Amelia is derived from that remarkable word amal, which has formed the root of so many proper names. It appears in practically every language and means "work." As early as the days of the Vikings, it was incorporated into masculine and feminine names The first Amilias was an armourer ! in the court of King Nielung. Aumlung, another of the early versions, appears in the "Book of Heroes," as . naming Aumlung the Strong, and there was a Duke Amelung recorded In Danish ballad lore. Amala was the earliest feminine name formed from Amal. It was a favorite in Lombardy, but soon penetrated Germany, where it found vogue as Amalie. Meantime. France and Italy had adopted the Latin Acmilia, and through the similarity in sound, the two names were thought to be Identical. , France compromised .the difference between Aemilia and Amalie and produced Amelie, the name which has . such vogue there today. Amelia is the English version. It

According to ancient belief, the amethyst has a sobering effect upon rash or impetuous natures. To dream of it signifies freedom from harm. Saturday is Amelia's lucky day and 4 is her lucky number. The primrose, Eignifying simplicity, is her flower. Legion Will Act On Petition For Auxiliary The American Legion, Harry Ray Post. Yesterday atiernoon 1 took my cousin to a baseball game. He was rather bored, and not at all properly him. I did my be3t to point out to him the good points about baseball, and explain things clearly to him, but only seemed to mix him up the more. Dear, dear, and motHer firmly believes in international alliances, personal as well as national! I have given up all hope of ever converting Cecil to our ways and pleasures. Think of a long life passed In a round of dull home pleasures and pink teas, plus the British interpretation of maternity. There is no more dreadful reflection to me. What Church Financial Campaign is

The world survey has given to the Christian bodies of North America a definite knowledge of the needs of the world. Many of the different de nominations, seeing this need and also seeing an opportunity, decided to! raise great budgets tor their own work. The men at the head of the Interchurch World movement recognized the-fact that the individual efforts of the various denominations would necessarily result in a great amount of duplications and a needless waste of time, money and effort. It was therefore proposed that all the Protestant denominations that desired to raise money for their own needs should concentrate their efforts a"d 'fuct all the canvasses during tic cigut-uajr periuu, April iu ;iay 2, thereby making it necessary to conduct but one publicity campaign for all the denominations instead of one for each of the thirty denominations that are participating. To Canvass Own Constituency. Each of these denominations has its own definite amount to raise from its own constituency and in its own way. The national budget of each denomination will be apportioned to the varilous state and by the state to the counties and then to the individual churches. In addition to the denominational budget it is hoped by the united appeal to reach a large number of peo ple wno nave not been responsive to the denominational appeals. Each county has a united county director, who serves without regard to any denominational affiliation, and also a county denominational director for each denomination that has two or more churches in the county. The united county director, with aid of the local churches is to organize a citizen's committee in each community where there are two or more participating churches. This citizen's committee is to consist of a community director, who serves without regard to any denominational lines, and one lay member from each of the participating churches in the community. The citizen's committee is to be re-

SPRING IS HERE BUT ARE YOU READY TO PARTAKE OF PLEASURES OFFERED? Trutona is Daily Winning Unstinted Praise From Hundreds for Overcoming Tired, Draggy 'No-Account' Feeling So Prevalent During the Present Season.

Does the coming of Spring with all its pleasures mean anything to YOU? "That all depends," may be your answer and admittedly, "it all depends" it all depends upon whether or not your system has withstood the exacting siege of winter that leaves in its wake so many, many thousands of people with completely run-down systems. In fact, conspicuously in the minority are those who have completely avoided the ravages of winter maladies. True, there are thousands who were successful in warding off attacks of influenza and still more thousands who escaped pneumonia, but who is there that did not experience at least one heavy winter cold during the past season? Remember, only second in severity to pneumonia and influenza, is the heavy, winter cough or cold. Like pneumonia and influenza, winter coughs and colds tend to weaken and materially affect almost every vital organ of the body. People who have suffered a heavy winter cough, t feel that their systems have esrje& the strain of winter weather, e sadly mistaken. If they could but grasp the facts, they would not wonder why they feel so tired, sluggish,

