PENN'S GRAVE TO BE VISITED BY YOUNG FRIENDS AUG. 24-30
Dr. Walter C. Woodward has been Invited to a conference ot Young Friends of the world planned for Jordan, England, a hostel 20 miles out of London, Aug. 24 'to 30, following the" All-World conference ot Friends In London, Aug. 13 to 20. "Between 350 and 400 Young Friends will attend the conference it is thought," said Clarence C. Pickett, executive secretary of the Young Friends board of the Five Years meeting Tuesday. Mr. Pickett, who attended a
conference at Jordans, in 1912, de-J
scribed the site of one of particular historic interest for a conference ot Friends. Near the old house, which is now a hostel, and the century-old barn, now a lodging house, are the graves of William Penn, and other Penns and Pennlngtons. Nearby is the old home of John Milton and Thomas Gray. During the war Jordans was used as a training station for Friends Ambulance service, the'men being trained there in stretcher bearing and first aid. Four Young Friends Here. In advance of the English conference four well known younger Friends of England will arrive in this country to confer with Young Friends here and arouse interest in the Jordans conference. They will speak in Richmond. The group includes Rosslyn Earp, a well known physician of England; Rowntree Glllett. a Quaker chaplain, and two others, Roy Calvert and John Makalls. Makalls is at present finishing work for a degree at Cambridge and will be unable to come to America until June. The others will come early in May. Ot interest also to American Friends who are to attend the English conferences is a Irish conference called July 31 to August 5 in Dublin. Under stress of the present national conditions in Ireland, it is thought this conference will bo particularly Interesting.

OLD PAVEMENT IDEA BEST. It has been found, say road experts, that the present day rigid foundation, that is at the bottom of all paved roads, is not as effcient as the one time gravel and sand mxtures for some purposes. They advocate using the elastic foundation for cement surfaced roads, the cement to go over a, prior coating of asphalt.
