The News Print Shortage ! Publishers who deceived themselves into believing that the supply of news print was inexhaustible and that the shortage of tonnage was

only a temporary inconvenience, are absolutely

convinced now that their judgment was wrong.

Not only has the price of news print increased until quotations today are "16 cents a pound in

comparison with 2V- cents a few years ago, but the supply is far below the normal demands of

the newspapers. Added to this predicament is the curtailment of shipments by mills arising from the "outlaw" strike of the switchmen. If the past was foreboding, the future is gloomy in the extreme. Virtually every newspaper in the United Slates is face to face with a crisis. Few of them have stocks guaranteeing uninterrupted publication for more than 30 days. Those who are a ; little more fortunate than others have no assuriance of replenishing their supply. The acuteness of -the situation is best exemplified by the rigorous policy of curtailment i that has been put into effect. The three Indiana

polis newspapers have reduced the number of pages to the minimum. One Chicago newspaper has eliminated its second section entirely and advises its patrons not to buy but to borrow the paper. A South Bend newspaper, for the first time in 40 years, appeared on the streets one day last week in a four-page edition. A Fort Wayne newspaper has reduced the maximum size of its editions to twelve pages. One Chicago newspaper is down to a 10-page edition. All New York newspapers are appearing in

abbreviated form. The Evening Journal, the Globe and the Evening Sun held their editions to eight pages Monday. Street editions of most of the papers have been four pages. There is no immediate prospect of improvement. The mills have no surplus stocks; they can't f even keep up with the demand. Publishers depending upon one company for their news print have been asked to relinquish 2 per cent of

their 1920 tonnage, which will be used to supply publishers who have no prospect of obtaining paper. The result of the news print crisis is seen in the number of newspapers that have been forced to suspend. Many publishers who grew old in the business have been compelled to close their plants. Under present conditions, and as indicated in the foregoing, there is no relief in sight, space in newspapers is becoming exceedingly scarce. Many publishers have curtailed the number of inches available to the advertisers. They were forced to reduce the space in order to conserve enough paper to prevent a cessation of publication.

Today's Talk By Geerge Matthew Adams

A BABY IN A WINDOW. : I had been riding all day in a train. I had been looking for hours into the face of fields, trees, factories, stumps. Wen behind ploughs, and other things common to the eyes of a window watcher. , But as the train slowed into a small

town, a view caught nly sight

stamped itself upon my mind and brought up whole volumes of speculation. I saw a man, rough in appearance, with his sleeves rolled up, holding a little baby tightly in his arms. Raphael never painted a picture more beautiful than that in the window frame. It is possible for that baby to become President of the United States! Nearly fifty other babies who have

been held in windows, have

that. But more likely that baby will grow up and become a part of the millions who make up all that is good and bad in the world. We are fervently hoping that it will form its way toward all that is good. The man or woman who doesn't feel the pull of a baby's smile, isn't worth being a part of space or time It's the baby that we keep carrying a round in our hearts till the end of the journey, that keps us human, and kind, and generous, and strong. If that man had been holding a basket of stocks, or bonds, or gold eggs, I would have had a lot of pity for him. But he held a baby! And so I loved Mm and, without his knowing it, I placed him among the great of the earth. Always be glad when you see a baby in a window or anywhere else!

Grecian, alabaster countenance, but something akin to a modest and dignified chortle did spring therefrom the other day, when we read that the internal revenue office at Seattle had been entered and the day's receipts of income taxes taken. There is no such word as "impossible" in this great and glorious country of ours. F'instance: We know a man who leaves his place of business in New York at 5 p. m. and reaches his residence in Jersey at 4:30 the same

To Absorb Freckles And Other Blemishes

Every spring numerous inquiries are made by girls seeking some reliable recipe for removing freckles. Very favorable reports have been received from many who have used ordinary raercolized wax during the freckling season. The wax seems to possess unusual properties which completely absorb the freckles, with no harmful effect whatever. The complexion improves wonderfully, becoming as soft as a rose petal, and as delicately tinted. Get an ounce of ordinary mercolized wax at any druggist's, spread a thin layer of It over the entire face every night for a while, washing this off In the morning. DELIGHTED WITH WHAT DRECO DID

Suffered for Years With

Stomach Trouble, Nervous

ness, Pains in Back and Limbs, Dizziness and Constipation. All Gone Now. "I have just finished taking a bottle of Dreco, and it has made me feel so much better and stronger that I can do all my own housework," 6ays Mrs. Tilley Irvine, who lives at 720 S. 13th St., Richmond, Ind. "Before I began taking Dreco," she continued, "I was in a terribly rundown condition; couldn't eat anything hardly, and didn't sleep much. My trouble started several years ago, and

although I tried many different things j

nothing prescribed for me seemed to do me any good, and I was almost a physical wreck. "After eating, I would feel all bloated with sour gas, and my heart would beat so fast sometimes I would think it was going to jump out of my body. This made me very nervous, and I was easy to get excited. I felt so badly that I couldn't take any interest in things. Nearly every day I would read in the papers about what Dreco had done for others, and many cases just fitted my symptoms exactly, so I talked the matter over with my husband, and we decided to give Dreco a trial. After a few days it began to brace me up, and I knew I had at last found the right thing my system needed. "I am now so much better that I

can eat most anything I want, and as J much as I want, and do not feel any! bad effects at all. My husband says I j

ftcii into a. lug, aim lie can naraiy wake me in the morning; I never have a headache now and feel strong and well. I am delighted with what Dreco did for me." When the liver, kidneys or bowels become inactive, the system fails to throw off the poisons, and slowly, day by day, we are weakening our bodies till a breakdown comes. Sometimes it takes the form of the above case. Dreco causes the organs to carry off these toxins and waste matter, and keep the system free of these poisons. All good druggists now sell Dreco and it is highly recommended in this city by Clem Thistlethwaite's Six Drug Stores. Advertisement.

LAWN MOWER MAN BENEFITTED; WALL'S SPLENDID EXPERIENCE IS WELL TOLD BY HIS WIFE

"My husband was certainly helped by Pepgen," says Mrs. Harry Walls, 426 S. W. Second street, Richmond. "He is employed at the F. & N. Lawn Mower factory. "His work was doubly hard for him before he took Pepgen, because he felt so badly. His stomach bothered hi in and his nerves were 'edgy'. He frequently complained of headaches. "After taking a few bottles of Pepgen he could eat foods he had not been able to taste for years. "Pepgen has been such a great benefit to my husband that I am going to take it myself for my nerves. I am sure it will help me." Eating food is not enough to supply the body. Food taken into the stomach must be rendered into blood, bone and muscle. If the digestive organs are not ready to perform their functions the food becomes waste, sours, ferments and creates poisons

which are carried throughout the system. Pepgen is designed to aid assimilation, so that food which is taken into the system will serve as fuel for the body to keep It the human engine moving as it should.
