Heart and Beauty Problems By Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson
Dear Mrs. Thompson: I am a young married woman. My mother and my husband do not get along well together and she tells things on both of us that are not true. As she cannot get plong with her neighbors, we do not think it is our fault. When I go to see my family mother sits and bites her finger nails and will not say a pleasant word to me. She keeps my sister in the room with her all the time. I do not know what , that la for unless she Is afraid sister will tell me something she has said about me. She tells my sister things that I have said about her, which are not true, for I think too much of sister to talk about her. She will not let the children or my father come to see us and tells them that if they do come , they will have to leave home. Father knows she is to blame for all, as she is mean to him. He does
not dare to say his life is his own. I get so homesick to see the children at times that I do not know what to tio. but I hate to go home when mother treats me so. What would you advise me to do? My husband is as good to me as he can be and most mothers would think such a son-in-law great. Perhaps you think a mother could rot treat her own daughter this way,

but nevertheless it is all true and I will be glad if you can help me. I have no children to take, the worry off my mind. I worry all the time.
A DAUGHTER. Your mother cannot be in a normal mental condition and act the way she does. Extreme nervousness or extreme selfishness seem to be the cause of her trouble. Selfishness when induged too long becomes a sort of insanity. It seems to me that the whole family should regard her as irresponsible, but at the same time not let her know. Your father should act independently
and not fear her threat to put him out of the home. The children should do as their father says and not have their home life ruined by an unreasonable mother. Surely much can be done without mentioning it to your mother.
In most cases I believe deceitfulness a great evil, but here it is justifiable. Try to be as charitable toward your mother as you can be. Go home to see the children if your visits bring them pleasure. Your father and the children need you all the more, since your mother makes them so unhappy. Worry does not help in the least. Get penty of sleep and fresh air so that you will be in normal condition to face your problem.

"Is this Chelsea 7767? Mrs. Hast there? Oh, hello, Athene, dear, this is Ann Salesbery. Listen, Ath; I'm In a big quandary. It's business; and you know how much I know about business! "Jim was asked to report on some property on Silversand Lake. The man that owns it has started an amusement park and wants Jim's company to buy him out. Jim reported that the thing looked splendid. But old man Oaks wouldn't take the risk. Now the owner has put it up to Jim made him a wonderful offerwants to go shares. "It will take all Jim's savings and he will have to go out to the property, live in a shack with a bunch of engineers and workmen for two or three months. He thinks it's a sure go and will make a fortune. He puts it all up to me, Athena to me!" "Fine and dandy!" came Athena's voice over the wire. "I always told you Jim had the makings of a business man. If he had as much sense about other things as about " "But, Athena! You don't mean you think he ought to take such a chance? Wbat will become of me all alone here: or I'll have to go out to mother's or " "Oh. Idlesticks!" Exploded my friend t, vigorously that it nearly shattered my ear drum as I pressed the receiver against it. "There you go thinking of trifles and losing sight of the big chance! Six months ego. Carrots, you were howling because Jim never took you into his confidence about business deals. Now you yowl because he trusts you too much.
