Opinions seem to vary greatly as to the movement ot cigar leaf In Preble county, but that some 1918 crops have been sold lately Is a certainty, and that even In 1919 leaf is moving in a small way is also a fact. W. B. Eddlns, tobacco buyer at Eldorado, said: "We shipped a car of old crop leaf of 30,000 pounds a few days ago, in which were five crops. The range in price was from 10c to 22c, the bulk bringing 20c to 22c. We have six or eight crops bought now, also mostly at 20c to 22c, which are to come in, and we shipped a car ot trash the other day which cost us 5c per pound. We ship trash on Tuesdays and Fridays and this has sold as low as 3c per pound but is worth 5c at present market levels." 16 Cents for 1919 Leaf. Mr. Eddins said that he had contracted for eight crops of 1919 leaf at around 16c per pound, to be brought in as soon as ready for market. He anticipates a better price for tobacco later and is of the opinion that the tobacco acreage will not be materially cut this spring, generally speaking, and perhaps will be somewhat increased. Tobacco planters do not all hold to this view; many say they will cut out tobacco this year; also that the most of the growers are still holding all 1918 leaf.

According to F. O. Underhill, of Greensfork, who until recently bred registered Duroc Jersey hogs, and who still feeds for market in a smaller way, we shall have a much lighter crop in Indiana this year. He says, however, that he has 40 sows ready to farrow in April and May and that he shall continue feeding, but he is not likely to feed as many hundred head as In other years. sows and gilts have been marketed this year than last, around here at any rate. Mr. Heacock fed 800 hogs last year, which is quite a bunch to fatten in view of the cost of feeds, compared with price of hogs in recent months.

Regardless of market on hogs and cattle, he regards general farm outlook as satisfactory.

Karl L. Hanson Highway Chief for Wayne District Karl L. Hanson has Just been made

superintendent of the eastern division

of highways, under the state highway commission. His appointment came from A. H. Hinkle, state highways engineer. Under it he will be in practically absolute charge of about 125 miles of state road, including parts of

the Dixie and National roads.

His territory lies in Fayette, Franklin, Union, Wayne and parts of Henry and Randolph counties.

175 CASES OF SLEEPING SICKNESS IN NEW YORK NEW YORK, March 9. A total of 175 cases of sleeping sickness has been reported in New York since January 1, health commissioner Cppeland announced today. Forty of the cases were fatal. The disease is apparently an aftermath of the influenza epidemic, the commissioner said.
