RICHMOND PRIMED FOR TOURNEY; SLIM ARE THE CHANGES

Final advice and "inside stufr for the tournament at Newcastle were given out by Coach Fries to the R. H. S. basketballVrs in the coliseum Tues, ay afternoon. Fries tried to impress upon the J ll - t It L1J I

oquau mat passing ana noi utiuowuk, is the modern method of basketball. He also spent considerable time on basket shooting. Although Price at floor guard and Martin at back guard worked well in the Muncie game, Fries has shifted Price to back guard. He will probably start the tournament with Harkins and Monger, forwards; Reed at center and Wilson and Price guards. Livingstone, Motley and Brown will be takCXI &S SUDS Winner, Winner, Who's Winner? The sport of picking the tourney winner continues at a merry pace, but up to date no one has picked Richmond. Fountain City has been mentioned, and Whitewater, by virtue of the defeat handed Cambridge City in the coliseum last week, has also stepped into the limelight. Hagerstown, however, is doped to last at least two games. The first battle will be with Mooreland and Hagerstown has twice walloped that team. Cambridge City is expected to win from Economy and the winner of the two games will get together Saturday morning. Should Hagerstown win, its third game will probably be against Spiceland. Should Hagerstown take the measure of Spiceland, they will last to the finals. Locals Must Win Five. Should Richmond take the measure of Newcastle, Saturday morning, it will probably meet Fountain City in the semi-final3. The winner of this game will take on the winner of the Hagorstown-Spiceland game in the finals Saturday night. Thus Richmond woudl have to play five games to win the tourney.

BASEBALL FANS! Every Baseball Booster in the city Is urged to attend the meeting to be held this evening at 7:30 o'clock- in the Commercial Club rooms. Plans for League Baseball in Richmond will be made at this meeting. Your presence is essential.

Wabash Upsets Dope by Walloping Depauw, 36-26 ORAWFORDSV1LL.E, Ind., March 2. Wabash threw a surprise in s'ate basketball circles when it triumphed over the DePauw machine by a tenpoint margin, winning 36 to 26, In a game played here Tuesday night. It was the second contest between the schools and the reversal of the score sheet over the first game completely surprised fans and threw Wabash rooters into a pandemonium of enthusiasm . DePauw displayed its former speed and carried the ball down the floor in veritable lightning-like form, but the Tigers could not get through the wonderful back guarding of Grater. Grater displayed one of the best games seen on the local floor this season at the back guard station, smothering play after play of the Tiger five. Adam and Kashner, hitting the basket from all angles of the floor, were responsible for the Wabash points These two stars hit the loop with their long and side, shots with consistant regularity, Adam scoring six field goals and Kashner five field markers and eight of 10 free throws.

Bowling Notes

, . i The Kaysee Number Twos rolled the most consistently "rotten" games of any City league bowling team this season, when they dropped three to Wilson Cleaners on Twigg's alleys Tuesday night. Andy Maag "the boy wonder," who has been amazing the

"old timers" by recent high class performances, again amazed them when he rolled for the grand average of 136. Broderick was also in good form, averaging 124. The second clash of the evening between Feltman's Tramps and Hill's Laddies, proved more interesting. Aided by thetr 91-pin difference in handicap, the Laddies captured two games. At that they would probably have been blanked if the Tramps were in usual form. High score for the evening was annexed for the first time this year by Father Ryan, of the Laddies, with 219. Erk, of the Tramps, eloped with 195. He also grabbed second score honors with 202, while Todd took second average with 191. The scores: Hills' Laddies, Handicap 185. Player 1st. 2nd. 3rd. TotLAvr. EARLHAM HOPES. TO DO WABASH'S STUNT OF BEATING DEPAUW

Encouraged by the unexpected triumph of Wabash over Depauw, Tuesday night, Coach Mowe's Bquad of leather tossers will go through what will probably be the last practice of. the season, in the coliseum Wednesday night. Until Wednesday, Mowe was only hopeful of holding the Tigers close. Mowe now feels, however, that Earlham can accomplish the stunt pulled by Wabash. Much time has been spent by the Quaker squad during the week in long shots. In the Butler game Goer, Lewler and Hall tossed several long ones in. Through the ability of Hunt and Kashmer to make long shots, Wabash early gained the jump on DePauw, Tuesday night. Carey to Go Along Although Carey will not get to play more than five minutes at the most, he will be taken along. His absence from the regular lineup will interfere with the Quaker attack, but the lineup that trimmed Butler has been practicing together this week, and has developed plays 4hat rival those of the old five. Hall Is tall enough to get the jump on the average center and Goar more than holds his own at forward. However, Mowe may send Hinshaw into the game in place of Pitts. Franklin has been claiming first place in the I. C. A. L. and Wednesday night's game against Butler will throw light upon comparative strength of the Thurberites and the Mowe Clan. Should Butler hold Franklin to a smaller score than she held Earlham, I. C. A. L. dopesters will probably place Franklin below Earlham.

CENTERVILLE LOSES TO NEW PARIS, 37 TO 25 Centerville high school closed its baseball season by taking a 37 to 25 trimming from New Paris high, at Centerville, Tuesday night. The game was hard fought. The bulkier Ohio five forged ahead in tit final half and successfully withstood all Centerville efforts. Fisher, Neff, and Kent starred for Centerville and Smith, Kessler and Shaffer annexed the New Paris points.

As a Woman Thinketh

BY HELEN ROWLAND

(Copyright, 1920, by The Wheeler Syndlcavt. Ii )

HOW SHALL A GIRL PROPOSE? The question is no longer, "Shall a woman propose?" but "HOW shall a woman propose?" The women of England have announced from the housetops that it is not only proper, butx necessary, in

Lthese days of shy bachelors and brave

bachelor-girls, that a girl shall ask a man to marry her. Very well, then Pass the hemlock! But HOW shall she do it? Shall she say: "Harold, darling, will you make me the happiest woman in the world? "Will you let these little hands lift the burdens of life from your fair young shoulders and - scatter your pathway with roses? "Will you let me support you in the style to which you have never been accustomed, and provide you with

that luxurious background which your lovely and exotic personality demands? "Will you let me buy you monogrammed cigarettes and all-silk hose and a racing car, and pay your club dues and your poker debts? "Will you give me the right to protect you from wild women and designing flappers, and unscrupulous chorus girls? "Will you give me the right to pull the hair of any woman who dares to stare at you or tries to lure you to wicked pink" teas? "Say yes, dear heart, and I promise you shall never have to life your languid hand not even to hook my "backess" evening gowns!" Ridicuous? Not at all! When you invite a man to dine with you, you furnish the dinner, don't you? When you invite him to a dance, you furnish the lights and the music and the flowers and the ball-room. Then, when you invite him to marry you, why shouldn't you furnish the

What you need is a home and a housekeeper somebody to take care of you. Let me be your cook-valet-and-femme da chambre. I will take the job in exchange for my board, clothes, and pin-money. No washing, and Thursdays and Saturdays off!" Or, just by chance, you may be one of those advanced, "I-woulnd't-touch-a-man's-money" young persons, who believe in the soul-marriage and the "fifty-fifty" economic and domestic arrangement. But in that case, what would you have to offer him?

How would you "plead your cause"? t

.Because, when you make an offer of marriage, yon '"iply MUST have something to OFFER. And a kiss hns i.or ypt bon recognized as a medium of exchange: Dear, dear! It looks as though we should have to go right on blindfolding them, and hypnotizing them, and backing them into matrimony and making them think it was all their own idea, doesn't it?
