Every Littbe Bit Helps The time is not far distant when the thrifty head of the family and his children will be busy in the home garden preparing the soil for the seeds that later will mature into vegetables for summer consumption and winter storage. The spirit of spring is asserting itself mightily. A few days of sunlight will warm the soil
and wake the earth from its hibernal slumber. Spears of green presently will be peeping out of earth's crust and before many days its surface will be carpeted with new vegetation. Signs of spring are everywhere. Every grocery store has its display of seeds. They remind us that the home garden awaits its annual tilling. They remind us emphatically that the world-is still crying or food, that thousands perished this winter In Europe, and that the yield of countless
fields will be required to satisfy the hunger of millions. If the war taught us the value of home gardens, the reconstruction period, with its high prices here and its starvation abroad, imperatively drives home the lesson of cultivating them anew. The home garden is not a whim, a silly
notion, a figment of the fancy, the outcrop of a theorist's foolish fallacy, but a practical and sensible wav to produce .foodstuffs to offset
want. The war gardens saved the nation thous
ands of dollars. The gardens of the reconstruc
tion period will be equally as valuable and equally
as potent in diminishing the demand for food. The world is crying for bread to eat. If the home
gardens keep thousands out of the market, the surplus will tend to lower prices and create the
surplus which will feed the thousands who have
been unable to grow crops.
Richmond held an enviable position a few years ago for its record as a city of home gardens. Few, if any city in the United States, could boast so many gardens in comparison with its
population and the number of its school children. This record can be approached this year, if the thrifty family head cultivates his back yard and a vacant lot. Every idle spot in Richmond should be made to produce. If the world needs accelerated production, Richmond may do its share in no small way by putting in gardens by the hundreds. War gardens, responding to in
telligent cultivation, carefully cared for during the summer months, will be a commendable response to the demand for production.

A TIP TO EMPLOYERS. A large number of businesses fail, tot because of the lack of brains or capital of the employer, but because lie puts too high a value upon his capital and too low a value upon his employes. It's tho employes that mate every i business successful. Of course they must have guidance i and leadership, but not foolish dominance. From the office boy op, every ! employe Is a possible employer. Leave your employes alone as much i a:i possible. Trust them. . Give them reigns. If they make blunders, do not ; discharge them, but teach them. Every , time a blunder is made by anyone, it
j acts as a lesson in betterment, j Enlist the intelligence of . those j whom you employ in the service of i your business. It means a great deal i to them, because it is as much propor- ! tionately to them as to you. Many a merchant prince is running i errands today. Teach every one of your helpers to ! co-operate. It is the law of business success. Every business is an individual machine and each worker a vital pnd necessary part. And no machine should ever be driven it should be handled, and that with care and consideration. Listen to the suggestions of those who work in your organization. Adapt them and remember to give full credit. We all work for a certain kind of fine compensation and that mostly packed into the word "appreciation." It is not for money alone or even foremost that wo strive, but for the rimple thing of adequate service to the height of our ability. Your employes are each one of you!

A more proper title and shorter would be, "Taking It All." Among those who will favor King George's innovation of trousers creased at the sides instead of fore and aft are the bow-legged gentlemen. AFFINITIES Dear Roy I have discovered another "affinity" one as great as the W. K. ham and eggs combination. Kidney and Bladder weakness result from uric acid, says a noted authority. The kidneys filter this acid from the blood and pass it on to the bladder, where it often remains to irritate and inflame, causing a burning, scalding sensation, or setting up an irritation at the neck of the bladder, obliging you to seek relief two or three times during the night. The sufferer is in constant dread, the water passes sometimes with a scalding sensation and is very profuse; again, there is difficulty in avoiding it. Bladder weakness, most folks call it, because they can't control urination. While it Is extremely annoying and sometimes very painful, this is really one of the most simple ailments to overcome. Get about four ounces of .Tad Salts from your pharmacist and take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast, continue this
for two or three days. This will neu
tralize the acids in the urine so it no longer is a source of irritation to the bladder and urinary organs which then act normally again. THIS WEEK ONLY At the Store Named Below A 10-Day Tube of Pepsodent
A Way t
! Daintily Teetlh
To Safer, Whiter, Filmless Teeth
Alt Statements Approved by High Dental Authorities
See How Teeth Glisten When the Film is Gone The results of Pepsodent show clearly in white, glistening teeth. You can see them everywhere, for a million folks now employ it. You can see them on your own teeth when you remove the film. And that's the purpose of this ten-day test.
Film on Teeth Is What Wrecks Them Dental science has found that most tooth troubles are due to a slimy film. You can feel it with your tongue. That film clings to the teeth. It gets between the teeth, enters crevices and stays. The tooth brush doesn't end it. The ordinary dentifrice cannot dissolve it. So its damage is unceasing.
That film is what discolors not the teeth. It is the basis of tartar. It holds food substance which ferments and forms acid. It holds the acid in contact with the teeth to cause decay. Millions of germs breed in it. They, with tartar, are the chief cause of pyorrhea. Also of many other troubles, local and internal.
Based on Pepsin Pepsodent is based on pepsin, the digestant of albumin. The film is albuminous matter. The purpose of Pepsodent is to dissolve it, then to constantly combat it. But pepsin must be activated, and the usual agent is an acid harmful to the teeth. So pepsin long seemed impossible. What science has now done is to invent a harmless activating method. That method is employed in Pepsodent. The result is a tooth paste which will do what nothing else has done. And five years of tests seem to clearly prove that it opens a new dental era. Pepsodent has been submitted to every form ot clinical and laboratory test. Dentists everywhere have watched its effects and now urge its daily use. This week we offer a test to you, and we ask you to accept.it.
Look in Ten Days We urge this test for your sake and your children's sake. Children have most to gain from cleaner, safer teeth. Try to avoid the troubles we have had. Present this coupon for a 10-Day Tube. Use like any tooth paste. Note how clean the teeth feel after using. Mark the absence of the slimy film. See how teeth whiten as the fixed film disappears. A book comes with the sample tube, explaining the results. Learn the reason for them. Compare them with the results of old methods. Then let your own good sense decide what method to employ. This test is of lifetime importance, both to you and yours. It has shown at least a million people the way to whiter, safer teeth. Someone in your home should make it. Cut out the coupon so you won't forget.
That is why brushed teeth discolor and decay. Why tartar forms and pyorrhea starts. You may remove the debris, but the real cause of tooth troubles the clinging film is largely left to do its damage. Now dental science has found a way to combat that film, after years of searching. We ask you to accept a ten-day test and see the results for yourself.
