COUNTY UNIT LAW again niiPuinHcn. en

DAYS' MORE DELAY The construction of millions of dollars' worth of hard surface highways in Indiana under the 1919 county unit road act will probably be delayed until late in the summer, according to an announcement of the state board of tax commissioners. The Wayne county commissioners have been waiting for the recent ruling to take action on proposed improvements for Richmond and county

roads. Although the law has been found constitutional by the Indiana supreme court, it now develops that the appellants have 60 days in which to file a motion for a rehearing. Therefore the tax board will not pass on the county unit bond petitions now on file until the expiration of the sixty days or until the appellates sign a waiver for rehearing. If no action is taken by the appellants, action on the bonds will be delayed until June 1. Taking into consideration other delays many counties will be too late in obtaining contracts and selling the bonds to pet the construction work under way this year. $3,000,000 Issues Considered. The aggregate of the county unit bond petitions now on file with the tax commissioners is in excess of $3,000,000. Many counties are preparing to file petitions for additional construction under the county unit law. Should the court procedure be hurried up it Is probable that a large proportion of the contracts will be let early enough this year to enable a great deal of construction. It Is possible that $5,000,000 will be spent by the counties for these roads. This amount added to the $5,000,000 that is being ppent by the state highway commispion this year for roads, will make the r total Indiana Investment in hard surface roads amount to $10,000,000 during 1920. This does not take into consideration the several million dollars that will be spent under the three mile road law.

They need more space and do not give the return either in quantity or length of season that a selected variety of smaller growing vegetables will yield. Take a sample 10 by 15 garden which proved very satisfactory to its owner. It may not be the best arrangement, but it worked. A small garden has one great advantage. It is easy to keep it watered and cultivated and better vegetables are sure to result than from a larger area which could not have as careful attention. s

A consolidation of the federal board of vocational training, the war risk insurance bureau and the United States public health service under direction of a member of the president's cabinet, as provided in the Rogers bill, is favored by the American legion, It was announced today. ters, and it was decided to urge the

passage of the Rogers bill.

It has been brought to the attention of the American legion that several in

consistencies in the conduct of the vocational training board exist, according to Lemuel Bolles, national adjutant, and it is believed the board should be placed under more effective direction. Graves of comrades in Prance will

Birds of Indiana You May Not Know

V : J (Furnislred by the State Department of Conservation). In his "North American Birds", Mr. Chapman lists 8C species and subspecies f sparrows, and in his "Birds of Indiana" Mr. Butler describes 19 of these which have been identified in this state as song sparrows. The sparrows are comparatively small gray and brown birds with striped upper parts, lighter underneath. They closely resemble each other, and it takes an expert to distinguish them.

They winter from Indiana and Massachusetts southward and breed from Indiana and 1 Illinois northward throughout their range. They are persistent and joyous singers, and there ie scarcely an hour in the day when their delicious, ecstatic song may not be heard. The song sparrow seeks its fo- " i

, the ground, the food consisting largely of seeds of weeds and grass. In the

summer it is a destroyer of insects. The average of its food during the year is about one-third Insects and two-

thirds weed and grass seed. Because of the great numbers of them, their general distribution, and the long: period they are with us, they are' among our most .beneficial birds.

THOUSANDS HAVE KIDNEY TROUBLE AND' DON'T KNOW IT

Small Garden, Well Kept, Beats Big Neglected One Small gardens are the principal problem in combaitlng high prices of foodstuffs. No garden is too small to yield its cut in the cost of living. Merely a square yard will raise nine tomato plants grown to a single stem and st?.ked. They would give a good yield of tomatoes. The majority of small gardens range in size from 10 by 15 to 51 by 25, with many only 10 by 10. In the smaller sizes it is useless to expect to raise a crop of potatoes or corn worth while.

Most people do not realize the alarming increase and remarkable prevalency of kidney disease. While kidney disorders are the most common diseases that prevail, they are almost the last recognized by patient and physicians, who content themselves with doctoring the effects, while the original disease undermines the system. Your other organs may need attention but your kidneys should have attention first because their work is most important. If you feel that your kidneys are the cause of your sickness or run down condition commence taking Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root, the great kidney, liver and bladder medicine, because as soon as your kidneys begin to improve they will help all the other organs to health. A Trial will Convince Anyone. Thousands of people have testified

that the mild and immediate effect of Swamp-Root is soon realized, and that it stands the highest for its remarkable results in distressing cases. Symptoms of Kidney Trouble. Swamp-Root is not recommended for everything but if you suffer from annoying bladder troubles, frequently passing water night and day, smarting or irritation in passing, brick-dust or sediment, headache, backache, lame back, heart disturbance due to bad kidney trouble, uric acid rheumatism, lumbago, may be loss of flesh or sallow complexion, kidney trouble in its worst form may be stealing upon you. Swamp-Root is Pleasant to Take. If you are already convinced that Swamp-Root is what you need, you can purchase the regular medium and large size bottles at all drug stores.

SPECIAL NOTE You may obtain a sample size bottle of Swamp-Root by enclosing ten cents to Dr. Kilmer & Co., Bimghamton, N. Y. This gives you the opportunity to prove the remarkable merit of this medicine. They will also send you a book of valuable information, containing many of the thousands of grateful letters received from men and women who say they found Swamp-Root to be just the remedy needed in kidney, liver and bladder troubles. The value and success of Swamp-Root are so well known that our readers are advised to send for a sample size bottle. Address Dr. Kilmer & Co., Binghamton, N.'Y. THE grave problem confronting the serious-minded men in the petroleum industry today, is to keep pace in production with the seven-league strides of the demand for gasoline. In ten years the production of crude oil in the United States has increased only 96 per cent, while during the same period the output of gasoline has increased 560 per cent. The demand for no other commodity in general use has increased to a degree that even approximates the mark reached by gasoline. In ten years the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) has increased its output of gasoline from 150 million gallons to more than 600 million gallons a year. It is apparent that this could not have been accomplished except by intensive application of improved, scientific methods of refining. As a matter of fact, the price of gasoline is held in bounds only y the sheer force of science. Except for the ability of such institutions as the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) to make a wide range of useful products from that part of the crude oil which is not used to make gasoline, you would be paying a much higher price for gasoline than you pay today. The Standard Oil Company (Indiana) is bending every effort to increase its output of gasoline to meet the demands and to sell it to you at as low a price as possible. Leonard Ear Oil

Ninety Percent of the cases of Deafness and Head Noises are Catarrhal, due to Catarrh in the Eustachian Tubes and Air Passages which connect the ears and nose. In all such cases these Tubes become stopped up with Catarrhal mucus, and the Air Passages of the Head clogged, thus preventing the air from enteringan d circulating as nature intended.and the result is Deafness and a great variety of dreadful Head Noises. Catarrh causes Thickened, Sunken and Hardened Drums. Also, if the Natural Drum is perforated or completely destroyed the cold air enters through the perforation and a Catarrhal condition quickly arises. Therefore, before there can be any improvement in Hearing or Relief from the Head Noises It is absolutely necessary that the diseased condition in the Eustachian Tubes and Air Passages be relieved. By "Rubbing It In" and massaging Leonard Ear Oil as directed.
