ELIPHALET GRUMBLE TELLS OF HIS MANY "GREEVUMCES" IN LETTER TO THE PRESS

Mr. Editor: I received your queestlonair last Thursday, but' hav been to tarnation blzy to answer It any sooner. Unkle Josh and Aunt Mlrandy came over from loway In there Packard, an we wanted to visit around a little with them.: (Unkle Josh says their ain't but 1 automobeel to ever 3 Men in loway). Then ive been gettin a Selfstarter put on my flivver, and I had to take nancy to the Dressmakers twice and then i had to load a car a hogs to send to market, so now

I'll try to answer your questionair an tell about the Farmers greevlnces. No, the chance for big crops this year Is purty slim. We hain't a goin to plant no more crops than we can without to much expense and 1 don't think we'll raze more'n 10 per cent more than we did last year. Its no use. We have to sell our Stuff for jist whatever the other feller offers for It, after we go an raise it. His Biggest "Grievance." Now, this, mr. Editur, is the biggest greevunce of the farmer. Of all our

greevunces, an the lord knows we 'have a lot of em, I think this Is the biggest greevunce the Farmer has to sell for whatever the other feller will give, an when he bys anything he has to pay Just whatever the other feller n6ks. Now its different with every body else. They can charge list whatever they please when They sell, an when they by they jist hike around and by where its cheapest. Now jist look at the editur of this here papur, for instance. Don't he charj just whatever he pleases for his napur? An when we advertize our Farm sails, doan he charje Just as much as he darn pleases? but when we sell him Butter and Eggs, everyone knows we have to take Just whatever he offers us. ' Sometimes i git clean discouraged, an hav a notion to have a Rail an rent my farm an go to town like some of my Naburs, only 1 wouldnt work at what they do. Insted of loafen along Mane street, Ive a Notion to start a Grosury stor, or a Feed store, 1 don't lino whirh yit, but i think it '11 be a grosury Store. I see a chance to make a awful lot a money there. He Has a Scheme. I will fix to git a big Trade with Farmers, and when I by there butter ' and esgs and Taters I'll nut the price way down low. They will hav to take my price, for they always do, theirs np way a getten around it, an when 1 tell theta shugar, an coffee and slch like. I'll put fhe price a waj up yonder, an make a big profit, nur they cant help It neithur. I've aways heered It said that the. farmer has to pay whatever the other feller asks. t. Bill ' Jones says, hea my naybur. he says Supply and Demand .makes the

price of things. What Nonsense!

Don't everybody whats got sense enuf ot slop a Sow know that a price has to be said or writ by somebody, and whoever says it or writes It, don't

they make the price? Supply an Demand! a thing u cant see nor hear nor cant talk. It a setten the price. Oosh! That all comes from his queer ways. Hes bin off to college or University, or some sich place, and has his House all kluttered up with books an papers and slch trash and he reads nearly every blamed minute he aint a worken. He gits all them queer Idees out o them Books, every body thinks so. He Is Puzzled. Theres only 1 thing that puzzles me, an make me slow to have a Sail an go to town an have a grocury or some thing, an thats why dont all these grocurys and other town fellers grow rich, bein as their differunt from Farmers and can charge what they

I please an by at their own price? Ive

renected on tnat a neep, an ive Konkluded its there luzurius ways o liven. I dont know ov but one thing that'll git 1 rich quicker than bein a Groceury or something in town, an that is being a Agitator, or Organizer, The way u do that, you get jined up to some organizahun thats already been made by some body else, an then you begin to tell the peepul about there greevunces. You tell em again and again, an you make big greevunces

out a little greevunces, an you jist in-

I vent a few extra greevunces for good

measure and alter awhile, you git the peepul all het up an discontented and made.

Then you being to tell em as how

they'll hav to stand up for there

Rights an fite for Liberty like george

Washington did at vally forge and all

that sort a thing. Then they'll think your It and the only one that can save

em, bein as you were the first per

son to tell era about the greevunces

they didn t know they had. He Sees His Salary.

Then theyll give you a salary, an you'll begin to cash in. A Hole lot o fellers are doin well at the bizness.

Sam Gompers gits $10,000 a year jist for agitation on ralsen prices. I don't

mean he has any other bizness than just agitation. He justs agitates an

prices raze theirselves. Thats the way

of it. If I can jist be successful in agitation an git the Peepul het up an discontented and mad an git em to striken an boycotten an tighten, you bet your boots prices '11 go up. I

don't know who sets em up, but some

body does, of course.

As 1 sed before, theres a Hole lot a

fellers in this agitatun bizness, an the

fields putry well worked over, an 1

never seen a good place for me to bat

in on the same. But this here new or-

ganizashun of Farmers Is new dirt, scarcely been scratched as yit an ire a notion to try to sit a seat In the

tfront row on the ground floor, while

the gittens good. He Will Attend Meeting. This farmers Federashun has a meetin In our township (beanblossom

twp.) wensday night, an Mr. Editur, If

you want me to, I'll report their dolns to put in your Papur. I seen Bill Jones

over at the P. vX last evenln, an i asked him what their up to next wens-

day Nite, an he sed it was a bizness meetin mostly, an that they was a goin to -see about hlren a county agent. I asked him how he thought 1 agent could set higher prices for farmers when them town fellers had that Job. He Bed as how that werent the object of a county agent at tall. A agent, saze, is a man who plans institoots an pig and corn contests and sich to interest the boys and girls in keep them on the farm an to help make the farm peepul wiser and happyer an more contented. When he said that last word, contented, 1 Jist flew all to flmders and told him to his face, county agent Hell! I'd not vote for no Co. agent.. All the other farmers had gone home cept me an Bill, but about 12 or 15 fellers what are nearly always around the stoor, they heered me, an they all grinned an looked pleased an showed they wuz on my side, an Bill he Jist looked bored and turned around and got in hlz flivver an started for home. He Gets So Mad! I was so darn mad I thought Id never go to there dang fandango, but when I met Jack Stivers, an he said as how hogs was a goin down and tankage was a goin up an something ud hav to be done, an I'd betteircome along Wensday and hear what was said, an as how they're goin to have

some coffee nd hot wlnnes, 1 sed id be their. , An now, mr. Editur, t want you to excuse the shortness of this here artikul. I thinks its a awful good thing for you to give us Farmers a chance to tell our greevunces. I wish youd jist use your Hole papur for publlshen nothen but greevunces all except 1 Paig kept for advertlsen Sails where farmers are goin to Town. Yours for Justus and Redress of Greevunces, ELIPHALET GRUMBLE. Punkln Center, Bean Blossom Twp.
