$20,000,000, STATE'S INCOME TAX RETURN
;Vcen.tbe time for the filing of income tax returns without the payment of penalty for delay expired at midnight Monday, it was estimated by internal revenue officials that approxi mately f 20,000.000 ih income taxes had f been collected in Indiana since Jan. li, when blanks for the returns were made available. The collections represent for the most part the first quarterly installment of the tax, which must be paid with the filing of the returns, althou many have paid the entire tax for the year with the tiling of the returns. A. N. Logan, county head of the work, said Wednesday, he did not care to estimate the . amount collected from Richmond's 1,600 or more filers. Extensions will be granted to individuals only in case of enforced absence or illness. Corporations have been graated extensions for the filing of final returns, but have been required, to make tentative returns and pay the first quarterly installment. A penalty of $1,000 plus 25 per cent, of ihe tax duo is levied for failure to make the return on time. $1,000,000 Last Day Slightly more than $1,000,000 was collected Monday. It is estimated from the returns that in 1919 there were 140,000 persons in Indiana receiving less than $5,000 a year who were required to make returns, and 15,000 receiving more than $5,000 a year. Approximately 10,000 corpor atlons have filed returns and about f the same number of fiduciaries, partnerships and miscellaneous concerns. An increase is shown in the number of persons receiving less than $5,000 a year who are required to make returns, only about 107,000 having made returns for 1918. Tho number above $5,000 was practically the same. Suburban WEST MANCHESTER, O Mr. and Mrs. Vero McGriff entertained Mr. and Mrs. George Hayes and son Virgil. Stay off the damp ground, avoid exposure, keep feet dry, eat less meat, drink lots of water and above all take a spoonful of salts occasionally to I keep down uric acid. ! Rheumatism is caused by poisonous j toxin called uric acid, which is gene- ; rated in the bowels and absorbed into I the blood. It is the function of the kidneys to filter this acid from the blood and cast it out in the urine. The pores of the skin are also a means of freeing the blood of this impurity. In damp and chilly, cold weather the skin pores are closed, thus forcing the kidneys to do double work, they become weak and sluggish and fail to eliminate this uric acid which keeps accumulating and circulating through the system, eventually settling in the joints and muscles causing stiffness, soreness and pain called rheumatism. At the first twinge of rheumatism get from any pharmacy about four ounces of Jad Salts; put a tablespoonlul in a glass of water and drink before breakfast each morning for a week. This is said ot eliminate uric acid by stimulating the kidneys to normal action thus ridding the blood of these impurities. Jad Salts is inexpensive, harmless end is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, combined with lithia and is used with excellent results by thousands of folks who are subject to rheumatism. Here you have a pleasant, effervescent lithia-water drink which overcomes uric acid and is beneficial to your kidneys as well. Why Measles May Be Dangerous This is No. 3 of a series of advertisements, prepared by a competent physician, explaining how certain diseases which attack the air passages such as Pneumonia, Influenza, Whooping Cough, Measles or even a long continued Cold often leave these organs in an inflamed, congested state, thus affording a favorable foothold for invading germs. And how Vick's VapoRub may be of value in this condition.
Few of us escape measles it is one of the commonest of childhood diseases. Every mother knows the symptoms, but the mistake that most mothers make is in failing to realize that the child is not fully recovered after the eruption and fever disappear". The air passages are still inflamed and if this inflammation is not cleared up, the air passages may be weakened, thus paving the way for pneumonia or serious disease of the lungs. Nightly applications of Vick's VapoRub will aid nature in relieving this inflammation. Because Vicks acts locally by stimulation thru the skin to draw out the inflammation, attract the blood away from the congested spots and relieve the cough. In addition, the medicinal ingredients of Vicks are vaporized by the body heat. These vapors are breathed in all night long, 30c 60c 81.20 VapoRub More Than 17 Million RICHMOND BATTERY Cor. 12th and Main
