Sheep and lambs closed at the high point of the week at Chicago beBt wooled lambs going at $21.50. The Indianapolis market was active on hogs and decidedly 6low on cattle, on Saturday. While the best hogs sold up to $17.00 against a top of $17.25 on , Friday, cattle wpre weak under the pressure of 800 fresh receipts, or almost four times the normal for Saturday. Farmers are guaranteed against an advance in the price of binders on
this year's deliveries and are in line
to get the benefit of any decline, says a local dealer. He says, too, that the 1920 price is $7 below the 1919 figures on binders. Contracts for 1921 deliveries are another matter and not important to those who have bought for the coming harvest. "We haven't an implement In the house that is dearer than last year, while mowers are actually $2.50 lower." said he. "It is true that wagons are up $5, but the truck ia largely replacing the farm wagon, which has seen its best days. "Aa to fence, the American Steel and Wire company hasn't advanced fence a copper in the last 18 months."
The Farm and the Farmer BY WILLIAM R. SANBORN
ing. He now says that his neighbors who sowed early, have nearly all planted most of their wheat fields in oats. County Agent Murphy will attend the Franklin township federation meeting Monday evening, at Bethel, to outline county agent work. His Monday program included a forenoon vteit to the Greensfork schools and an afternoon visit to the school at Whitewater.

Irvin Riegle, of Clarke's Station in Preble county, says rye is a profitable crop, that a lot of it is raised in his vicinity and that it is looking excep
tionally fine. He says the season has
been too dry for wheat, very little rain falling since Decmeber, up to the
past few days, and that wheat was in
jured by winter killing as well as fly. Mr. Riegle says the winter was too cold for tobacco raising. He has an 8-acre crop, about 8,000 pounds, still hanging. Says it froze up after the cold rains last fall and remained frozen all winter.
WHEAT SHOOTS UP 30
CENTS: SHORTAGE REPORTED
A rise in wheat to from $2.45 to
$2.75, between last week and Monday, was startling but not altogether un-'expected.
An unusual shortage is now being
experienced and local grain men say that the high price must be paid or
they must do without it. High prices prevailing in the Cincinnati markets
makes it uncertain whether there will
he a drop.
Some Exceptionally Fine Wheat. On his recent vlBit to Richmond, P. S. Hitchcock, now farming 280 acres near Salem in Rush county, informed A. O. Matthews that he had 86 acres of most promising wheat, is to plant 80 acres to corn and was feeding 150 hogs. Mr. Hitchcock, who hails from Delaware county, Ohio, secured his Indiana farm so late last fall that he
worried because of his very late sow-

HOMELESS!
Constipation, Headache, Colds, Biliousness, driven out with "Cascarets"
asking for copies of the system which is proving so succesful in the Hoosier commonwealth. The first county organization to complete a membership drive under tbe uniform plan was Madison county and. according to figures sent to Lewis Taylor, general secretary, this unit has moved into first place in the race for state membership honors. Shelby county is running a close second with Rush county in third position among the eighty-three county associations affiliated with the parent organization. At the meeting of general secretar
ies of farmers' associations - of the middle west held here during the last
week the operative plan as -worked
out Dy tne Indiana executives was
highly praised. The high co6t of organizing has been a hard problem for
a number of the states to solve, and
the visiting secretaries declared that
there were many valuable pointers to
be patterned after in the new system
being used in Indiana, where the cost per member has run unusually low
compared with other states, one of

which - reported that organization work was costing as high as $1.50 a
member.
A number of important suggestions
were recommended. One of these approved the attitude of the American Farm Bureau federation in declaring the measure of compensation for labor
should be for service rendered rather
than for hours employed. A recom
mendation was passed to the effect that the national organization discourage and repudiate in every legitimate manner the statement that greater
production on the part of tbe farmer will reduce the present high cost of living, but rather will tend to reduce the farmer's income. Less extravaparce and more work to bring about
tbe desired results in the most satisfactory manner were urged.

THIS is the potential mileage supplied daily to the people of the Middle West by the Standard Oil Company (Indiana). In arriving at these figures we have taken ten miles per gallon as the performance of the average car, and multiplied it by 600,000,000, the number of gallons of gasoline marketed by this Company last year, and divided the result by 365. The task confronting the Company is a dual one. Not only must it maintain this flow of gasoline at all times, but it must so plan its activities as to keep pace with constantly increasing demand for fuel, whether this demand be normal or abnormal That, in a word, is the job of the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) and the Company is as big as its job. Every resource, every ounce of energy, and all its equipment are at work to keep pace with the insistent demands for gasoline and other products. The management recognizes its responsibility to the motorists of the 11 States the Company serves, and every effort is being made to meet this responsibility.
