She Married an A verage Man
BY ZOE BECKLET
INFORMATION FORM REQUIRED BY LAW
"Jlmmie," I asked ns we were having our last break! ast in the little New York flat before leaving for Hammonds Corners, "Why do you still love me after the awtful way I have behaved ?" "Because of the awful way you behave, I guess," laughed Jim. "Because you are womanly enough to be weak ,and brave enough to confess your weakness. Wiry do you still love and want to conie back?" he asked suddenly. ! ' . "Because you are stronger than I," I answered. "Because your firmness showed rae how wrong I was. And you Just withdrew ami stood aside and and could do without me." "I couldn't do without you, Ann!" Jim spoke impulsively for him. "You don't know what went through up there in that dreary country house until your letter came.'' "Tell me. Jim, if I hadn't sent that letter would you ever have " Jim rushed around the table and
closed my lips with a. kiss, not let
ting me finish. "That would be telling!" he grinped. "But since we're crossexamining each other, suppose you tell me why you
changed .your mind about that career
of yours?"
"I haven't changed it. I've only put my ambition in its true place; I
shall aJways believe women includ
ing wives snould be able to do some
sort of pay work. They needn't al
ways do it, but they should prove to themselves they can. Now that I
have proved I can, I want- to set It aside .for. a little time and be just a
woman.
"Can your tastes and character alter.
Ann?"
"No. But one thing caa sort of die
down in you and another rise and demand to be satisfied. You can step
out of one epoch into another. You can get enough of one experience and long for something else. . You can want solitude, for instance. But you get weary of it if you have it alweys, and seek companionship, which does not mean you have altered your ideas as to the necessity of sometimes being alone." "Then you still want to work to write and be famous?"
"Yes, you old Jim-darling, I-do. But j I want something else first. I want ! something else more! I want to bej first a woman and second a writer" i "And you can be both, dear?" ! "Qes. For I shall write simple truth for as I see it and live it. Not the sort of stuff that makes best sellers, but the sort that helps and inspires those who read it. I'd rather be a Galsworthy and reform the English prisons than a Chalmers and make a million dollars." Jim set silent a moment, holding me close, his bead against my arm. "Ann, you're a wonderful woman," he said at last in a low tone. "Some women can do only one thing be wives and mothers. That is the kind I have been used to. You are a new kind of woman to me., But I think I know you now. You are many-sided And you shall have your career. I think I shall be proud when you are launched upon it!" That from Jim! And he meant it, too; I caught a new tone in his voice. I felt almost ashamed like a bad kiddie who has bawled and scratched and kicked and bit and thrown his possessions about, and finaly had his way. "Oh, you dear old Jimmie-boy," I murmured contritely. "We've had our dark hour, but how much we've both learned from it!" l (To be continued.)

Heart and Beauty Problems Br Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson
Dear Mrs. Thompson. We are seeking your advice concerning things wi would like to have explained. (1). What is the proper time for a young man to leave after calling in the evening, if the couple are of mature age? (2) What do you think is the best test of love? (3) Will you explain to us just what a soul kiss is? (4) Can a woman love two men at the
same time? (5) How long should a girl go with a fellow before, letting his. kiss her? Do you think this is absolutely wrong to allow this if it is hot carried to excess? (6) Do you believe in long engagements? (7) Who buys the bridal bouquet, the father of the bride or the bridegroom? NORMA AND ANITA, il) In case you do not go to a theatre or dance between 10:30 and 11 o'clock is the proper time to leave. Ot coursfl if there is a gathering, informal party, dance or such, then a much later hour is permissible. (2) I can think of no real scientific test of love. Time will prove if the love is true, and the many adverse conditions and trying circumstances with which one comos in contact will be a test. (3) I believe you can see a good demonstration of the so-called soul kiss, if you will notice the last kiss in a moving picture,, that is the one that marks the end of the story. (4) No, I hardly think a woman can truly love - two men at once. She may admire one. or be fascinated by one, but she hardly can love two. (5) I can give you no exact, time, but it is considered conventional and proper to not allow a man to kiss you until you are
(engaged. (6) There are two sides to .'the question sometimes it is necesjtar yto wait in order to save money, cr acquire enough to start housekeeping with. But if there is no real reaison for postponing the marriage, I do jnot think long engagements are best. !(7) The bridegroom buys the flowers ,fjr the bride and the bridal party.

Hagerstown was slightly overconfident in Friday night's basketball scrap with the Mooreland high school five, although the former won 31 to 9, the losers fought every minute of play. The score was reasonably close until the last 10 minutes, when Hagerstown began a bombardment of the goal. Both teams were crippled by absence of regular players. (1) Economy. Franklin principles took three first prizes In thi annual Yosemite Economy Run. The Franklin again won this Western classic, defeating cheaper as well as more ex; pensive cars; lighter as well as heavier cars. (2) Road Range. These principles made it possible for the Franklin to set and break the record for distance covered in 24 hours of continuous driving.
It did this four successive times in 1919. until the present mark of 8G5.4 miles was established. (31 Reliability. These principles took Franklins from New York to Boston and back; Indianapolis to Syracuse and beyond; Cincinnati to Cleveland and back; New York to Montreal and back a total of 3,331.4 miles in 98 hours and 50 minutes without a semblance of motor trouble, with no blowouts and only one puncture.
(4) Air Cooling Efficiency. And these principles took the Franklin on a phenomenal low-gear non-stop run from Portland, Maine, to the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire 98.2 miles In all. In the last 9 miles it climbed to an elevation of 6,290 feet. Though running in low gear all the way and without a stop, not the slightest cooling trouble was encountered.
