IMMIGRANTS SHOULD BE SIFTED, COUNTRY MUST WORK-DYER

True Americanization, revision of the state citizenship laws and increased production were advocated by John -N. Dyer, of Vlncennes, first vlco president of the International Association of Roatry clubs, at tho banquet given at the Y. M. C. A. Monday night by the local Rotary club. Several muslci al numbers by Harry Frankel and

: Mrs. Cortez preceded the address. George Tarkelson led the Rotarians , and guests in a number of songs. The biggest need of the he ur Is Americanization, said Dyer, in opening his address. The Bpeaker said few of tho people of the nation realised the need of Americanization, and that little had been done to meet the problems raised by exponents of class hatred, discontent, sedition and revolution. "Wo have deported a few of the most virtulent, but we haven't done much more than scratch the surface of the vital issue" he said. Must Screen Immigrants. "One thing that must be done In Indiana and that as soon as possible, la to revise our citizenship laws," contSnued Dyer. "Tho second constitution of the state, in 1858 (when the country was trying to attract immigration), we made citizenship easy, so t'psy that a foreigner after six months of residence and declaring an intention to become a citizen, could vote. "The law should be changed as soon as possible, so as to make citizenship not a prodigal gift to any newcomer, but something worth the working for and winning, a prize of high value. The only real cure for the high cost of living is increased .production, said Dyer. If the present tendency to reduce the hours of labor and increase the salaries of the workers continues, there is no doubt that serious consequences will ensue, said the spoaker. As long as politicians worked for their interests alone Dyer c-aid he could see no hopeful outcomo of the present conditions of unrest. The peace treaty should be passed with the needful reservations to protect tho security of tho United States, as the one logical outcome of the war, be said. The farmers are hit by the existing conditions, he said. "Every chance or profit for the farmer has been cut off. and many of them aro ruined. Wheat grown in Indiana was an absolute loss" said Dyer. The community plan of service, as r.dopted at Vlncennes, is one of the Mest means of combatting bad condtijjttons, said Dyer. In conclusion he jgave a brief outlirio of the work of "V Community club, which was formed ns a result of consolidation of a numtiber of small clubs and organizations. The Rotarians and their guests retired to the art gallery, following the .speech, for entertainment.

rule extremists, labor fanatics and native and foreign Bolsheviki, who were financed by Germany during the war. On several occasions it was found, necessary to send the ruthless Weyler there to restore order with an iron hand. He never failed. j General Weyler was born in Spain more than 90 years ago and has been connected with the Spanish army for nearly 70 years. The atrocities he committed In Cuba did more than anything else to stir this country to intervention in 189S.

X VIVIAN. The charming name of Vivian is almost the equivalent of the adjective Jvivacious'. It means lively, having .ieen derived from the Latin vita signifying life, and was used by the ;-Itoman Christians to express their hopes of eternity. The first feminine name formed from "kVita is Vivla, a name made famous by -Vivla Perpetua, the noble young maJ.tron of Carthage, whose martyrdom is Tone of the most touching histories of ""the early Church. Her many votaresses gave vo?ue to her name. ZZ In later Roman days Viviana came ,ito be popular through a Christian maiden of that name who was put to 71eath by a Roman governor on the -Charge that she had destroyed the right of one of his eyes by magic. .--Much later a church was erected over lier remains. Her fame and name lingered, and appears prominently "SiKaln in "Morte d'Arthur" when Ct'ivianna is the enchantress of King Arthur's court. v Scotland took over the nam of ,3'ivian, applying it as both a masculine ;jpnd feminine name. France adopted 4he masculine form as Vivien and 'Straightway formed the now popular .-iemlnine Vlvienne. England has always favored Vivian and America received and popularized the name under tnat spelling. Viviana is the favored Torm in Spain and Italy, the latter still Employing the early Roman Vivia. Vivian's talismanic gem Is the llfeJjdvng ruby. It's inextinguishable flame promises her dauntless courage, bodily l.ralth and strength, and dispels evil Spirits. To dream of it signifies unr.oxpected guests. Friday Is her lucky 'riay and 3 her lucky number. The JHy, signifying purity, is her flower.

Miss Mabel S. Deschanes, a popular and attractive young woman residing at No. 7 Bartlett Street, Lewiston, Me., is now an ardent champion of Tanlac, since she began using the medicine a few weeks ago. "I prize Tanlac above every other medicine, even that which was prescribed for me," said Miss Deschanes In relating her experience recently. "I dislike publicity, but there are so many others who, no doubt, suffer as I did, I feel that I ought to tell them about It. "I had been a great sufferer from indigestion and had been under the doctor's care for six months without relief. At the time I began taking Tanlac I was on a very rigid diet and at times could not retain food of any kind Even cold water would cause extreme nausea. I suffered from loss of appetite, severe cramping pains after eating and extreme nervousness. Finally my condition got so bad I simply had to give up and go to bed until I got relief. I was unable to go down town to do my shopping and, although I had been under treatment for six months, there seemed to bo no relief for me. Honestly, I don't believe I would be alive now It I hadn't gotten Tanlac, for I was suffering terribly and getting w.orse all the time. "Finally my sister persuaded me to try Tanlac. I improved from the very first and one bottle did me more good than the six months' treatment. Why, I actually gained four pounds in weight while taking four bottles and I feel just like a different person and am eating just anything I want; in fact, everything seems to agree with me perfectly. I am now able to do my shopping without becoming fatigued in the least and am no longer nervous like I was. "Tanlac is simply wonderful, and I can not praise it too highly." Tanlac is sold In Richmond by Quigley's drug stores and by the leading druggists in every town Advertise (nent.
