"Good beef cattle sold at the lowest prices since March, 1918, at Chicago, on Saturday, and the weekly average nt J12.90 was the lowest in a year.
A few prime steers touched $16.25. but the weighty kinds declined sharply on light demand during the week; those from $13 up being from 50c to $1 lower on the week. . Pesirable cheap cattle were more steady. The best cows and heifers actually advanced at Chicago, while the mediums broke 25c to 50c, compared with the tops on Monday. The average price on all cattle going over the scales was, however, but 45 cents heUw that of the previous week.
Compared with five weeks ago. on Saturday, the top on prime Bteers at Chicago last week fell exactly $2. This, be it noted, was on strictly fancy stuff, and the total Bales average on the past week is but $1.10 pgr hundrewr lower, after all the intermediate ups and downs, in a market which has been mighty hard for shippers to guess. Compored with week ending Jan. 17. Chicago hogs last week averaged exactly 50c lower on the week, at $14.30, but we have had better prices within the past five weeks, because the markets have ruled active in the meanwhile. Chicago hogs sold up to $15- on Tuesday, for light butchers, broke 50c and reacted to $14.90 for
a few choice shipments on Saturday,
after a small advance at tne wees end. Tha Indianaoolls Market.

bearish on the hogs and cattle that they haven't been at the expense of
feeding:, it makes a auierence, juu know. Well, Indianapolis has also felt the Lenten pressure, and cattle and hogs have suffered in value. On Saturday. Feb 14, good heavy hogs ranged at from $14.25 to $16. On last Monday, the spread was from $13.75 at the low to $15 at the high or the day, or at the ooening. On Wednesday and
Thursday heavies sold as low asv
$13 50, and on Saturday the range was tiarn tn l4.5(k mighty few selling
at the top, with good mixed mediums , selling at $14.75 for top and fancy lights bringing $from $lo.25 to $15.50, ,
these selling but 25s, in tne main. Delow price on the previous Saturday, and 25c over th last Friday range. The high spots on hogs at the week end were Pittsburg and East Buffalo, ik75 with Indianapolis and Cleve
land showing a $15.50 mark on fancies.
Generally speaking, the last saiuruy tops in the west were 40c to 50c under the previous Saturday. (Future Grain Price Outlook, the fact that the U. S. Grain corporation has but 90 days left in which to act as a buyer, makes the situation one of guesswork and nervousness. As will be noted from some of the interviews we have been printing with nearby elevator men. those who ship in are hesitating to book orders for future delivery. Very few eastern men can buy corn at present markets and ship and get out whole. The effort made at Washington to have the grain corporation; to abanj i faUpd last week, and the
contracts as to wheat will be carried;

grain corporation is trying to get out as quickly as possible, so as to have but little cash wheat on hand when the contract date arrives, which is "good business." unless-the government wishes to speculate on the carry-over into the next harvest. The wheat situation is not promising and much depends spring wheat planting and acreage, which is expected to be very large this year. to make up for expected winter wheat ZZZ?. it the season be favorable.
