Throw Away Your Horn and "Dudley Grant Hays, supervisor tension work, and the Association garden committee have arranged to
assisting school children to plant 120,000 gardens in Chicago," says the Chicago Tribune. "These gardens, it is estimated presumably on the basis of war garden production, will give an average yield of $10 worth of vegetables. That will mean a $1,250,000 reduction in the high cost of living for city residents who help with these gardens. "If the school children can do that much, individuals should be able to equal the showing. The gain for the office man, and even for the housewife, will be double. The Mandate Over Armenia The statesmen at San Remo cannot seriously believe that the United States will accept a mandate over Armenia. A mandatory over that country means that the United States must police the territory and protect it against invasion. Americans have reached he limit of their toleration on the "sacred trusts of civilization." It is noticeable that after the allied nations had won great expanses of territory and valuable trade and commercial concessions as a result of the war, they turn over to our country for nurture and protection a land that is torn with dissension and gaunt with starvation. If Armenia needs support, let the nations that have won millions of dollars of potential commercial interest as their share of the war booty, extend to that country the aid it needs. We have no desire to meddle in Armenia's affairs. We have troubles enough at home to keep us fully

1,000 People Travel With Great Hagenback Circus In the neighborhood of 1.000 people travel with the great Hagenback-Wall-ace circus, here on May 5, in addition to 108 advance men who have already visited this city. At night the circus travels from city to city aboard special trains. In the daytime 22 tents which cover 14 acres of grounds are used to house the show. The largest tent is used for the arena. It is 540 feet long and among the biggest reaches of canvas ever constructed. It is supported by bIx gigantic oak poles, larger than the largest mast on the biggest sailing vessel. J The smallest tent is used to nouse the circus barber shop, while adjoining is the library tent -which is supplied with daily papers from the leading cities of the world. Dinner Stories "Now, Willie." said a thoughtful father, as he and his son stood looking into a clothing store window, "I'm going to buy a new pair of trousers for you, and you shall choose them. Which pair do you want?" "Please, father." said the boy after a careful inspection of all those within sight, "may I have the pair marked 'Cannot be beaten!'" A small girl In a street car was trying to say something which her mother appeared to be greatly trying to suppress. Several times the little one started and each time the mother leaned over to her and enjoined silence When the mother thought her child had been, effectually squelched the youngster blurted out: "I don't care. That lady over there says 'ain't' and it goes 'isn't."' Mae Smythe was suing for breach of promise. During the cross-examination she was asked: "Did the defendant send you any letters?" "Yes, sir," answered the fair Mae. "Did he use loving words?" "Did he! I'll say so! He always called me dear, and ended by telling me he belonged to me." And when the court had the letters read, it was found he had addressed her as "My Dear Miss Smythe" and that he had signed them "Very truly yours." Life. MANY WATCH MOON PASS INTO ECLIPSE SUNDAY EVENING Hundreds of Richmond people watched the phenomena of the skies Sunday night when the first eclipse of the moon for 1920 ws visible in this country for three hours and 40 minutes, and during which time the moon was entirely immersed in the earth's shadow cone for one hour and 12 minutes. Tho interposition- of the earth between the sun and the moon, which results in the shadows began at 7:01 o'clock and lasted until 10:41. The eclipse was visible throughout the United States and In the western countries of Europe and Africa on the Atlantic coast, and In the eastern parts of South America. An eclipse can only occur at such times as tho moon is in opposition to the sun in the heavens, or briefer still, at the time of full moon, and is only possible when both the sun and the moon are near the moon's nodes, the points where the orbit crosses the plane of the ecliptic. Unless the moon is near 6ne of the nodes at the time of full moon, she will not strike the shadow, but instead pass either below or above it. Should the sun be less than eight days from a node of the moon's orbit, an eclipse must occur; but should the sun be more than 15 days from a lunar node, an eclipse is impossible. Many inquiries were made as to the reason for the beautiful coloration of the moon, which was of a dull copper color mixed with spots of deep red, though the whole disc appeared mottled with patches of various colors. This coloration is caused by the sunlight shining through the earth's atmosphere. The three eclipses for the year yet to appear are first on May 18. of the sun. The next is on Oct. 27, and is of the moon, white the third is on Nov.