Engaged Girl Phillips tsied in lite, love and the pursuit of happiness after I have been twice or even three times a mother. Nothing could stop me. Certainly not Jack. I find ymself continually congratulating myself these days. And then mother dares to accuse me of flirting with Cecil. The idea is preposterous." At the best I could only hope to convert him to our sensible point of view never to really get sentimental with such a self-satisfied young man. I feel sure that if I ever did get serious with him he would write home to one of his sisters and tell her what a funny cad I was, and so forth. No, I shall never be Cecil's Joker. Jack and Cecil have developed an abnormal antipathy for each other, which amuses me. Of course they never would agree about anything. In the first place Jack would despise any man who" talked about baseball as though it were a game for babies or idiots, and Cecil has no use for a young man who allows his business to engross him. How they do scrap whenever they meet Cecil informed me that the American man is to blame for the American woman. To which I answered, "Yes, indeed, God bless him." He didn't get -me, of course. I have definitely promised to take him to see the wonders of Wall street, and the Woolworth tower tomorrow. 1 wonder if he will evince any enthusiasm at them? Dollars to doughnuts he will not. (To be continued.) pie who are friendly to the church, but who have no denominational connection. It will be the duty of the citizen's committee to see that all these friendly citizens are approached by some member of the committee ana are given an opportunity to snare in this campaign for missions, education and benevolence. The money raised from this source will be pro rated to the churches. However, any member of group "B" ha the privilege of designating any particular church or any phase of the work to which he wishes his money to apply. It should be kept in mind that the Inter-Church World organization is to derive no financial benefit from this campaign, all the money going to the individual churches. $175,000,000 Asked An aggregate total of $175,448,349 is to be raised for universal evangelism. The need of this amount is not based upon a guess nor upon speculation. It is supported by documentary evidence Becured from the official boards and societies of the co-operating churches, which represent about 60 per cent of the Protestant membership of North America. (The fact that the other 40 per cent of the Protestant evangelical membership is not associated in th'e campaign does not indicate any hostility on the part of the bodies containing this membership). While the bodies will not all use the same per centages of their money for the different phases of the work the totals show. that approximately 30 per cent will be used for foreign mis sions; per cent tor home mis sions; 25 per cent for education; and the remainder for American hospitals and homes, Amerfcan ministerial support and relief, war relief, and temperance. Heart Problems Dear Mrs. Thompson: I am a married woman 25 years old. My husband is 21 years my senior. Wo have been inarrieds three years and I don't love him. Life is just a misery with him, and he says he doesn't love me and wishes he had never seen me. I want to work and buy myself some decent clothes, but he won't let me. I was engaged to marry a man nearer my own age and a misunderstanding arose between us and our engagement was broken, but I dearly love this man. We pass as strangers ahd never speak and haven't for three years. I am miserable for days after I see him to see what a fool I was to marry a man I didn't love. I would love to work and then time would pass more quickly. We have no children. His wages are barely sufficient to get what we eat and pay our debts. Neither of us have any decent things to wear I think I ought to work anyway, whether he wants me to or not. It is only jealousy that he doesn't want me to go where any one will see me. ANXIOUS. I admire your husband for not wanting you to work. It is pride rather than jealousy which makes him feel this way . Your only course seems to be divorce. This is not fair to your. husband, but since you cannot love him, Hair Often Ruined By Careless Washing Soap should be used very carefully, if you want to keep your hair looking its best. Most soaps and prepared shampoos contain too much alkali. This dries the 6calp, makes the hair brittle, and ruins it. The best hing for steady use is Mulsifled cocoanut oil shampoo (which is pure and greaseless), and is belter than anything else you can use. One or two teaspoonfuls will cleanse the hair and scalp thoroughly. Simply moisten the hair with water and rub it in.. It makes an abundance of rich, creamy lather, which rinses out easily, removing every particle of dust, dirt, dandruff and excessive oil. The hair dies quickly and evenly, and it leaves the scalp Soft, and the hair fine and silky, bright, lustrous, fluffy and easy to manage. You can get Mulsified cocoanut oil shampoo at any pharmacy, it's very cheap, and a few ounces will supply every member of the family for months. Advertisement. Richmond's
