have never been able to find any tooth powder, paste to liquid that would do the work. The reason tooth stains are so difficult to remove is that they are covered with a slimy film, or "plaque," which the usual dentrifices cannot penetrate or dissolve. The problem of removing these obstinate films has finally beVn solved by a well-known dentist, who has originated what he calls "Once-a-Week Tooth Polish." This polish not only removes all discoloration easily and quickly, but without the least injury to enamel or gums qualities not found in any other preparation in tke market. Once-a-Week Tooth Polish, obtainable at any druggist's, should be used at least once a week, as the name implies, by children, as well as adults, as a preventive of decay, tartar, stains, germs. THE recent policy of the administration in filling vacancies in the diplomatic posts abroad from men already in the state department's service has won favor even from the bit terest Republican critics. Since tbe armistice appointments have been made largely from inside the ranks. One of these apnointments, recently announced, was iiie selection of Joseph Clark Grew to succeed Norman Hapgood as minister to Denmark. Grew entered the consular service in 1904. acting first as deputy consul-gen eral at Cairo, Egypt. In two years he was promoted To third secretary of the American embassy at Mexico City. He served later at Petrograd, Berlin and Vienna, spending his time during the early years of the war with Ambassadors Gerard and Penfield in Berlin and Vienna, respectively. WHY DID THE UNITED STATES GO DONE DRY?
Realizing the importance of preserving the health of the nation over everything else, thirty-six sovereign states of America, at tremendous loss of revenue, ratified the Prohibition Amendment to the Constitution of this great republic on January 29. 1919: marking an epoch which is undoubtedly the greatest advance for welfare known in its history. After years and years it has, at last, been recognized that alcohol is a detriment to morals and a danger to life, whether used by citizens in the largest cities or in the smallest communities. This is due, of course, to the effect that alcohol has upon the human system. In action alcohol is a violent stimulant. It irritates the tender mucous membranes of the body and thus hinders digestion, circulation, assimilation and every other function, often destroying vitality itself. Alcohol has frequently been known to cause hardening of the liver, to promote rheumatic pains and seriously harm brain power. There was a time when the extensive use of alcohol, for internal purposes, might have been excusable owing to the lack of knowledge that thi poison caused. It was due to the same reason lack of knowledge that the Puritans executed some of their most intelligent and high-minded women under the "Witch Ordinances," believing that in so doing they were "casting out devils." Nowadays everybody knows this was wrong and the practice of the Puritans in this respect will always remain as a blot against those God-fearing and otherwise righteous people. Since the injurious qualities of alcohol have been acknowledged, the question is, "Why should alcohol be issued in medicines any more than sold in beverages?" When absorbed into the blood the consequences are the same in either case. Formerly it was thought that all tinctures, fluid extracts and cordials required alcohol. If statistics published by the London (Eng.) Temperance hospital are correct, then the above theory is wrong. COAL Quality, Weight. Service SUPERIOR ICE AND COAL CO. C. Li. Reinheimer, Prop.
