NEXT WEEK AT THE

WASHINGTON. Will Rogers, makes his second bow to the cinema world in "Almost a Husband." which opens at the Washington Theatre, commencing next Wednesday. The story Id so unusual and so per

sonal in Us message that It will find its justification in the life of everyone who sees it. Clarence G. Badger, who directed "Almost a Husband." . was highly congratulated upon hia arrival on the coast When he first viewed "Almost a Husband," which is the picturization of the famous novel, "Old Bbenezer," by Opto Read. . WASHINGTON. "The Grim Game," starring Houdini, the most famous handcuff king, Is com. ing to the Washington theatre for three days, beginning tomorrow. According to the story, Houdini In an airplane Is pursuing a murderer, who is trying to escape in another machine. At a height of 3.000 feet Houdini is supposed to glide above the other machine, let himself down Into the cockpit beside the murderer by means of a rope, and throttle him. All went weir with the stunt, the two machines circling one above the other and a third, containing Director Wfllat and the photographer, about a hundred yards away, until Houdini was just about to loose his hold on the rope. A fust of wind lifted the lower plane into the upper one, and their propeller locked. They dropped lik rockets, revolving noee on nose, with HondJnl still dangling on the rope and the two aviators making

iranuo enorts to control their machines. Death seemed certain. But a few hundred feet from the ground, one

of the airmen succeeded In falling into

a glide, and, though the other crashed nose-on into a field, the only Injuries sustained were 6light bruises. WASHINGTON. The theatre going public of Richmond will certainly be offered a treat

at the Washington Theatre for three days beginning tomorrow.

Without a doubt the most interest

ing and educational production that

has ever been seen in Richmond, is the historical picture entitled "The

Log of U-35". It was originally meant for German eyes and not for American,

and it shows once again the hideous

cess of the enemy submarine warfare. The picture was filmed by members of the crew of the U-35, which was

operated under the direction of lieu

tenant Arnauld de la Perlere, who, In spite of his French name, was German. The Intention was to use them to promote German war loans, but a

cecret agent of the British Intelligence Department got hold of them. The pictures have been titled and edited by Trry Ramsaye for the C. B. Price

Company which is responsible for

their production here. They show the

actual torpedoing and sinking of ships.

and have flashes of the five prisoners

taken from thirty ships, and represent the sinking of half a million tons of

shipping. RICHMOND. Romany "Where Love Runs Wild,'

which comes to the Richmond theatre tomorrow, fa a wonderful story of Scottish and gypsy life. Produced in

Scotland it has a magnificent setting

of Scottish scenery in which a most unusual love story is told. To secure

the correct setting and atmosphere for

his picture Director Thornton epent

three months with a gypsy caravan making Romany "Where Love Runs

Wild." He succeeded beyond his wildest expectations In portraying

gypsy life. The wild, nntrammeled life of these nomads Is but vaguely known to the everyday world. In this great feature their picturesque ways form a vivid background for an en

thralling romance between the eon or a wealthy Scottish land-owner and the gypsy queen.

MURRAY. Looks like a sell-out. When the

vaudeville at the Murray theatre!

opens Tuesday, the headline act will

be Hoyt's "Sweet Daddy" company, a miniature musical tabloid with nine

people, comprising a chorus or six good looking young girls and three comedians. This company will appear here all week offering a complete change Thursday when the other two acts will change. Their opening play is a Hibernian travesty called "The Irish Poet," which showa the company

to a decided advantage. Also on me bill for Tuesday and Wednesday only

will be Cordini. "The Wizard of the

Accordeon," and The LaVlne Trio, "Novelty Gymnast in Sensational Feats." Tom Mix will have a rival on the screen these days in Buck Jones, the new Fox star in western roles, who will make his Initial appearance in the five reel thriller. "The Last Straw." The "Sweet Daddy" company will be retained, and will appear in a new play with a change of scenery, costumes, etc., the two new acts to open being Austin and Delaney, two clever young comedians direct from the big-time. In their laughing vehicle, "Syncopated Hotel," and Kate and

Wiley in an offering which they will term "A Harmony of Grace, Strength and Dexetrity. This Is another well known act on the larger circuits, and from all advance reports will form a part of one of the best bills the Murray has presented lately.

A. B. PALMER SALE

CLEANUP IS $4,660

The friends of A. B. Palmer, living 1 miles northwest of Webster, were out in force at his farm sale on Friday, and very fair prices resulted. Mr. Palmer, having bought- a home in Richmond, has rented his farm and the sale was a general clean-up.

Horses seemed to be in demand, a sorrel team of drafters selling for $410 and a gray team for $325. A few Duroc sews brought up to $62 and his cows

sold according to value.

Ten horses and colts were disposed

of. A small bunch of feeders brought

better than weight prices in this hog

ring. Corn sold at $1.70 per bushel

and a lot of hay and fodder sold at good figures.

The sale was cried by Colonel Tom

Connift and Simon Waddle, and H. J.

tianes, or me union National tfanK, made the settlements. The sale netted Mr. Palmer $4,660 and was considered satisfactory. The ladies of Webster served the lunch, for tho benefit of the decoration day services to be held at Webster.

Fault-finders are always poor losers.

THE GRIM

GAME

99

"There is more excitement in one reel of The Grim Game than in any five reels of celluloid we have ever seen unwind." Such is the typical comment of a New York critic on the thrill power of this wonder-picture of screen dare-deviltry.

Throughout the civilized world, Houdini is recognized as the greatest wizard that ever lived. In "The Grim Game an amazing drama of love, mystery and adventure he adds to his marvelous exploits still others that have never before been performed. See the fight in the clouds and the crash of men and airplanes to earth a thrill you'll never forget !
