GROWING III WAYNE; HAS NO MANAGER Chafles A. Bookwalter, former mayor of Indianapolis, and a widely-known figure In Indiana Republican politics, has Indorsed Major General, Leonard . Wood's presidential candidacy In; a telegram from Miami. Fla. Mr. Bookwalter expects to return to Indiana to participate - in the presidential primary campaign, not only In this state, but in any other state where his efforts may , be deemed beneficial to the Wood candidacy. . Mr. Bookwalter has done considerable campaigning and - has been in demand as a speaker in other states as wel las Indiana. - Considerable sentiment for General Wood has developed In Wayne county, close followers of the presidential primary race said Friday. They said he was popular with Republicans and had a greater following than the other candidates. -His petitions are in the hands of many Republicans, but no one has so far been appointed to take charge of his campaign in Wayne county. This is attributed to the fact that his managers did not want to rush action in Indiana . until Governor.. Goodrich had declared his intentions. While no decision has been announced from Washington as to the director of the Harding campaign in Indiana, opinion among the members of Indiana's congressional delegation is veering decidedly toward the Ohio Benator, according to Louis Ludlow, formerly an Indianapolis newspaper man, who has been a Washington correspondent for more than 10 years. Mr. Ludlow, who conducts a bureau serving a large number of newspapers, sent out a letter recently in which he discussed at length the growth of the Harding candidacy. Of the gubernatorial aspirants, W. T. McCray and Ed Toner are most popular in Wayne county. They have their organization work well In hand. Petitions to place the name of Senator James E. Watson on the state preferential primary ballot as a candidate for the Republican nomination for United States senator, are being circulated in Rush county and are being readily signed. It is said that a petition, will be in the hands of sdme : Republican ; in - every precinct of thecounty.. So fair as is known, this is the, first petition-to place a candidate's name on a primary ballot, which has been . circulated in Rush county. . - " - Close friends of Senator Watson in Wayne county say he will circulate his petition only in Rush county, as that is bis home. Five hundred voters will readllly affix their signatures to the petitions in Rush county, his friends , assert. ;; Geologists have discovered that the western shore of Europe at one time extended far beyond its present reaches, but that it sunk so long prior to historic times - that - Atlantis, the fabled sunken city, could not - have been included in the scope of the submerged territory. - - 1 . .

Sunday, February 8 Topic: "A Worth-While Life. Pc. 37:18-40. (Decision Day.) Seme Bible Hints. A worth-while life is one on which God can look with pleasure, (v. 18). We cannot do good unless we depart from evil, for evil will spoil even our good. (v. 27). God stands for justice. He preserves only eternal values. Evil must fall. (v. 29). Selfishness tries to exalt itself; only that life is worth while which God exalts, (v. 34). Suggestive Thoughts. We must have worth-while ideals if life is to yield eternal fruit. Acts flow from thoughts. Life is ours to make, not the pattern, we wish, but the one that God wishes. Hence God must be consulted. . T Settle early in life the things that are worth while and follow them steadily to the end. The Christian life is the only life that is worth while because it produces elements of character that need never be laid aside. The new man which we put on Is the eternal man. The Christcharacter abides. A Few Illustrations. Humphrey Davy's invention of the coal miner's lamp, which has saved thousands of lives, made his life worth while, Judged from the human point of view. Men that benefit others have not lived In vain. Missionaries who spend a lifetime educating backward peoples will have more real achievement to show at the end than many a millionaire. -The best tree is the one that yields the best fruit for the longest time. The best life is the one that yields the best and most enduring character. A person at a forked road must choose which way he will take. Life is full of calls to decision. God meant to make it so, for decisions form character. To Think About. What is your idea of a worth-while life? What are you going to do with your life? How can even commonplace lives be made worth-while? .
I saw around me people who, believing In Christ, derived from their faith, an idea of lite that gave them strength to live and strength to die in peace and Joy. Justin Martyr. To the growing soul the world is ever miraculously renewing itself. Our fellowmen grow always deader to us, always more interesting. And how much more Interesting does God become! J. H. Brlerley. Church Board Urges Women to Stop Smoking WASHINGTON, Feb. 6. Increased use of tobacco among women in 1919 was "appalling." aocording to the, board of temperance, prohibition and morals of the Methodist Episcopal church. In a statement Thursday the board made "an earnest appeal to women to refrain from the use of tobacco in the name of the country's welfare." "No nation can maintain the vigor which has been characteristic of the American people after its women begin the use of cigarettes," the statement said. "The sedentary, life of women tends to an excess in the use of tobacco and produces more serious results than is caused by its use among men. The effects of tobacco upon women is similar to its effects on immature youths."

GOES TO TOWN FOR FIRST TIME IN MANY YEARS
"This Is the first time in years that I have been away from home, and if you hod seen what a dreadful condition I was In five or six years ago, you would be surprised to see me in this store now," said Mrs. M. A. Pitts, of Hanna City, Illinois, in relating her remarkable experience to the Tanlac representative at the Sutliff & Case drug store in Peoria, a few days ago. "At the time I began taking Tanlac,"
explained Mrs. Pitts, "I was so crippled with rheumatism that I couldn't even walk across the house without stopping for the pain to ease up. But
now I am feeling as well as I did
twenty-five years ago, and I want everyone to know that it's all because
of what Tanlac has done for me.
My arms and legs pained me con
tinually, so that there was no ease or
comfort for me day nor night My
knees were so stiff, swollen and sore that when I tried to take a step they
almost gave way. The pain nearly
drove me distracted. I had been suf
fering this way for twenty years and
tried so many different liniments and medicines with no relief that I scarcely had any hopes of ever getting any
better. My appetite was never very
good either, and my stomach was also
in bad condition.
"Well, I never thought there was a medicine in the world that could help my rheumatism. But a person never gets too old to learn, for I had taken Tanlac but a few days when I could
. feel my pains easing up. After tak
ing it for about two weeks, and found
I could walk all over the house with
out feeling a pain, I was the happiest woman you could find. I noticed my elbows were not so stiff and sore, and
I could raise my hands to eat with
out suffering near so much. Then I
felt so encouraged that my husband
sent for several more bottles of Tanlac, and now I am not only rid of the rheumatism, but my appetite is
Just wonderful, and my stomach seems to be in better condition than
it ever was. Before taking Tanlac, I had not slept well in years, but now
I sleep all night long Just like a child Well, it is nothing, less than wonder
ful the way Tanlac has gotten me over the rheumatism. Why my limbs are
as free, from pain as when I was a
girl. I an now able to do all my own housework and, as I said, I feel as well as I did twenty-five years ago.
You can Just ask any of my neighbors out there at Hanna City, for they all know what a bad fix I was in and will tell you how easily I get around now, and enjoy myself again after being housed up for so many years, unable to got off the place, and. I will never get through praising Tanlac." Tanlac is sold In Richmond by Clem Thistlethwaite; in Greensfork by C. D. Corine; in Cambridge City by Mr. Dean House; In Pershing, by Sourbeer & Rodenberg; in Centerville by Centerville Pharmacy; in Dublin by E. JR. Money, and in Milton by W. L. Parkins.
