The Farm and The Farmer By William R. 8a n born
"The early sown oats, put in about Kaster, are looking fine," said J. N. AIcMahan, route 4, Liberty. "No. I liaven't planted any oats myself this year, and not many around here have .pot them sown, though several will llant, soon as ground is ready. I have a lot of wheat which went in on fallow ground rather late which will make a crop, the rest looks poor, but all the ground has been sown to clover." Mr, McMahan reports wintering 27 brood sows, from 25 of which hei. has
saved 150 thrifty pigs, none of which
which looks mighty good, but a small part of it lies thin on the ground, and may be taken by weeds, for these are already showing. We need growing weather to really tell just how wheat will stool and thicken up," in Mr. Carson's opinion. He is to plant 45 acres in corn. Farmers Buying Pure Breda. Time was, and not so long ago, that farmers seldom attended a breeders' sale, but more of them are becoming interested in pure bred stock.
Take the Hawthorn Farm sale of
ing of hogs at times the average weights at various markets were heavier this year than last. The average of 246 pounds at Omaha, In March, was 10 pounds higher than in 1919; at Kansas City was 14 pounds up at 205, 9 pounds at St. Louis at 182 and 12 at St. Joseph at 240 pounds. Some Illinois lands have made record advances. An 80-acre tract near Pana, bought 15 months ago at $100, sold lately at $275, a profit of $9,200. A 400-acre farm near Rochester brought $119,000, an advance of nearly $50,000 over the 1914 price. The man who stated that "Prices don't go up; they are put up," furnished food for thought.

his losses were comparatively light. As
to the future hog market he thinks that corn and hogs are too much out of Pne not to come nearer to a balance later on. Some Prolific Ewes. J. C. Carson, living near Kltchell, lias the banner small flock of ewes, so far as we have heard this spring. His 27 ewes produced 41 lambs, of which :?9 are alive and kicking. He relates that one has added three lambs to his flock each of the last three springs, and saved two of them this year. He comes pretty near to holding the record on pigs, too, having 96 on the place from 12 brood sows, which In fact is surprising, in view of the heavy losses in the pork crop so many farmers down that way have reported; ulso at many other points in the Richmond radius. "Men who sowed oats early are fortunate; their fields are very promising .vnd there is no complaint of seed rot. 1 have 40 acres of wheat, some of
locally only. While the crowd was not large every man was a prospective
buyer. A number of counties were represented, and there really was not cattle enough to go 'round, only 40 head being put up. Among the buyers were: Will Bucklln, William Brumfield, J. K Meyers, of Hagerstown, Ray Rinker, M. F. Brumfield, Robert Mitchell, Vincent Wilson, Edward Bragg, W. A. Lintner, Edward Pierce, Herbert Brinkley, Clarence Clemonson and Lewis Kinsey. Mr. Kinsey paid $100 for a roan heifer calf, and then bought the eight-year-old mother for the same money. Calves a few weeks ago brought the price of the average farm cow. Ray Rinker paid $115 for one little chap. Pfsnitf the almost frenzifd market-
"DANDERINE"
Freckles and Blotches Are Easily Peeled Off
Stops Hair Coming Out; Doubles Its Beauty.
If you are bothered with any cutaneous blemish, it's a poor plan to use paint, powder or anything else to cover it up. Too often this only emphasizes the defect. Besides, it's much easier to remove the disfigurement with ordinary mercolized wax. Applied nightly, the wax will gradually remove freckles, pimples, moth patches, liver spots, sallowness, red blotches or any surface eruption. The affected cuticle is actually absorbed, a little each day, until the clear, soft, youthful and beautiful skin beneath is brought wholly to view. Ask the druggist for one ounce of mercolized wax and use this like you use cold cream. Remove in the morning with soap and water. Many who have tried this simple, harmless treatment report astonishing results. Advertisement.
