nominee of his party at San Francisco,
Some weeks ago, it was generally agreed, even by the administration newspapers, that the president was not Beeking another term. In fact, some of the strongest of the administration papers said that his renomlnatlon was out of the question. Now, by reason of his latest uncompromising Btand on the treaty involving the league covens t. there has been a great shift of opinion. Many politicians of both parties think that the president' is seeking a renomlnatlon. Others say that If the president wants the treaty issue to be the foremost one of the campaign he is the logical man to nominate at San Francisco. In general, by one process of reasoning and another, a very large number of public men in Washington have reached the conclusion that the president Is not at all unlikely to be the nominee of his party in, June. Differ in Opinion Of course, whether the president has deliberately set out to secure for himself a renomlnatlon is something as to which there is great variance of opinion. Those who believe he has done so are much more numerous now than
they were a month ago or even a week ago.
The result Is a great amount of dis
for her use; all windows were down,
and it being a particularly cold day, the heat was turned on with the result that the rooms were warm and cozy. The Baroness, totally unaccustomed to American heating systems, was amazed and insisted that the heat be completely turned off before she would consent to remain at the hotel. Her experience in American Pullman sleeping cars, with their ample heat in wintertime, caused her to insist on a special clause being immediately written into her contract whereby she should be provided with a stateroom in which the heat had nat been turned on prior to her occupation for the night. " Clothes Are Oppressive. "It is pernicious," stated the Baroness. "It spoils the complexion, the
figure, the temper everything. In my dances I refuse to be burdened by too many clothes, for the y are oppres
sive: and in my private life, I cannot,
live in a hot house. Your country is wonderful and your hotels surprisingly beautiful, but they are so hot that I always look out for lettuces, orchids or tropical fruit growing." A feature of Rouskaya's performance here will be the Columbia Saxophone Sextette, which is the leading organizations of it's kind on tour. The saxophone has been growing so fast In popularity that the study of it is being taken up all over the country. But it is far from an easy instrument to play, and it is no light task to assemble a body of players competent to appear before a public avid for worthwhile music. In fact, in order to gather together an organization such as the Columbia Saxophone Sextette it was necessary to try out over 60 players not only from this country but from Europe too, before It was possible to choose the very best of all saxophonists and form them in to this splendid sextette. Seats have been selling fast at the Weisbrod music store for the Rouskaya performance and judging from the present appearance of the coliseum plat a record-breaking house is predicted.

The American people will, under those circumstances, be given a chance to say whether they want to undertake the solemn and far-reaching obligations of Article 10 in the form the president wants them to be assumed. Depends on Delegates The time may come, of course, when the president will set at rest the thirdterm talk and declare himself out of It. But one effect of such talk has been to cause observers here to cast about to see what kind of a gathering of delegates will compose the San Francisco convention, and whether the president can force his own nomination if he wants to do it.

Caldwell "Convicted" in Annual Ionian Mock Trial; Fight Results Clyde Caldwell, former marshal of the Ionian Literary society, was "convicted" on the "charge" of embezzling $100 from the Ionian treasury, at the regular session of the Earlham college circuit court last Thursday evening. The event was the annual Ionian mock trial.
While the sheriff and policeman were searching in the audience for Janet Rawls, lady friend of the prisoner, and next witness to take the
stand, the prisoner made his escape
via the rear entrance o the "court",
which was in session in Ionian hall. He was only recaptured after a desperate fight between him and the sheriff (Fred Chambers). The sheriff was forced to use a high powered revolver. The jury retired abnuptly to the ante-room from which loud acclamations of "hang the prisoner", "he's a bad guy," etc., isued. Upon their return the foreman in sonorous Latin derivatives declared the prisoner "absolutely guilty." Immediate clamor arose in court. The jury, sheriff, and whole court engaged in a general fight, in which eix were killed and seven wounded. Court officers o the annual Ionian mock trial were: Judge, "Sass" Whitely; clerk, Milton Hadley; sheriff, Fred Chambers; deputy sheriff, Donald Loree; policeman, Donald Kellum; bailiff. Warren Farqueher; prosecuting attorney, Donald Snyder; lawyer for defense, William Jones; complaintant. Julius Tietz; defendant, Clyde Caldwell; reporter, Paul Hutchens.
The recruiting scenes for the Mex
ican war are interesting to compare with the modern methods used in the late war. The celebration at Mill-
ville, Illinois of the fall of VIcksburg is convincingly shown. Mr. Malgne has built his story around the tremendous sacrifice made for his country by Milt Shanks the role played strikingly by Lionel Barrymore. MURRETTE. As its special feature attraction the Murrette Theatre will show "The Willow Tree," with Viola Dana as the star, for a run of three days, beginning today. "The willow Tree" is laid in Japan, and tells a weird, fantastic story of an image that came to life In the form of a beautiful maiden. The play is surcharged with delicate sentiment, delicious comedy and tender pathos, and it affords Viola Dana one of the best vehicles on the screen that t. is dainty and talented little actress has thus far had. The action of the play transpires for the mest part In far-off Japan, where Hamilton, the young Englishman, goes after he has been jilted by his fiancee. Thereafter it concerns an ancient legend regarding the wooden image of a beautiful girl and her coming to life after she has been bought and taken home by the young Englishman. It is a sweet and appealing love story. MURRAY. Another forceful William Fox picture. "The Hell Ship," opened today at the Murray theatre and will be featured there for three days. Judging from its enthusiastic reception, it
promises to be a pulling attraction for Manager Holland, and it proves also the popularity of the star, the beautiful Madlaine Traverse, whose portray
al of the character of Paula the sea woman was Intensely dramatic. While the action of the story Is Intense, taking place entirely on shipboard in the Pacific ocean and In San Francisco Bay, the sea scenes are most beautiful and wonderfully photographed; the final scenes on a life raft in midocean revealing the wonders of motion picture possibilities. On the whole, this photoplay is one of Madlaine Traverse's best.
