LAST BASKETBALL ' CLUMP OF GAME IS
PLAYED THIS WEEK
"Taps" for the basketball season in Indiana are about to sound, and state , colleges and universities are lined up for the last general engagement, 11
games in five days
DePauw and Notre Dame will fight
it- out for state runner-up, honors at
Greencastle Tuesday night. DePauw
v won an overtime game from the Irish two weeks ago. Wabash will take on the Michigan Aggies at Crawfordsville,
Tuesday night. Wednesday night Indiana and Purdue will play at Lafayette the last engagement for state honors. Purdue has the edge. Notre Dame and Wabash will play Wednesday night. Both team3 will be slightly tired as results of strenous games Tuesday night, but Notre Dame is conceded the better chance. The Rose Poly-Indiana Dental scrap at Terre Haute will complete Wednesday's basketball program. Richmond fans favor the Dentals. The St. Joseph-Vaparaiso scrap at Valparaiso, is the only game listed for Thursday night. Depauw Versus Franklin. Friday's scrap between DePauw and Franklin at Franklin, Friday night, will definitely settle Franklin's claim for high state honors. Frankin is making claims on first place. The Baptists have not met Earlham or Wabash, however. By reason of its 22 to 11 defeat of Ohio State, Indiana is favored in the second engagement of these teams at Bloomington, Saturday night. Lee Magee. Lee Magee has had one of the most varied careers in big league baseball, and if his business career, which he plans to take up now that he has been released by the Cubs, proves as checkered as his diamond life, he is in for some very interesting times. Magee is 31 years old and has been in baseball, minor and major league, for some 14 years. He broke into the game according to the old record book with the Meridian Cotton States league club in 1906. The eeaEon of 1908 found him with Waterloo in the Central association, and at the close of that season the secffftd baseman was drafted by Seattle. In March, 1909, he was sold to tho Cardinals for less than $1,000, and sent to Louisville under option, being recalled the following fall. He was a fair ball player with the Cards when the Federal league bobbed up and Lee was grabbed off by
V:a. by virtue of two-defeats adminis-1 the army of scouts. With the Brook-
tr rpd Notre Dame and an even break j lyn Feds he became a star. He was with Indiana, is picked to have little I one of the men that the scribes pointdiff'culty at Valparaiso. Little is j ed to when comparing the outlaw orknown of the strength of the Lake j ganization to the two major leagues
EARLHAM CLASHES WITH BUTLER FIVE
The Earlham basketball team will play Butler at Indianapolis, Friday night, said Coach Mowe, Tuesday. Butler's offer of a game arrived Monday night and Mowe wired acceptance.
This means that local fans will not
get to witness the Quaker basket ma
chine in action any more this season, as but two games remain upon the RChedule. Butler Friday night and
DePauw at Greencastle next Thursday.
Efforts to obtain further games may
be made, however.
At roll call in the coliseum Monday
afternoon, Herb Carey and Bob John
son were missing. The lanky center is confined to the Earlham hospital with
a slight attack of tonsilitis and John
son is laid up with a wrenched knee. Both are expected to be in shage for I'riday's game. Hall May Play Center. In case complications cause Carey to be absent Friday, Coach Mowe is considering putting Hall at center and Goar at forward, or else giving Edwards, sub-center, an opportunity. Mowe is fortunate to have Hall on the squad. He has the weight and height to play any position. Further practice will be held in the coliseum Wednesday afternoon, as the mentor has decided to designate Tuesday as a day of rest. An overwhelming victory for Earlham, Friday, will strengthen Quaker claims upon second place in the I. C. A. L. race. Butler recently forced State Normal into an overtime session before accepting tho count. State Normal has twice taken the measure of Rose Poly.

Bowling Notes
For the first time this season, the Empire bowling five of the A. S. M. league, received three jolts in one engagement, the Easy Pull five turning the trick on Twigg's alleys Monday night. The league leaders were cripplpd by the fact that Klinger was
in strength and general playing abil
ity. Because of his brilliant work with the Brookfeds he brought $22,500 when the Feds were sold. The Yankees gladly paying that amount for him. They also willingly agreed to pay him a salary of $8,000. He proved a fair ball player which he was before the Jump and that was all. In 1917 he was traded to the Browns for Armando Marsans. He did not fill the bill there either, and in 1918 was sent to Cincinnati in a three-cornered deal, which included Clark of the Reds, and Hendryx of the Yankees. He went good with the
absent. DesDite this, however, the
Kmpirps fought hard, dropping theirf Reds, boosting his batting to Ayithin
first, game by only six pins ,the sec
ond by 12 and the third by 11. Mike Hopssli's Light Draft oombina?op lived up to the claims of the A. S. M. advertising department, by rolling three largor scores than the Kentucky outfit. Shorty Owens's Jumbos continued the evening's habit and walloped the Hoosier five three straight. High score for the evening was totried by Slim Way, with 215 pins in his first attempt. Sample came through with 174 for average honors. Miller was second bfst. however, with 208 high score, and 173 average. Way and Ulrich were third with 172 point averages. Scores are: Empires. Riley Touted Strongly by Referee; Preparations for Big Show Here Completed Final preparations for the hoxing show Thursday night in the coliseum, have been made by Billy Benson, promoter. Jimmy Dalton, who-meets Joe Riley of Cincinnati, in the final bout of the evening, arrived in Richmond Monday and will finish training in company with Yank Druley, at Benson's gym. Both scrappers, in their workouts Monday right, looked fit. Lefty Pretsch, who referees all boxing shows held in Dayton, and who v ill referee Thursday, has written the following letter in regards to Joe Riley: This boy is a comer in the lightweight division. He is tall, rangy and a splendid two-handed boxer, being able to hit from any angle. He is one of those aggressive boys that keeps right after his opponent, never giving his antagonist an opportunity to set himself. He can also take a punch without flinching. The Richmond fans will surely see a worthwhile bout in the Riley-Dalton encounter.
