The Theatres

WASHINGTON In "The Isle of Conquest," Select's special attraction which is showing at the Washington theatre today and tomorrow, Norma Talmadge has one of the strongest roletf of her career. The story tells of Ethel Harmon, who Is unhappily wedded to a man whom she despises. Shipwrecked she is cast upon a deserted Island with a single male companion formerly a Etoker,on her husband's yacht and while there learns true love and happiness. Their vicissitudes, both during their stay on the island and after they have been rescued, and the way that happiness ultimately comes to them makes a fast moving story, In Unresting and absorbing, r MURRAY A comprehensive, psychological analysis is drawn in "Flames of the Flesh," which opened at the Murray Theatre yesterday. Gladys Brockwell, known as the "girl of a thousand expressions", plays the leading role. Only a girl of fine discrimination and good brain could handle this difficult part as It should be portrayed. - The play Is vividly dramatic; it is filled with tense situations and shows through action the evolutions of a mind distorted by hatred and the evil purpose of revenge for a great wrong, but regenerated and purified by the power of love. MURRETTE The successful run of "The Cyclone" comes to a close today at the Murrette Theatre. The legion of admirers of Tom Mix are advised that this is their last opportunity to see his prowess In the strongest characterization be thus far has produced. The action has a powerful setting of northwestern pioneer life. In which all the contending instincts of untamed nature find artistic expression. Tom Mix plays the part of a dauntless Sergeant in the Canadian Northwest Mounted Police, goes through a series of spectacular adventures and untimately triumphs. The feminine lead is played with great charm by Coleen Moore. RICHMOND r Red-blooded action, thrills and mystery are the elements descriptive of George Walsh's latest vehicle in advance reports of "Putting One Over," the William Fox photoplay which is to open at the Richmond Theatre next jyednesday. S( "A train wreck results in the death ' of the heir to a big estate, and crooks fix upon George Walsh, rendered unconscious In the wreck, as a means toward acquiring complete possession of the estate: for George closely re-

The dances selected by the Baroness Norka Rouskaya for her forthcoming appearance in Richmond, with the Columbia Saxapbone Sextette and Harry Yerkes Novely Orchestra on March 18, at the Coliseum, are the most unique and,. interesting,. ones in her very extensive dance repertoire. Her first appearance on the program is in a charming little French gavotte. The Baroness sings a brilliant French song and follows it with a delightful dance. Her costume change is a quick

one and she then does the "Dying i Swan," a difficult toe dance, made

famous by Pavlowa. The last number in this first classical group is "Anitra's Dance," from Grieg's "Peer Gvnt" suite, in a costume originated

by a Norwegian artist. In the sec-j ond half of the program Mile. Rous

kaya does her violin solo. For this appearance Bhe wears a modern ball gown designed by Lucille. The closing group is composed of three modern dances, the first one in Portuguese

and at times furious.
